Entertainment: Wanted to Acquire the Company on the First Day of Signing

137: Are you trying to morally blackmail me?The Host wanted to help Meng Wei up, but was pushed away by him.

Meng Wei threw himself at Lu Qingyu’s feet:

”President Lu, Xiangwan Entertainment is a business I’ve spent my whole life building. Please return it to me. Can we just cancel this betting agreement?”

To be honest, Lu Qingyu was also shocked; he hadn’t expected Meng Wei to be so shameless.

Meng Wei cried as he spoke. Those who didn’t know better would think Lu Qingyu had done something shady behind the scenes, forcing a man of his age to kneel and beg.

Meng Wei wept bitter tears, attempting to morally kidnap Lu Qingyu.

More and more onlookers gathered at the scene. Even the celebrities walking behind Lu Qingyu couldn’t help but stop and watch the scene.

Wu Yao was a bit frightened. It was already inconvenient for her to walk in a dress, and now she didn’t even know where to go.

Lu Qingyu quickly realized what Meng Wei was trying to do today:

”An agreement is an agreement. Business relies on credibility. We signed a contract before the bet. How can you say it’s canceled just like that?”

Meng Wei ignored him. He no longer cared about his dignity. As long as he could get Xiangwan Entertainment back, what did it matter if his reputation was ruined?

”President Lu, Xiangwan Entertainment has over a thousand employees. More than half of them are veterans who have worked with me for over 20 years. I have to be responsible for them. President Lu, you are young and promising, and you already have Qingcheng Entertainment and Black Pearl Entertainment. Please, have mercy and let me go.”

The livestream had never been turned off. Originally, the viewership for the Hehuan Film Festival was 3 million, but from the moment Meng Wei knelt, the number surged to 8 million.

Netizens also didn’t expect that the most boring annual event like walking the red carpet would become the most interesting thing this year.

This kind of plot was rare; it was much better than watching the awards ceremony.

In his words, Meng Wei portrayed Lu Qingqingyu as a villain who had forcibly seized someone else’s property, as if he had driven the man to ruin.

However, the netizens in the livestream were indeed led astray by Meng Wei and began their moral kidnapping.

[This person looks a bit pitiful. At such an old age, he’s kneeling in public to someone about the same age as his son.]

[What could possibly require kneeling? He looks quite pitiful; maybe Lu Qingyu’s betting agreement should just be canceled!]

[The person above is talking nonsense. This bet is worth 2 billion, and it’s all in a contract. It’s legal and compliant. You say cancel it, and it’s canceled?]

[This old man is so old and has already knelt to Lu Qingyu. What more does he want?]

[Gosh, do you really not realize you’re morally kidnapping him?]

The Host didn’t know what to do and could only quietly ask the person in charge of the venue through his earpiece.

The person in charge called for security, but they were stopped by Meng Wei’s people because Meng Wei had instructed them before coming up to stop any security guards that arrived.

In previous years of the Hehuan Film Festival, the hot search topics on Weibo would be dominated by the outfits of male and female celebrities.

This year was different; this year, the feed was flooded with Meng Wei kneeling.

Meng Wei kept pleading with Lu Qingyu. Any ordinary 18-year-old would have been panicking in such a situation, or even helplessly agreed to cancel the betting agreement under the rhythm Meng Wei was setting.

But Lu Qingyu was no ordinary kid.

He didn’t care at all that Meng Wei’s act of kneeling was being exaggerated and twisted, causing him to be misunderstood by netizens.

”I have a question for President Meng.”

Meng Wei also felt that this Lu Qingyu was too difficult to handle. He had thrown away his face today and knelt to Lu Qingyu during the red carpet livestream just to catch him off guard, but seeing Lu Qingyu’s calm appearance, he didn’t seem affected much at all.

Meng Wei started sweating profusely. The pace of things didn’t seem to be going as he had imagined.

”Please speak, President Lu. As long as you can agree to cancel the betting contract, I’ll do whatever you want.”

Lu Qingyu gave a cold laugh and then continued to ask:

”Regarding the artists who bet against Xiangwan Entertainment before, when they lost, was there ever a precedent of Xiangwan Entertainment canceling the contracts?”

As soon as these words came out, Meng Wei was stunned, and those watching the livestream were also stunned.

There were now 10 million people in the livestream, and what surprised everyone was that a group of artists suddenly flooded in.

Some of these people were there to watch the show, while others were those who had once made betting agreements with Xiangwan Entertainment and lost.

Those who had lost to Xiangwan Entertainment were the ones who least wanted Lu Qingqingyu to compromise.

”This... this, but these two situations are different.”

Meng Wei stammered out such a sentence.

Lu Qingyu continued:

”So Xiangwan Entertainment has never let those artists who lost their bets go, right? In fact, as far as I know, there are several artists who are now in their 60s and are still working desperately just to pay off their debts.”

”Did Xiangwan Entertainment let them go because they worked so hard? They didn’t, did they?”

”As for the ’difference’ President Meng mentioned, I think it’s the amount, right? No one has ever bet as much as we did.”

”But this is a fair trade. You proposed the bet, and I agreed. You put up 2 billion, and I also put up 2 billion. If I were the one who lost today, would President Meng have let me go?”

Lu Qingyu’s counter-question made Meng Wei break out in a cold sweat.

Only then did the netizens catch a hint of the truth.

After Lu Qingyu finished speaking, several people began frantically sending gifts in the Hehuan Film Festival livestream.

[Song Simiao sent 10 Rockets.]

[Wang Chuanqi sent a Rainbow Castle.]

[Chen Jiaying sent a Lamborghini.]

Each of these gifts cost several hundred yuan. Everyone was wondering who was so generous to send such expensive gifts, but when they saw the IDs, they were all dumbfounded. Weren’t these all artists?

These people couldn’t help but want to clap and cheer after watching the livestream. They had never felt that sending gifts was such a happy thing.

However, the fans of these people were still a bit worried when they saw their idols and favorite stars sending such gifts to Lu Qingyu.

[Brother, have you finished paying off the money you owe from the bet? Doesn’t it hurt to send such expensive gifts?]

[Holy crap, there are actually so many people who lost their bets.]

[Oh my god, I just found out that my Brother Song was also one of those who lost a bet. No wonder he’s been working so hard on his career these past two years.]

”I’m afraid I’m going to disappoint President Meng today. I will not cancel this betting agreement because I have already won. I have always liked dealing with shameless people. Do you know why?”

Meng Wei: ”Wh-why?”

Lu Qingyu bent down slightly and then said, ”Because there’s no need to worry about having a bottom line.”

Lu Qingyu’s business principle is: if you’re shameless, I’ll be even more shameless.

Kindness cannot be applied indiscriminately; otherwise, it would be an insult to those who are truly kind.

A person like Meng Wei has cheated countless people in the entertainment industry. Lu Qingyu’s actions could be considered venting everyone’s anger.
