Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 239: Chapter 229: Spiritual Control

After Qi Heng went upstairs and opened the door, he didn’t see the two little beauties he’d been promised waiting for him. Instead, the room was empty.

A surge of anger rose in his heart, and he flipped open his ID Watch, about to call Hu Zi.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

Just then, a knock came from the door.

”Come in.”

’They’re finally here.’

Qi Heng’s tone was sour. ’How dare they make me wait.’ He decided he would have to torture them thoroughly to feel satisfied.

He was disgusted with having to play Mr. Nice Guy at the base. Only by coming here every so often could he completely unleash his true nature, be himself, and have his fun.

Basically, no woman who entered his room ever walked out.

The better a person is at putting on a facade and suppressing themselves, the more twisted they are inside.

Gu Feng’s two daughters had gone missing recently. To show his loyalty, he’d been busy ”helping” him search for them, leaving him no time to come here.

’Serves Gu Feng right for having such high attribute values. Now that his precious daughters are gone, let’s see what he has to be so smug about.’

In this day and age, everyone knew what became of two helpless little girls who had been missing for several months.

But Gu Feng just wouldn’t give up, insisting on using all of Huaxi City’s resources to find them.

’He’ll probably only be satisfied once he finds their bodies.’

The very thought of it made Qi Heng so happy he could laugh out loud in his sleep.

The door creaked open, and two girls walked in.

”Uncle Qi? Why is it you?”

Gu Yirou cried out in surprise.

”Gu Yirou?”

On the surface, Qi Heng and Gu Feng were the best of friends. Of course he recognized his buddy’s most precious daughter.

Qi Heng froze when he saw her. For a moment, he couldn’t decide whether to maintain his previous demeanor or show his true self.

But soon, he saw the short-haired girl timidly walking toward him.

He quickly realized this was his territory. Gu Yirou was trapped; she couldn’t escape even if she grew wings. He didn’t need to put on an act at all.

’The heavens are truly watching over me.’

The look in Qi Heng’s eyes as he stared at Gu Yirou began to change. He hadn’t noticed before, but his little ”niece” had unconsciously blossomed into a real beauty.

”Rourou, come to your uncle.”

The disgusting words had barely left Qi Heng’s mouth when a rope tightened around his neck, pinning him securely to the wrought-iron headboard he was leaning against.

”What are you doing?! Let me go!”

Qi Heng grabbed the rope around his neck with both hands and struggled relentlessly.

He never expected that the short-haired girl would manage to sneak up on him the moment he let his guard down.

”Shut up. Don’t get your disgusting spit on me.”

Tang Mo tossed another rope onto the bed.

”Tie him up.”

Tang Mo said to the stunned Gu Yirou.

Gu Yirou had already told her that Qi Heng was an agility superpower user, which was why she’d taken him by surprise to subdue him.

Otherwise, if he managed to escape, they would be in deep trouble. After all, they were in the lion’s den.

Right now, only Qi Heng’s head was pinned, but his limbs were still free.

Seeing that he couldn’t break free from the rope, he raised his wrist to activate his ID Watch and call his men downstairs.

But just as he was about to lift his wrist, a club came crashing down.

Tang Mo had given the club to Gu Yirou downstairs, and she had smuggled it in by hiding it behind her back when she opened the door.

Before Qi Heng could react, countless more blows rained down on him.

Even Tang Mo was surprised. The seemingly delicate Gu Yirou showed no mercy at all when she started swinging that club.

Gu Yirou’s Strength wasn’t high, but that couldn’t contain the three months of pent-up rage she was unleashing.

Now that she finally had an outlet, she didn’t stop for a full ten minutes, completely absorbed in venting her fury.

Once she had spent most of her energy, Gu Yirou finally stopped, picked up the rope from the bed, and tied Qi Heng up securely.

”What do we do now?”

Downstairs, Tang Mo had only explained the plan up to this point. Gu Yirou had no idea what would happen next.

”You go sit and rest for a bit.”

Tang Mo had Gu Yirou sit to one side while she herself sat on the edge of the bed.

In truth, ever since she’d encountered that Soul Beast, an idea had been itching in the back of her mind.

Spiritual Control.

’Since that Soul Beast could control other beasts, I should be able to control people, too.’

’Besides, Qi Heng isn’t a Spiritual Ability User, which makes him the perfect specimen for me.’

’Even if I fail and turn him into a drooling idiot, it doesn’t matter. He’s a vicious monster who deserves it anyway.’

’If I can actually succeed in controlling him, everything I need to do next will become so much easier.’

Tang Mo sat down very close to Qi Heng and slowly released her spiritual power, probing toward his sea of consciousness.

Qi Heng was already weakened from the beating. His Spirit Attribute Value was low to begin with, and now that he was bound, he was basically a fish on the chopping block.

Tang Mo used only about a fifth of her spiritual power to completely envelop the pitifully small Spirit Light Ball within Qi Heng’s sea of consciousness.

The light gradually faded from Qi Heng’s eyes as he fell completely under Tang Mo’s control.

The Spiritual Control was a success, but Tang Mo wasn’t satisfied.

After all, the Soul Beast had controlled over forty Advanced Mutant Beasts, yet she had used one-fifth of her spiritual power just to control a single person.

’By that comparison, my spiritual power is so much weaker than the Soul Beast’s.’

But that wasn’t the right way to look at it.

The Soul Beast’s method of Spiritual Control involved directly destroying the mutant beasts’ sea of consciousness, which then required very little spiritual power to maintain control.

With that method, the subject would be left a mindless simpleton once the spiritual power was withdrawn.

Tang Mo, however, was enveloping the sea of consciousness with her spiritual power. This way, the subject would return to normal once she retracted her power, a method that naturally consumed far more energy.

For Tang Mo to succeed so smoothly on her very first attempt at Spiritual Control was, by any measure, the work of a genius.

”In one hour, call Brother Hu. Tell him you’re taking all the children here back to the base, and that you have your own uses for them.”

”Oh, and have him find a girl named Xiao Yi. Say you’ve heard she’s quite beautiful and you want to take her with you.”

Tang Mo added after a moment of thought.

”Understood.”

Qi Heng nodded. After a brief moment where his eyes went dull, he quickly returned to normal, his expression indistinguishable from anyone else’s.

This was precisely why Tang Mo used the envelopment method for her Spiritual Control instead of the destructive one.

The destructive method was too obvious; anyone could easily tell that the subject was merely a puppet.

Envelopment was different. The subject simply accepted the controller’s will while retaining their own habitual thought processes and mannerisms.

It looked far more natural.
