The Empress Wants a Divorce Every Day

Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Taking the Blame

Rong Che grew more and more irritated as he paced back and forth in the hall, and then suddenly stopped and turned towards Feng Yao.

Seeing his thoughtful expression, Feng Yao’s heart sank with a thud; what was the Emperor planning to do?

Rong Che had already walked over and stood in front of Feng Yao, saying softly, ”Uncle has now determined that the flower exchange in the sedan chair has nothing to do with Feng Qing, so we must find another person to take the blame for this crime. I think your mother is suitable?”

When Rong Che said this, he stopped, and Feng Yao’s face turned white, her body went limp, and she instinctively reached out to grab Rong Che’s sleeve.

”Your Majesty, please don’t.”

The Emperor intended to put the blame of the flower exchange onto her mother’s head. If her mother truly took the blame, the final outcome might be being sent to Huayun Temple, or worse, being abandoned.

She, a dignified Empress, having a mother who is a criminal or abandoned, would never be able to hold her head high in front of the noble women in the future.

Unfortunately, the more Rong Che thought about it, the more he thought his idea was a good one. Yes, letting the Lin Family take the blame would make everyone happy.

Besides, this matter was originally the fault of the Lin Family, and it serves them right. Clearly, the Marquis ordered her to prepare the same dowry for the two sisters, with grandeur.

But who knew she would covet cheapness and arrange such a poor dowry for Feng Qing. Wasn’t this losing a lot for a little? He couldn’t be blamed for it.

Having thought it through, Rong Che felt much lighter. Turning back to see Feng Yao’s pale face, he couldn’t help but feel compassionate, so he hugged Feng Yao to comfort her.

”Alright, don’t be sad. Although Madam will suffer some grievances, once I become Regent, I will find a way to resolve this and let her return to the Marquis Mansion; I will remember it.”

What more could Feng Yao say? The Emperor was determined to make her mother take the blame. Though Feng Yao was sad and heartbroken, she knew it had to be done.

If her mother didn’t take the blame, the Feng Family would have to. In any case, they had to give the Regent King an explanation.

”Your Majesty,” Feng Yao said, her eyes reddened, lightly sobbing, then choked and spoke: ”For the Emperor, it doesn’t matter if my mother and I suffer; I only wish for Your Majesty’s regency sooner.”

Rong Che was very moved by Feng Yao’s words and hugged her, saying, ”Yao’er truly understands reason. Rest assured, I will issue an order to let Madam go to Huayun Temple first. Once I am Regent, I will immediately come up with an excuse to let your mother return to the Marquis Jing’an Mansion, and at that time, I will bestow upon her the title of Third-rank Lady.”

Feng Yao’s mother was elevated from a concubine to a wife, so though she was Madam, she had never been ennobled. Now Rong Che promised her mother the status of Third-rank Lady; although not a First or Second Rank lady, it was already quite good.

Seeing the situation unfolding as such, Feng Yao could only agree: ”I thank Your Majesty on behalf of my mother.”

After calming Feng Yao down with a few more words, Rong Che instructed Feng Yao to find an opportunity to communicate with her mother, to admit the fault in the temple, so that the matter of switching the sedan chair would come to an end.

Feng Yao could only comply, saw the Emperor off, and went with her attendants to find her own mother.

Inside Funing Palace, the courtiers and external noble women were all seated according to their positions; Feng Qing, as the Regent Queen, had a seat naturally very close to the front. Aside from them, there were some people in the front positions whom Feng Qing did not recognize, owing to her rarely going out. Thus, even though she was the daughter of the Marquis Jing’an Mansion, she barely recognized anyone.
