The Empress Wants a Divorce Every Day

Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Coaxing and Deception

Feng Qing listened to Feng Yao’s words and looked at her, speechless: ”What nonsense is the Empress talking about? I’ve never even seen His Majesty, where did the affection for His Majesty come from?”

What was this woman raving about? Feng Qing’s eyes suddenly narrowed as she stared at Feng Yao.

Feng Yao observed her expression, it did not seem fake, so this woman before her was not a reincarnator. Was it that she had been concealing her true nature all along?

Feng Yao was infuriated inside but did not show it. Instead, she looked at Feng Qing with a face full of distress and spoke.

”Sister, this time our mistake of getting on the wrong sedan chair made the Imperial Family a laughingstock, and His Majesty is very angry. We must find a way to smooth over this issue.”

Feng Qing narrowed her eyes at Feng Yao, thinking that she was trying to coax her into taking all the blame? Wishful thinking.

Feng Qing, without showing any emotion, looked at Feng Yao and said: ”How to smooth it over?”

Feng Yao glanced softly at Feng Qing and said: ”Sister, if I may speak candidly, after much consideration, it’s better if you take the responsibility. You just have to say you liked the Prince and thus switched the sedan chairs. This way, it will satisfy others, and no one will ridicule you.”

”So many people in Dayan want to marry the Prince Regent, what you’ve done is not excessive. Even if you take responsibility, with me as your sister, the Prince Regent wouldn’t dare harm you. He would have to at least save face for His Majesty and me. Wouldn’t this be a happy resolution for all?”

”This not only preserves the Feng Family’s honor but also the Imperial Family’s dignity. In the future, when I become Empress, I will ensure you suffer no losses.”

”Sister, we women cannot be without support. If this issue were pinned on me and something happened, the Feng Family wouldn’t escape, and if the Feng Family is in trouble, you would be alone in the future. Who would respect a woman without her maternal family?”

”There are so many women in the Regent Prince Mansion, and none of them are easy to deal with. Without support, I’m afraid you would be bullied to death by those women.”

Feng Qing listened to Feng Yao’s soft and delicate words, only feeling this woman was extremely insidious. She sneered and replied: ”Why shouldn’t you or the Feng Family take responsibility for this? It’s clear from the matter of dowry that you tampered with the sedan chairs.”

”Just to seize the position of Empress, knowing full well that if the late Emperor hadn’t decreed it, it would not have fallen on Marquis Jing’an Mansion. You couldn’t have sat in that seat. Not to mention others, the Empress Dowager would surely have her own kin seize the Empress position.”

”You gained the benefit, but have me bear the blame, does it make sense?”

Feng Qing’s words enraged Feng Yao extremely, as if she had taken something from Feng Qing. Indeed, it was almost true; the late Emperor had granted the marriage because he lost a chess match to Feng Qing’s grandfather, the National Academy Sacrificial Officer, and thus betrothed Feng Qing to his Third Prince.

Otherwise, with Marquis Jing’an Mansion’s status, they could at most secure a concubine position, never the position of Empress.

But although Feng Yao knew these things, she still felt embarrassed, as if she had been stripped bare by someone else.

However, at the moment, she was counting on Feng Qing to admit all fault, so she forced herself to suppress her inner anger and coaxed Feng Qing, saying.

”Sister, as it stands now, you can’t possibly want me to take the blame, can you? If I take the blame, in order to quell the courtiers, His Majesty would undoubtedly strip me of my position as Empress, which would not benefit our Feng Family.”

”If the Feng Family acknowledges this issue, they would be targeted by the Imperial Censors, and father’s position as Chief of Staff would become unstable. If something happens to the Feng Family, neither of us will have support, and we would be left to be bullied in the future.”

”But if you were to take the blame, it wouldn’t have much of an impact. At most, people would say you were too enamored with the Prince, hence acted as you did. I, in the Empress position, will definitely protect you.”
