Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”My main purpose today was to pay a visit to the Young Master and to admire his grace. As I seem to have inconvenienced the Young Master, I will take my leave now,” Luo Hai finished speaking and promptly stood up. He beckoned his three lackeys and marched straight towards the exit.

Upon witnessing this, Wen Yu was unable to grasp Luo Hai’s intentions. This idiot paraded his might, acted smug, and then just left? What was that all about? Showboating? Or merely a display of dominance?

”Oh, I almost forgot something, Your Highness the Young Master.”

Already at the door, Luo Hai paused and added, ”Although your title, Young Master of the Heavenly Palace, is lofty, the higher the title, the greater the responsibility. For instance, the war against the Demon Tribe, internal resource allocation, and so forth. I heard from people in Ling Yun City that the Young Master requires many things. However, according to the rules of the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance, even the Young Master cannot take certain items without cause, such as the only supreme treasure left by the Immortal Emperor—the Heaven-covering Banner. The significance of such a supreme treasure in the current Universe of Immortals and Heroes is self-evident. After the Immortal Emperor’s death, countless eyes have been fixed on the cultivation techniques and inherited treasures he left behind. I hope the Young Master does not cause the Almighty Immortal Emperor to be unable to rest in peace in the netherworld.”

Upon finishing his words, Luo Hai strode away with his three lackeys, disappearing from the Sky Pole Hall and leaving Wen Yu sitting alone, his expression grim.

Luo Hai’s final words had made his intentions perfectly clear.

The inheritance left by the Almighty Immortal Emperor after his death originally belonged to the entire Heavenly Palace—how much had an Immortal Emperor who suppressed ages left behind after his death? What would be the value of these things? Wen Yu could well imagine.

However, because he, this ”Young Master,” had emerged out of thin air, infringing upon the interests of certain individuals, it was no longer strange to be targeted!

”He is testing your strength! There was a skill fluctuation just now. Although faint, I sensed it,” Tang Haofei, standing beside him, revealed another purpose of Luo Hai’s visit.

”Indeed, he was trying to gauge my strength.”

Wen Yu could somewhat guess Luo Hai’s general intentions. Wen Yu’s status was exceedingly high, but Luo Hai’s was not low either. However, status wasn’t the decisive factor—when disagreements arose between them, while the attitudes of Heavenly Dao and Da Luo would certainly be decisive, personal strength was also a crucial element.

To put it bluntly, the greatest function of status was to provide a bonus to one’s own strength—this statement was a truth, whether in the apocalypse or before it. If one’s status was insufficient, one could climb higher, but if one’s strength was insufficient, then one truly deserved death.

”That guy is very strong!” Tang Haofei’s second sentence was a subtle acknowledgment of Luo Hai’s power.

”Of course, I know he’s strong. If he weren’t, he wouldn’t have sat before me and spouted all that nonsense,” Wen Yu’s face darkened further. He couldn’t discern Luo Hai’s strength, which meant Luo Hai was significantly stronger than him.

”How does he compare to you?”

”Not much difference,” Tang Haofei also looked somewhat grim.

At this stage, Old Tang’s power might already have surpassed his peak in his previous life. One must remember, Old Tang had been a Level 8 expert in his previous life!

However, Luo Hai, a Level 6 expert, was now nearly on par with Tang Haofei, a Level 5 expert. This made Tang Haofei wonder if he’d lived his previous life so foolishly that it was as if he’d ended up in the Cyclops’s stomach.

Luo Hai’s remarks successfully unsettled Wen Yu. Unable to deduce anything on his own, Wen Yu decisively consulted the Almighty Demon Vine.

”What did Luo Hai mean by his last sentence?”

”It doesn’t mean much. In the original plan, I was prepared to give you everything left by the Immortal Emperor. However, there is indeed such a rule in the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance, as Luo Hai mentioned. Actually, these things aren’t important. What truly matters is the will of Heavenly Dao and Da Luo. Do you understand what I mean?”

”I understand.”

Rules were rigid, but people were adaptable. When there was a vast disparity in individual power levels, the strong possessed the ability to redefine the rules.

The rules of the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance were all bullshit. In Wen Yu’s current view, even his own identity as Young Master was about to become bullshit. The true decision-makers were the current higher-ups of the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance, that small group of people truly standing at the pinnacle of the Universe of Immortals and Heroes!

At least Luo Hai was right about one thing: tomorrow, the true power holders of the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance were to descend. These were Heavenly Dao, the Almighty Immortal Emperor’s First Senior Disciple, and Da Luo, the current Alliance Hierarch. They were coming to welcome him, the ”Young Master.”

Of course, on the surface, his status would be highly esteemed. However, judging from Luo Hai’s recent attitude, Wen Yu could already glean some insight into the true situation.

Wen Yu had a premonition that the scenario he had envisioned—the grand welcoming of the Crown Prince—might devolve into a sordid, clichéd drama of ousting the first heir and amicably dividing the benefits!

With the imminent arrival of Heavenly Dao and Da Luo, the entire Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance Branch rapidly became a hive of activity.

From Luo Hai’s earlier performance, Wen Yu could roughly guess that Luo Hai, despite his strength and cunning, placed excessive importance on appearances. Wen Yu wasn’t sure if this was a common phenomenon in the Universe of Immortals and Heroes. However, with Luo Hai involved, all the face-saving measures to welcome Lord Heaven’s Path and Lord Da Luo were meticulously orchestrated by him.

The entire Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance Branch was bustling with an almost festive air.

Just at noon, as Wen Yu finished his lunch, an administrator from the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance came to the Sky Pole Cabinet to deliver another piece of news.

”Your Highness the Young Master, tomorrow Lord Heaven’s Path and Lord Da Luo will descend. Lord Luo Hai invites you to join the welcoming. What are your wishes in this matter?”

”I understand. Have Luo Hai send someone to pick me up tomorrow morning.”

”Yes, Your Highness the Young Master.”

Although he was the Young Master in name, Wen Yu knew he had to go and welcome his Senior Brother, who was supposedly ”coming to see him.” This was especially true because that individual was Heavenly Dao—a Level 11 transcendent powerful expert, his Senior Brother, and the only person who knew the truth of his identity!

Thinking about the tasks for the next day, Wen Yu sighed.

This time, it was finally his turn, the ”Young Master,” to flatter others!

A single day wasn’t long, but counting from his arrival at the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance Branch on the sixth layer of Tiangong, two days had already passed.

Moreover, it was highly unusual that in these two days, Wen Yu hadn’t gained any benefits. Instead, he found himself sinking deeper into the complexities of the Heavenly Palace. Things had reached a point where even the Almighty Demon Vine was uncertain if events were still unfolding according to the Almighty Immortal Emperor’s plan. This was the most terrifying aspect.

Restless, Wen Yu lay on his bed, listening to Tang Haofei’s thunderous snores from the next room, his mind preoccupied with the events of the coming day.

Tomorrow, he was to meet Heavenly Dao, the most powerful being in the entire Heavenly Palace.

Originally, this should have been good news, but now, even the Almighty Demon Vine was unsure of Heavenly Dao’s intentions.

This meant tomorrow’s meeting would effectively be a ”trial” for Wen Yu!
