Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

Suddenly, after a few more hops, Yu Bao turned and ran.

Jin Lin hopped a few more times, still reveling in the joy of having the upper hand. When he came to his senses and realized his opponent was gone, he scrambled to give chase.

”Arf!”

Seeing him in pursuit, Yu Bao, as if fully prepared, whipped his head around and instantly threw up a Quicksand Shield.

A Sandstorm was relatively loose and could be forced through with sheer bullheadedness. A Quicksand Shield, however, was much denser. Anyone thinking of ramming it had better be sure their head was hard enough.

Annoyed by this trick, and with no time to go around, Jin Lin could only raise his paws to defend himself.

Yu Bao seized the opportunity to widen the distance, then unleashed several more Quicksand Shields in quick succession.

Two months ago, Jin Lin could have easily relied on the speed advantage of an Electric Element Pet Beast to smash through Yu Bao’s defenses.

But now, Yu Bao’s Real-time Energy Value had risen to match Jin Lin’s, and he even possessed a superior Elemental Perception and Control Ability.

Every Skill was unleashed with a timing that threw Jin Lin off his rhythm. The pressure was applied perfectly, giving Jin Lin no opening to break free and counterattack.

The combined assault of Quicksand Shield and Yellow Earth Wall put Jin Lin in a bind.

Jin Lin had tried to break free by force, unleashing a wide-range Skill, but to little effect.

Whenever he tried to use a Skill, Yu Bao would interrupt him right as he gathered his Energy, using the faster-casting Yellow Earth Wall.

Yu Bao’s Yellow Earth Wall was hard and sturdy, and it erupted from the ground in a tricky spot—aimed straight for an unmentionable area, making it impossible for Jin Lin to guard against.

Fighting an opponent like this was sheer torture!

”Way to go! Brother Shu has seized the initiative!”

”Whoa, God Su is incredible!”

”My friend, Su Zhi! I knew you could do it!”

”Go, Yu Bao! You’ve got this! Xiaoyue, you should cheer for Yu Bao, too!”

”Meeeoow.”

”Wait, isn’t this going a little too smoothly? I feel like Chen Xinghao wouldn’t leave such an obvious opening...”

The Huai City contestants’ section erupted in cheers. It was the first time since the match began that Su Zhi had managed to gain the upper hand, and nearly everyone was ecstatic.

Only Fang Yuan was frowning, his expression a stark contrast to everyone else’s.

On the arena stage, a sinister smile spread across Chen Xinghao’s face.

”Jin Lin, are you ready?”

”AWOOO!” An excited roar echoed from the Beast Taming Space.

The roar was brimming with energy. It hardly sounded like a creature that was on the defensive, taking a beating.

You could only say that every Pet Beast in a high-tier match was a natural-born actor.

The corners of Chen Xinghao’s mouth curled into a smirk.

”Excellent! If you dare to make a fool of us in the arena, then be prepared to face our fury. Attack with all your strength in a moment. Don’t hold back. The team competition allows for a certain casualty rate, after all...”

Before the words had even left his mouth, Chen Xinghao’s expression froze.

Yu Bao, who had seemed about to cast another Quicksand Shield, suddenly feinted, withdrawing his Energy.

At the same time, the swirling dust reversed its flow in mid-air, coalescing into several Burning Sand Blades that shot backward!

Murmurs of confusion spread through the audience, but in the next moment, their eyes went wide.

The Burning Sand Blades seemed to strike something, sinking halfway into thin air as the sound of slicing flesh echoed out.

Immediately after, using the blades’ impact points and the tactile feedback as a frame of reference, Yu Bao activated his Earth Force Field. The dust swirled rapidly around the Burning Sand Blades and, as if homing in on something, swarmed to envelop it, revealing four cylindrical outlines.

A golden light gradually emerged, and the invisible entity’s true form was revealed—

It was a ”transparent version” of Jin Lin. Its body was crisscrossed with the piercing Burning Sand Blades and was already shattering with countless cracks. Its golden eyes were filled with pain and shock.

A collective gasp rippled through the audience.

In the contestant waiting area, the Huai City members were all sitting back and enjoying the show. Next to them, the entire team from the Shanda University Affiliated School was ashen-faced.

Looking at the stunned Chen Xinghao across from him, Su Zhi folded his arms.

”Arf.” Yu Bao put on his sunglasses.

”Yu Bao wants to know if you’re feeling a little something we like to call ’Awe of the Wise One’?”

”Impossible! That’s absolutely impossible!”

The ever-arrogant Chen Xinghao completely lost his composure. ”How did you figure out my Beast Taming Talent?!”

”To be honest, we started trying to figure out your Beast Taming Talent right after you beat us in the summer camp finals. We’d only met that one time, so we couldn’t really deduce much.”

Su Zhi glanced at Yu Bao.

”Later, while we were helping Shao Ya find her second Pet Beast, Yu Bao had a flash of insight. He figured your Beast Taming Talent was likely some kind of invisible summon that secretly helps your Pet Beast execute different tactics.

”But based on our experience, these kinds of invisible summons are usually hard to detect. And you’re no fool; you wouldn’t give us an opportunity to spot it.

”So for this battle, Yu Bao changed his tactics. He proactively attacked your Jin Lin to concentrate the most intense area of combat around him, while Yu Bao himself controlled the field from a distance. This was to prevent Jin Lin’s lightning attacks from interfering with the Earth Force Field’s reconnaissance.

”You still managed to disrupt us a few times, whether intentionally or not, but in the end, persistence pays off... for a persistent dog. Yu Bao confirmed the existence of the hidden ’summon’ and then turned your own plan against you, deliberately feigning a weakness.

”And then—we sprung the trap. The result was pretty much what we predicted. The summon’s appearance and abilities are probably related to your specific Pet Beast, right? Not that it matters. The important thing is... it dies when it’s killed.”

”Arf,” Yu Bao added, pushing up his glasses as if to say, ’Just so.’

”How is that possible...”

Chen Xinghao broke out in a sweat. ”A mutt from some backwater city... actually figured out my...”

Su Zhi couldn’t be bothered to listen to his villain monologue. ”Yu Bao, go bust its balls.”
