Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The allure of power was self-evident.

The young man standing before Wen Yu had opened a new door for him.

This wasn’t merely about relying on skills and physical attributes, but about using skills as a foundation to develop even greater power—a stronger method of energy manipulation, one that approached the very essence of energy.

So, Wen Yu unabashedly stooped.

In the face of benefits, bowing his head meant little to him.

…

”You really want to learn?”

The young man’s voice reached Wen Yu, who immediately nodded his head vigorously, like a chick pecking at grain.

Seeing Wen Yu in such a state, the Demon Lord remained expressionless, but deep inside, he sighed.

This boy, although I chose him myself, truly lacks any refinement in character or temperament. Now that I look at him, this fellow does seem somewhat similar to Bai.

”Teaching you... is not out of the question...”

After a moment of contemplation, the Demon Lord spoke decisively.

”But you have to do me a favor.”

”I will certainly do my utmost!”

Wen Yu immediately agreed.

The Demon Lord, however, waved his hand.

”Hold your horses, let me finish.”

At this, the Demon Lord’s Soul Body sat down before Wen Yu. Looking at the feigned determination in Wen Yu’s eyes, he inwardly wanted to laugh. However, feigning ignorance of Wen Yu’s minor calculations, he pointed to the enormous globe of light behind him and began to speak slowly.

”Do you know what that thing behind me is?”

”A concentration of Soul Power, I presume? Yes, that should be it.”

”And do you know who created it? Or what it’s used for?”

Wen Yu fell silent. How could he possibly know such things?

…

”This thing, just as you perceive it, is a concentration of Soul Power. Its effect is essentially that of a massive reservoir for Soul Energy. Once its master’s Soul Energy is depleted, they can absorb the stored Soul Energy here to restore and strengthen their own soul.”

”As for the source of this Soul Energy...”

At this point, the Demon Lord gave Wen Yu a cryptic smile. ”Every time one of the dead souls from the Universe of Immortals and Heroes is created—that is, when someone dies—their Soul Energy is absorbed by this light orb. Those specks of light you just saw are the Soul Energy from the dead souls of the Universe of Immortals and Heroes.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Yu instantly felt a chill.

The Demon Lord hadn’t finished speaking.

”So, now you understand who orchestrated such a grand scheme, don’t you?”

”Heavenly Dao...”

Wen Yu murmured. No wonder the Heavenly Dao initiated this bounty hunt reward plan. No wonder the Heavenly Dao wanted the participants of the bounty hunt reward plan to slaughter one another. In the end, it was all just so they could become nourishment for its soul...

Perhaps, in places Wen Yu didn’t know, various ’plans’ and ’military operations’ were already being launched on a large scale under the Heavenly Dao’s direction. Every deceased native of the Universe of Immortals and Heroes would supplement a portion of Soul Energy to the light orb.

Until, at last...

”The people of the Universe of Immortals and Heroes have become mere prop characters. Even if resurrected by the Soul Bead’s power, their souls still possess great deficiencies.”

The Demon Lord continued, without regard for Wen Yu’s thoughts.

”The Heavenly Dao is naturally no exception to this rule. The current Heavenly Dao’s soul has significant weaknesses and deficiencies. However, this light orb is sufficient to completely repair the weaknesses in its soul. At that time, the Heavenly Dao will be thoroughly resurrected with an intact soul!”

”Of course, even if thoroughly resurrected, the Heavenly Dao still cannot shed its characteristics as a prop character. After all... a Level 11 transcendent powerful expert, no matter how strong, cannot possibly escape the Dominator’s control.”

”However, the Universe of Immortals and Heroes has a technique...”

”It’s called possession...”

”As for whether one can escape the limitations of a prop character after possession, I am not entirely clear. However, this is, after all, the only method that offers hope for a complete ’Resurrection’!”

After speaking, the Demon Lord immediately fell silent, watching Wen Yu with a cryptic expression.

This time, Wen Yu’s mind went completely blank...

If everything this young man before him said was true, then who was the Heavenly Dao’s target for possession?

It couldn’t possibly just find someone random to possess for fun, could it?

And he himself, considering his strength, status, and even his social circle of ”no kin, no friends,” undoubtedly added many points towards his becoming a target for possession...

If one also considered the Heavenly Dao’s current attitude towards him...

”Damn it! Almighty Demon Vine, you need to give me an explanation!”

Wen Yu’s Spiritual Fluctuation was immediately transmitted to the Almighty Demon Vine’s body.

Faced with Wen Yu’s interrogation, the Almighty Demon Vine was silent for a long while before replying hesitantly, ”These things... I don’t know either...”

…

Wen Yu remained silent for a full three minutes. Eventually, another small speck of light drifted from afar, reaching the vicinity of the great light orb. As if unable to find its target, the small speck of light hovered nearby for a long time before finally locking onto its direction and instantly drilling into the Demon Lord’s Soul Body.

Wen Yu was in a state of Soul Perception. What appeared before his eyes now was completely different from what had happened just moments ago!

As the young man before him took a breath, the small speck of light drifted into his body. In Wen Yu’s Soul Perception view, the semi-transparent Soul Body was observed with utmost clarity.

When the small speck of light sank into the young man’s body, an unknown undulation of power emanated from within the Demon Lord’s Soul Body, directly locking onto the small speck. It then began to stir and separate it, until the small speck of light was completely divided into two streams of differently colored aura!

One stream was crystal clear; in Wen Yu’s perception, it was extremely pure Soul Power!

The other, however, was a greyish, turbid stream, appearing variegated and impure. Faintly, Wen Yu could even hear wails and roars from within it.

The young man before him was acting as a filtering device here!

The crystal-clear Soul Power was expelled from the Demon Lord’s Soul Body and sprayed onto the great light orb. Afterwards, the Demon Lord’s Soul Body inhaled again, drawing a stream of Soul Energy, much weaker than the one expelled, back into itself!

Overall, this returned energy seemed to compensate for the Demon Lord’s expenditure in filtering the small speck of light.

…

Only when the entire process was complete did the Demon Lord turn to look at Wen Yu.

”You understand now?”

His deep voice echoed in Wen Yu’s ears. Wen Yu swallowed nervously and nodded lightly.

”This is why I need your help...”
