Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 220: Chapter 210: In a Predicament

Qin Ling ordered men to carry the superpower users who had joined the battle but were now unable to stand after the second wave of spiritual attacks to the rear.

The Soul Beast was simultaneously controlling over seventy Advanced Mutant Beasts while also gathering power to launch repeated spiritual attacks.

As a result, the intensity and range of the spiritual attacks weren’t very large. Tang Mo guessed this was likely the limit of the Soul Beast’s spiritual power.

The spiritual attack couldn’t be felt from twenty meters away from the base’s main gate.

Therefore, all the superpower users with weaker attributes and those who were already injured retreated behind the twenty-meter line.

No one left. Everyone knew what the base was facing and what the consequences would be if they lost this fight.

Everyone else in the base had received a message to stay home and not go outside until further notice. The base was now deserted, except for the dense crowd gathered at the main gate.

After the earlier slaughter, over forty Advanced Mutant Beasts remained outside. They had now pushed past the electric fence, bit by bit, and were beginning to ram the base’s main gate.

The power of several dozen Advanced Mutant Beasts was not to be underestimated. No matter how sturdy it was, the base’s main gate wouldn’t be able to hold for long.

Behind the gate, no one dared to even breathe too loudly. They all watched Qin Ling, waiting for him to give the command.

It felt as if they were trapped here with no way out.

Although Li Xian and Wen Jianshu were also superpower users, they normally focused on the base’s administration and daily management.

When it came to actual combat, they didn’t have much experience, so they were feeling uneasy.

Standing in the center of it all, Qin Ling was everyone’s pillar of support.

”Lao San, gather all the Spiritual Ability Users with an attribute value of 500 or more and divide them into two groups.

”I’ll lead one team. You, Lao Si, and Lao Wu will lead the other. The High-level Beast’s spiritual attack isn’t continuous—it comes in waves, about one every five minutes. Each team will go out and fight until a spiritual attack hits, then we’ll pull back and the other team will take our place.”

Qin Ling quickly laid out the plan.

A leader’s greatest strength is observation. He had been watching and realized that while taking a single hit from the spiritual attack would reduce someone’s combat effectiveness, they could still make it back.

After a short rest, they would recover some of their strength.

Furthermore, among those who had just fought outside, although they had all collapsed after taking two waves of spiritual attacks, the physical and mental states of the Spirit Attribute Superpower Users were clearly far better than those of superpower users with other attributes.

They also recovered much faster. That’s why he decided to prioritize using Spiritual Ability Users to deal with the mutant beasts outside the gate.

”Lao Er, you’re in charge here while I’m gone.”

Qin Ling gave his orders, completely ignoring Li Xian and Wen Jianshu, who were standing right beside him.

At a time like this, however, Li Xian and Wen Jianshu didn’t mind being ignored by Qin Ling at all.

After all, even if they were given decision-making authority right now, there was nothing they could do.

”You lead the first team. I’ll take the second.”

Tang Mo cut in.

”Lao San, Lao Si, and Lao Wu aren’t Spirit Attribute Superpower Users. The physical toll of taking that spiritual attack head-on is too great. It’s better to keep them here in the base as reserve forces.”

Tang Mo understood Qin Ling’s plan. He intended to use two Spiritual Ability squads in a battle of attrition, wearing down the forty-odd Advanced Mutant Beasts in waves.

But if a spiritual attack came every five minutes, there was no telling how many rotations it would take for the two squads to deal with those forty-odd mutant beasts.

Spiritual Ability Users recovered quickly even after suffering a spiritual attack.

But Lao San, Lao Si, and Lao Wu wouldn’t be able to withstand that many spiritual attacks.

Tang Mo knew Qin Ling’s attribute value well enough not to worry about him, even though he wasn’t a Spirit Attribute Superpower User.

Besides, Tang Mo had another concern.

After so many rotations, the fighters would inevitably be injured to some degree and become incredibly weak.

It would be hard for Lao Er and the rookies to maintain control inside the base on their own.

If Qin Ling also got injured and something went wrong, Lao Er wouldn’t be able to keep the situation under control.

Qin Ling had naturally considered this point as well, but he saw no other choice.

”I’m a Spirit Attribute Superpower User. My attribute value is over ten thousand. I’ll lead the second squad.”

This was the first time Tang Mo had publicly stated her attribute value.

Before this, her publicly declared superpower had been her spatial attribute.

But how could a spatial attribute superpower user kill mutant beasts alone and without fear?

It was common knowledge that the combat abilities of spatial attribute superpower users were very weak.

But of all the people who had seen Tang Mo fight, who would dare say her combat skills were weak?

Utter nonsense.

Everyone knew in their hearts that her spatial attribute was just a cover, though Tang Mo herself had never addressed it.

This was the first time she had revealed this information about herself.

Qin Ling thought for a moment.

”Alright.”

Momo wasn’t just his treasure; she was his partner.

And rationally speaking, what Tang Mo proposed was the most logical and best solution for the current situation.

The base’s main gate was continuously being battered by the ramming mutant beasts.

They absolutely could not open the gate now. Even the smallest crack would be like a bursting dam—unstoppable.

Qin Ling led the first team over the perimeter wall, climbing up with ropes.

The six- or seven-meter-high wall sealed them off completely from the outside world.

Sure enough, after they dropped down, they fought for only about five minutes before the next spiritual attack arrived.

This time, the group clearly had experience. After all, with the exception of Qin Ling, they were all Spirit Attribute superpower users. The moment the spiritual attack was unleashed, they sprinted for the ropes at the base of the wall and quickly scrambled back over.

Qin Ling brought up the rear, doing his best to cover their retreat and block the mutant beasts nipping at their heels.

He had led them out here. As their captain, he had to do everything in his power to get them all back safely.

Not just anyone can be a good leader. As a captain, Qin Ling possessed a sense of duty and responsibility that many others lacked.

But no matter how high Qin Ling’s attribute value was, he ultimately didn’t have the Spirit Attribute. When it came to spiritual resistance, he was no different from an ordinary Spirit Attribute Superpower User.

So, by the time everyone else had scaled the wall and Qin Ling grabbed the rope, his head had already begun to ache.

He gritted his teeth, grabbed the rope, and started to climb.

The headache grew more and more severe. The Soul Beast seemed to realize there was something special about Qin Ling, and it focused the full force of its spiritual attack on him alone.

Qin Ling was now climbing inch by inch, relying solely on sheer willpower and endurance.

Just then, an elephant-like mutant beast nearly three meters tall swung its trunk, wrapped it around Qin Ling’s rope, and yanked with all its might.

Rope and all, Qin Ling was flung straight to the ground...
