Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 205: Chapter 195: The Last Struggle

”Dad, Dad!”

Seeing Ah Mao’s eyes close, Da Hua’s cries grew more desperate. Ah Li gently stroked Ah Mao’s face, tears rolling down her own.

”Sigh, I really can’t stand to see this stuff.”

Despite Lao Ba’s habit of speaking without thinking and always saying things people didn’t want to hear, he was actually the softest-hearted of them all.

Seeing this scene of a family torn apart, his eyes began to sting, and he silently turned away.

The show here was over, they had gotten the treasure, and it was time for them to leave.

Tang Mo simply stood to the side, watching in silence. She didn’t say a word, her thoughts unreadable.

”Lao Ba, is everyone in the cave dead?”

Tang Mo seemed to have suddenly remembered the savages in the cave.

The battle had ended so quickly that many had only been wounded and incapacitated, not killed.

Lao Ba had been in charge of cleaning up the battlefield. After a quick headcount, he had handed the rest over to the members of the Xing Clan.

”No, there are still a dozen or so alive. Their leader is already dead.”

”Let’s go, Da Hua. Since your dad entrusted the clan’s affairs to you, you should handle the aftermath from now on. After all, this is a matter for your Xing Clan.”

Tang Mo and her group had killed several dozen people. She had also made a point to check that the savage leader and Lea were both dead. Their revenge was more or less complete.

The rest was an internal matter for the Xing Clan. Whether to kill the survivors or let them live was now up to Da Hua, the one in charge.

Da Hua knew in her heart that with her dad down, if she didn’t step up immediately, there would be no one to protect her mother and Xiao Hua.

Despite the immense grief in her heart, she forced herself to wipe away her tears and followed Tang Mo into the cave.

The cave was a river of blood, with human bloodstains everywhere.

The area Tang Mo had entered earlier was deeper inside—the living quarters. Because the fighting hadn’t taken place there, it was much cleaner and devoid of people, living or dead.

Meanwhile, the area of the cave nearest the exit had been divided into two sections by the Xing Clan.

One side was for the bodies of the savages, while the other was for those who were still breathing.

”Burn the dead in an open, damp place later to prevent plague or a wildfire. As for the ones who are still alive... you make the call.”

Tang Mo left the decision to Da Hua.

Among that group was someone Da Hua knew: Abu.

Beside Abu was the girl who had spoken out first, clinging tightly to his side.

”Da Hua, Da Hua, I’m begging you, please let me and Xiao Xiao go. Xiao Xiao didn’t mean what she said about you just now. She’s innocent, don’t take it to heart. She’s just a very simple person with a bit of a sharp tongue, but her heart isn’t bad...”

The roles were now reversed; Da Hua was the one who would decide if they lived or died.

Abu immediately dropped to his knees and begged for mercy. He knew her all too well. ’Da Hua is the most soft-hearted person there is. She could never bear to kill me.’

’Xiao Xiao can’t die either. She’s still so young, and we have such a bright future ahead of us...’

For some reason, Abu was still brimming with confidence. Deep down, he believed that no matter what happened, Da Hua would obey him. Unconditionally.

Xiao Xiao, leaning against Abu, didn’t speak after hearing his plea. She just bit her lip, resentful.

’I’m not about to beg that she-ape for mercy.’

”The nerve of this guy is unbelievable.”

Tang Mo couldn’t help but think to herself. ’Scumbags apparently aren’t exclusive to modern society. A scumbag from a primitive tribe is so awful you can’t even bear to look at him.’

’Just one more look and I’ll want to smash his head in.’

However, Tang Mo didn’t offer Da Hua a single piece of advice. She wanted Da Hua to make the decision herself. She wanted to see what Da Hua would do after everything she had experienced.

Da Hua looked at Abu’s still-handsome face, her heart filled with desolation.

She would never be able to forget the cold, indifferent look on Abu’s face when her family’s lives were in the hands of the savages.

Nor could she forget the way her dad had shielded her, telling her again and again not to be afraid while taking all the blows meant for her.

”Kill them all,” Da Hua said to the nearby Xing Clan guard, closing her eyes.

”Leave no one alive.”

After saying this, Da Hua turned and walked out of the cave.

She had made her decision, but she couldn’t bear to watch what would happen next.

’Attagirl.’

Tang Mo silently praised her and followed Da Hua out of the cave.

Behind them, the Xing Clan guards raised their weapons and slowly approached the remaining prisoners.

”Da Hua! Da Hua, you’re so cruel! Didn’t you say you liked me? Is this how you show it, by watching me die?”

Abu suddenly realized that things weren’t going the way he had imagined.

Everything was veering off the track he had envisioned. Panicked, he began to shout after her, hoping to make her change her mind.

”Abu, I’m scared! I don’t want to die!”

Only then did the girl named Xiao Xiao finally feel true fear, and she burst into loud sobs.

”You ugly freak, get back here! Let us go right now, or you’ll all die a horrible death!”

Fear gave way to hysterical insults.

Da Hua’s steps grew steadier as she walked away. The cacophony of sounds behind her scrubbed away the last vestiges of pain in her heart.

’They’re getting what they deserve. Every one of them will go down and pay for my dad’s life!’

This was how it was in the apocalypse. You always had to be striving, always vigilant.

Otherwise, with one careless slip, the roles of predator and prey would reverse, and you would be the one to die.

”Da Hua, the treasure your Xing Clan has been guarding is a weapon. It’s very heavy—none of you can use it. That’s why your dad hid it.”

Tang Mo was very satisfied with Da Hua’s actions, so she decided to tell her more.

Da Hua nodded. In truth, she wasn’t curious about the treasure at that moment.

She even wished the thing had never existed; that way, her dad wouldn’t be dead.

”Since I’ve taken your clan’s treasure, I should do something in return. I can save your dad.”

As she spoke, Tang Mo walked over to Ah Mao, slowly crouched down, and placed a hand on him.

Ah Mao’s injuries looked terrifying, but none had struck a vital point. The problem was that his wounds were too numerous and too deep; he was unconscious from the shock of massive blood loss.

’I can heal injuries like this.’

’But before I heal him, I need to see if this incident has truly changed Da Hua.’

’If she hadn’t changed at all—if her heart was still soft enough to release Abu and the others, letting a tiger back into the mountains—then I naturally wouldn’t have interfered.’

’In that case, I wouldn’t have saved Ah Mao, either. What would be the point? Sooner or later, he would just get killed by his hopeless daughter anyway.’

But now, Da Hua had passed her test. Therefore, she decided to pay the Xing Clan the price they were owed for the treasured axe.
