Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 222: Chapter 212: Battle Below the Wall

In just a few seconds, Tang Mo had expelled the Soul Beast’s spiritual attack from her sea of consciousness.

”You get up there. Leave the rest to me.”

Retreating to the base of the wall, Tang Mo pushed Qin Ling toward the rope.

”I feel much better now. I’ll stay with you. I can’t leave you down here alone.”

Qin Ling really did feel much better; his head didn’t hurt as much anymore. How could he possibly leave Tang Mo to face this battlefield alone?

”I can handle this, really.”

Tang Mo turned Qin Ling to face her and looked him straight in the eye.

Qin Ling gazed into Tang Mo’s eyes. They were like a pool of deep water—bottomless, yet incredibly resolute.

They made one subconsciously want to believe.

”Alright.”

With mutant beasts right behind them, the battle had to be swift. This was no time for a lover’s gaze.

The instant Qin Ling answered, Tang Mo grabbed the rope and tied it around his waist.

”Hold on tight! Lao San, pull!”

Tang Mo shouted, fending off the surrounding mutant beasts with her Wind Breaker.

The men on the wall had been watching the situation below. As soon as Tang Mo shouted, Lao San and another man, Lao Si, grabbed the rope and leaped off the wall.

The combined weight of the two sturdy men and the pull of gravity instantly hoisted Qin Ling, who was clinging to the rope, upwards.

The elephant-like mutant beast tried its old trick again, swinging its long trunk to pull the rope back down.

But with Tang Mo on guard, the mutant beast was in for a disappointment.

Tang Mo had had it with this elephant-like mutant beast.

’So what if it’s a little taller? So what if its trunk is a little longer?’

’You think you’re hot stuff just because you have a trunk? Showing off, are we?’

Pouring a large amount of spiritual power into her Wind Breaker, Tang Mo took two steps back for a running start, then leaped up and slashed at the giant elephant’s trunk.

The elephant’s trunk was soft to begin with, and Tang Mo, who was already fed up with the beast, put her full strength into the blow. With one slash, she sliced the trunk clean off.

The long trunk was still twitching as it hit the ground.

The pain sent the elephant into a frenzy. It reared up, bellowing in rage, then charged straight for Tang Mo.

Tang Mo had fought several Advanced Mutant Beasts at once before, and it hadn’t been too difficult.

But this time, she faced over forty of them. Her spiritual power had just increased by ten thousand points, and she wasn’t sure if her new strength was enough to handle this.

”Boss, the Spiritual Ability Users who went out with you have mostly returned, but they can’t go back out. They’re completely exhausted. Sending them out again would be a suicide mission.”

Back inside the walled city, a man called Lao Er helped Qin Ling to a chair as he delivered his report.

The boss’s original plan was no longer possible.

Although the Spiritual Ability Users were physically fine, resisting the spiritual attack had consumed most of their spiritual power.

Once a Spirit Attribute Superpower User runs out of spiritual power, they’re not much different from an ordinary person.

Lao Er had just asked the strongest Spirit Attribute Superpower User in the group how long he needed to recover.

The superpower user said it would take at least eight hours.

Eight hours. By then, it would be far too late.

Qin Ling nodded. He himself had barely made it back from out there; what hope did ordinary superpower users have?

”Then, Boss... Tang Mo is still out there. Should we send out the second wave?”

Lao Er didn’t dare make the call. The boss’s wife was out there, holding the line all by herself.

But Qin Ling was Qin Ling. After resting for a moment and regaining some strength, he pushed himself up and climbed onto the wall with his men to watch Tang Mo fight alone below.

The spiritual attack seemed to have fixated on Tang Mo, ramping up its output. Yet, she seemed completely unaffected, as if she didn’t feel a thing.

Just as it had with Qin Ling, the Soul Beast’s spiritual attack was focused solely on Tang Mo.

Normally, others wouldn’t be able to sense it. But as the Soul Beast kept ramping up its spiritual output, even superpower users like Qin Ling, who weren’t of the Spiritual System, could feel the fluctuations of spiritual power in the air.

Everyone watching the battle had the same question on their minds.

Just how strong was the woman below, the one fighting more than forty mutant beasts all by herself?

She was completely ignoring a spiritual attack of that magnitude, seemingly unaffected, as if she felt nothing at all.

’Just how powerful is an attribute value of ten thousand points?’

Qin Ling watched Momo below. She seemed to be having a hard time, but she was still managing.

”Let’s wait for now.”

Everyone could see that the spiritual attack had no effect on Tang Mo whatsoever.

If Tang Mo’s stamina gave out and she wanted to retreat, she could get back up instantly.

The second wave of Spiritual Ability Users could only last five minutes. It would be a waste to send them now. They had to be saved for the moment Tang Mo needed them most.

”Momo, don’t be afraid! I’ll help you!”

Jingjing was a Spirit Attribute mutant beast and was naturally immune to such spiritual attacks.

These Advanced Mutant Beasts were far too large for it to handle, so going down there would be useless. That was why it had been watching from the wall the whole time.

At first, the carefree Jingjing had just been watching the show, but now that Momo was in the thick of it, it grew anxious.

It paced back and forth on the wall in a panic.

”Momo, my spiritual power can slow the movements of the mutant beasts closest to you for about three seconds! That should relieve some of the pressure!”

Having thought of a plan, Jingjing immediately sent the message to Tang Mo.

Jingjing was a growth-type beast; with its current level of spiritual power, killing an Advanced Mutant Beast would be extremely difficult.

But it could certainly manage to restrain an opponent for a few seconds and interfere with their actions!

This was a trick it had learned by observing the Soul Beast, and today would be its first time trying it.

”Good!”

Sure enough, with Jingjing’s help, the pressure on Tang Mo eased considerably.

It might have only been a delay of a few seconds, but that was enough time for Tang Mo to unleash several attacks.

And nearly every one of Tang Mo’s attacks was fatal.

This was a golden opportunity that could not be wasted!

Stuck in a stalemate, an opening had finally appeared. Tang Mo knew she had to seize it and press her advantage.

So far, Tang Mo had only used the technique of infusing her weapon with spiritual power; she hadn’t yet unleashed a materialized spiritual attack.

That was because a materialized spiritual attack was more of a ranged ability.

She was currently in close-quarters combat with these Advanced Mutant Beasts, and she had never used a materialized spiritual attack at such a short distance.

However, the ways both the Soul Beast and Jingjing utilized spiritual power had given Tang Mo a great deal of inspiration.

’Perhaps there’s far more to spiritual power than I thought,’ she mused. ’I should start thinking more creatively during battle.’

Tang Mo retreated a few more steps, then stood her ground. She began to condense the spiritual power in her body in a special way, weaving it into a knot-like formation before projecting it outward.
