Chapter 876: Chapter 6: Death by Reflex

Su Xiao was knocked back by the beam cannon and landed after gliding a short distance in mid-air.

Just as he landed, Kinuhata Saiai had somehow appeared behind him.

”Gotcha.”

Mugino Shizuri, her cheeks splattered with blood, let out a cold sneer as several more beam cannons blasted towards Su Xiao.

As the beam cannon attacked Su Xiao, a small white fist aimed for his head. Don’t underestimate this fair little fist; it could easily crush a tank.

Thump!

Kinuhata Saiai’s fist slammed into the counter shield, causing the round counter shield around Su Xiao to sink into the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

Boom, boom, boom, boom...

Several beam cannons pounded against the counter shield. Inside the counter shield, Su Xiao’s eyes drooped, as he glanced sideways at the shield beside him, faint cracks appearing on its surface.

”The attack power is strong, but the trajectory is too direct and easily telegraphed.”

Murmuring, Su Xiao dismissed the counter shield, testing the attack strength of the esper.

Judging by Mugino Shizuri’s attack strength, if someone stronger, like the Super Electromagnetic Cannon, attacked with full power, a single hit might break the counter shield. However, the signs of an attack from the Super Electromagnetic Cannon are even more obvious, which makes it a big question whether it would hit Su Xiao.

Noticing Su Xiao dismissing his counter shield, both Mugino Shizuri and Kinuhata Saiai were taken aback. Little did they know that the counter shield limited Su Xiao’s speed to some extent.

”Bet on a minute.”

Su Xiao lightly side-stepped, dodging a kick from Kinuhata Saiai and a beam cannon simultaneously.

Boom!

The beam cannon hit Kinuhata Saiai’s nitrogen armor, but she only took a few steps back, with the armor undamaged. At this moment, the thickness of the nitrogen armor was double its usual, with its strength increased at least tenfold. However, this enhancement, induced by drugs, only lasted for a dozen minutes.

A number of counter shields appeared around Su Xiao. He immediately severed the energy connection with them. This way, the counter shields could exist independently for up to one minute and could move away from Su Xiao.

The counter shields drifted, distributing themselves around Mugino Shizuri.

Mugino Shizuri became vigilant, aiming her beam cannons at the counter shields. Without energy supply, the shields were not sturdy and were shattered instantly.

These counter shields were not meant for attack, but to aid Su Xiao in rapid movement.

The muscles in Su Xiao’s legs slightly flexed as he leaped onto one of the counter shields. This shield existed independently and did not share gravity with Su Xiao, allowing him to stand on it and hover.

Taking a deep breath, Su Xiao gripped his long knife tightly. With a forceful push, he disappeared from sight.

Boom, boom, boom, boom...

The sounds of stomping and sonic booms blended together as Su Xiao leaped between the counter shields, becoming a dark blur shuttling around Mugino Shizuri.

Both Mugino Shizuri and Kinuhata Saiai could not keep up with Su Xiao’s movements with their dynamic vision, forcing them to huddle together in frustration.

Suddenly, Su Xiao appeared in front of Mugino Shizuri. His Dragon Slash had vanished, and energy shield-formed protection layers appeared on his forearms, resembling two light blue energy bracers.

Su Xiao’s body bent in mid-air like a drawn strong bow, throwing a punch at Mugino Shizuri.

A few green barriers surrounded Mugino Shizuri, capable of dissolving and decomposing most substances or energies. They contained a strong electronic force field, making a knife attack unwise, so Su Xiao opted for a punch instead.

Su Xiao’s energy shield-wrapped fist struck the green barrier.

Crack, crack, crack...

As soon as his fist touched the green barrier, cracks appeared on the energy shield wrapping his fist. Fortunately, the energy shield, formed by consuming 400 points of mana, was extremely durable.

Su Xiao’s fist breached the green barrier. This time, he felt no suction, proving once again that refraining from using a knife was wise.

Bam!

Su Xiao punched Mugino Shizuri in the chest, causing her ribs to crack with a sharp sound. The force penetrated her body, tearing a circular hole in the back of her clothes—a testament to Su Xiao’s control over his power. Instead of knocking the enemy away, he allowed the force to pass through their body for greater damage.

Mugino Shizuri’s eyes widened. She could not comprehend how the enemy had quickly devised a method to counter her defense.

The battle had barely begun, not even five minutes in. This was the gap in battle experience and combat intelligence.

With a loud ”wah,” Mugino Shizuri spat out a mouthful of blood, fragments of her internal organs visible within. She glanced down at her body, noticing a pronounced swelling on one side.

”Dare to take advantage of me, I...”

Reaching for her neckline, Mugino Shizuri attempted to retrieve something from within her clothes. However, Su Xiao, already in close range, wouldn’t allow such an opportunity.

Su Xiao dodged a beam cannon, narrowly avoiding a graze on his cheek, leaving a burn mark.

Ignoring the beam cannon, Su Xiao stepped forward, extending his left arm to grab Mugino Shizuri’s right forearm.

Crack.

”Ah!”

Twisting unnaturally, Mugino Shizuri’s right forearm sent pain nearly causing her to faint.

But it wasn’t over yet. Su Xiao seized Mugino Shizuri’s collar with one hand and drove his knee into her abdomen.

With a thud, Mugino Shizuri spewed acid mixed with blood, her vision filled with stars.

Mugino Shizuri suddenly lifted her head, glaring at Su Xiao in hatred as several green orbs appeared around her. Unstable, these green orbs could explode at any moment, an attempt to take Su Xiao down with her.

However, once Su Xiao was close, Mugino Shizuri’s pathetic close-quarters ability made any mutual destruction impossible.

Su Xiao’s arm contracted, delivering an uppercut to Mugino Shizuri’s jaw. Her eyes rolled back, and the green orbs around her vanished.

With a thud, Mugino Shizuri collapsed, with severe rib fractures, multiple internal organ injuries, a broken forearm, a fractured jaw, torn jaw ligaments, and a severe concussion. If medical attention was received promptly and fortunately, she might survive but would forever lose her ability to boast with her mouth. Meal times were best managed with a straw.

Su Xiao’s Slaughter Dagger appeared in his hand. Instinctively, he pressed the dagger against Mugino Shizuri’s throat, almost reflexively slicing through.

With a squelch, blood splattered as Mugino Shizuri’s throat was cut.

Feeling the warm blood splash on his face, Su Xiao was momentarily stunned. He originally intended to leave her alive, but his long-ingrained habits subconsciously dictated that in battle, his enemies remained non-threatening.

[You have killed Mugino Shizuri (esper)]

[Mugino Shizuri was ranked fourth among espers, gaining 5.6% of World Source; now totaling 5.6% of World Source.]

[Your Talent ’Soul Eater’ activated, permanently increasing your Mana Value by 30 points, bringing your maximum Mana Value to 3146 points.]

[You received a Treasure Chest (Light Gold).]

...

Su Xiao picked up the treasure chest from the ground. Reality proved that the development path of espers was too extreme. Faced with an enemy like Su Xiao, who was well-rounded, most espers found themselves at a loss.

Of course, this also related to Mugino Shizuri’s abilities, which leaned towards offense but clearly lacked defensive capabilities. If it were one of the top three espers, it wouldn’t be so easy, especially the first-ranked one, whose defense was nearly insurmountable.

The person ranked first among espers was known as One-Way Street, with the ability of vector manipulation, capable of controlling the direction of all energy through physical contact, including electrical, thermal, kinetic, and so forth. ℯℯ𝘭.

In other words, even the direction of slashes could be controlled.
