Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Mm.

Wen Yu nodded gently, indicating he understood, then resumed his careful observation of the dense clusters of light dots on the Compass.

The dots moved back and forth along different routes. The good news was that these dots weren’t heading straight for his position—which meant the natives of the Universe of Immortals and Heroes had not detected the battle that had occurred here. However, observing the Compass again, Wen Yu gradually noticed something amiss...

「...」

”Luo Hai, what’s wrong?”

A bald, powerfully built middle-aged man, noticing Luo Hai had stopped behind the group and was frowning as he stared intently at the Compass in his hand, couldn’t help but ask, puzzled.

”Something’s not right about this...”

Out of respect for the Level 7 Breakthrough Achiever, Luo Hai replied.

”What’s the problem? Is it about His Highness the Young Master meeting those four people earlier? Besides, you haven’t told us how the battle went. It was supposed to be an easy task; don’t tell me someone else snatched the opportunity!”

The speaker was a young girl, about thirteen or fourteen, as delicate and pretty as a porcelain doll, like a flower bud on the verge of blooming. Unfortunately, in the post-apocalyptic era, judging age by appearance had become a difficult task.

She was ostensibly the second strongest in the squad—also a Level 7 Breakthrough Achiever!

Several thousand people were participating in this bounty hunting plan, and all of them were undoubtedly confident in their own strength. Consequently...

The proportion of Breakthrough Achievers among them was terrifyingly high!

Take Luo Hai’s team for example: Luo Hai himself was a Level 6 Breakthrough Achiever. Beyond him, his eight-member team even included four Level 7 Breakthrough Achievers!

It was precisely this confidence in his team’s strength that made Luo Hai believe his team was the most powerful in this bounty hunting plan...

As he thought of this, Wu Long’s figure suddenly surfaced in his mind.

Well, being *one of* the strongest should at least be achievable...

A jumble of thoughts flashed through Luo Hai’s mind. Perhaps thinking Luo Hai had been lost in thought for too long, the young girl gently nudged him.

”Hey, hey, hey! I’m talking to you!”

This nudge seemed to snap Luo Hai back to reality. His gaze shifted to the two red dots still flashing in the upper right corner of the Compass. Luo Hai sighed softly.

”Three are already dead... I just don’t know if the Young Master was one of them.”

After saying this, Luo Hai immediately shook his head.

”No, he shouldn’t be. That four-person team’s hunt must have failed.”

”PHEW.”

A long sigh escaped the bald man.

”It’s good that they failed. Perhaps the Immortal Emperor left some treasure for the Young Master. Anyway, we just need to be careful!”

As the strongest in this team, the bald man naturally had enough confidence in his own strength. He believed that no matter what trump cards the Young Master had, encountering him meant certain death!

”The strange thing I’m talking about isn’t that.”

Luo Hai knew the bald man had misunderstood and quickly corrected him.

”The strange thing I’ve noticed is the movements of every participating team.”

With that, Luo Hai plopped down where he stood, gesturing with his finger at the dense dots of light on the Compass.

”Look here. This team is clearly moving in a straight line toward another team!”

”And here, these two teams approached each other and then directly clashed. Of their ten red dots, seven were extinguished in a short time, and then the remaining three red dots moved off in another direction. Yes, this time their movement is much more random!”

”And this one, and this one...”

After Luo Hai finished speaking, he looked up at his seven teammates. Noticing the confusion in their eyes, he sighed deeply and then summarized.

”Every team’s initial movement has a clear purpose—they’re looking for someone! And once they find them, battle erupts immediately, and the light dots quickly disappear, meaning people died. So, their objective is quite easy to guess!”

”They, like us, have other tasks—bounty hunting tasks!!!”

The bald, brawny man stroked his chin and said gravely.

”Correct!”

Luo Hai nodded in affirmation.

”And, unlike our previous deduction, their mission isn’t to hunt the Young Master, but to hunt other teams. It’s highly probable that they also received orders from Lord Heaven’s Path...” What on earth is Lord Heaven’s Path thinking...

”THWACK!”

A sharp rap landed soundly on Luo Hai’s head.

The girl, retracting her right hand, was smiling sweetly, but her tone carried a rare hint of coldness.

”Is Lord Heaven’s Path’s thinking something you can fathom? Shouldn’t you just focus on completing the mission?”

Hearing this, Luo Hai rubbed his forehead and said calmly.

”Understood... There’s one more thing. I’ve been watching from the start; four light dots are heading straight for us. They’re not close yet, but based on my earlier conjecture, their target must be us!”

”Oh?”

The middle-aged brawny man’s eyes slowly narrowed.

”Who?”

”It should be Wu Long’s squad. Mm, they’re probably the only ones with a chance to take us down!”

”Wu Long...”

The middle-aged brawny man muttered Wu Long’s name. After a moment, he took a deep breath.

”So, do we deal with the Young Master first... or Wu Long first...”

Luo Hai slowly put away the Compass. A glint flashed in his eyes.

”Why not take them both down...? Don’t forget, the Young Master doesn’t know who our target is, nor Wu Long’s. There’s plenty of room to maneuver here!”

”However, our current plan of action needs to change.”

Although not the strongest in the squad, Luo Hai’s abilities and status were clear, making him the team’s apparent decision-maker and leader.

”How should we change it?”

”We’ll take a slight detour. At the very least, we can’t let others figure out our true target from our movements!!!”

「...」

Luo Hai’s plan was very successful. At least, from what Wen Yu could see on the Compass, no one was heading straight for him.

After Tang Haofei relayed the conversation among Heluo’s group of four to Wen Yu, Wen Yu had a general idea of Heavenly Dao’s intentions—it simply wanted to send its pawns here to kill him directly!

Under such circumstances, if anyone rushed straight towards his position, even an idiot would know something was amiss...

The reason Wen Yu truly felt something was wrong was identical to what Luo Hai had realized.

After some simple deduction, Wen Yu reached the same conclusion as Luo Hai. He then frowned and asked the Almighty Demon Vine.

”What’s going on?”
