Chapter 865: Chapter 96: Junkyard

”The Bagu you mentioned earlier, tell me more.”

Su Xiao held his gun in one hand, the barrel emitting thin smoke. He had already noticed these people tailing him. As soon as he entered the city, he was aware of them, but he didn’t bother with them. After sleeping for a few hours in the hotel, they were still staking out, which he couldn’t tolerate.

There were only two possibilities: either they sought revenge, or they wanted money. Su Xiao leaned toward the latter.

The gun in Su Xiao’s hand pressed forward, the scorching suppressor resting against the man’s forehead.

Tear~

Smoke wafted up, the smell of burning flesh in the air, and the man on the ground convulsed after his arms had been shot through.

”Bagu is... a drug lord, I’ve heard of him for a long time. Recently, he suddenly appeared in the small town, sweeping away other forces. His... subordinates are very strong, killing without batting an eye, so he quickly took over the small town. That’s all I know, give me a quick end.”

The man knew he wouldn’t live, so he just wanted a swift death.

”Where is his headquarters or base? The scrapyard at the edge of the town?”

”Yes, make it quick, you broke my spine, may you die painfully.”

No wonder the man was eager to die; earlier, a stray bullet had struck his spine. Su Xiao pulled the trigger, and the man on the ground was shot in the head.

Su Xiao rummaged through several corpses and found a few pistols and three grenades. These pistols weren’t in great condition, frequently used and poorly maintained, their performance inferior to the one Su Xiao was holding.

He kept the 9mm caliber bullets and left two grenades, as the remaining one was visibly damaged. Carrying a grenade like that was evidence these guys were definitely desperadoes.

This city was different from what Su Xiao saw two years ago. Back then, despite being a land of no law, desperadoes didn’t ambush people just to rob them inside the small town.

But now, such people were not uncommon in the town. This indicated that Bagu hadn’t ruled here for long and didn’t have time to maintain order.

Under nightfall, Su Xiao drove towards the scrapyard at the town’s edge. The town was small, and he reached the scrapyard quickly.

As he approached the scrapyard, Su Xiao detected a faint sour smell. A chimney rose inside the scrapyard, emitting pale yellow smoke.

There were several guards in front of the scrapyard. All of them were wearing gas masks, some smoking cigarettes, occasionally removing their masks to take a puff.

Seeing these guards, Su Xiao immediately sensed something was off. Their raised muscles were visible on the back of their hands and necks, even slightly deformed, suggesting these weren’t natural and rather resulted from some performance-enhancing drugs with significant side effects.

Su Xiao’s mission was to infiltrate the scrapyard; the location he aimed to reach was inside. After surveying the area, he found at least dozens of guards around the scrapyard.

Not only that, but there was a tall watchtower inside the scrapyard, with dozens of red lasers emitting from it. Su Xiao recognized it as a thermal alert system.

Considering Su Xiao’s current physical attributes, sneaking in covertly seemed unlikely due to the strict security and surveillance.

Su Xiao crept closer to the scrapyard and, after getting nearer, pulled out a grenade, removed the safety pin, and held down the impact lever.

”1.2.3...”

Su Xiao silently counted to three before throwing the grenade, setting it to explode after five seconds.

The dark grenade flew through the air and landed at the feet of five guards, who froze in shock before reacting, but it was too late.

Boom!

Shrapnel flew, turning three guards directly into mincemeat, while the remaining two were blown away by the shockwave.

Soil splattered. Smoke was thicker than the flames.

Seconds after the explosion, alarm sirens blared from inside the scrapyard, as heavily armed guards rushed out. They wore black combat suits and gas masks, resembling an anti-terrorist unit, though their chaotic formation betrayed a lack of systematic training.

Near the explosion’s epicenter, three guards struggled to their feet. Two of them shook their heads, disoriented by the blast, while the remaining one was covered in wounds, blood gushing from his chest cavity.

More astonishing, the two guards in the center of the blast tried to stand but collapsed after a few seconds.

Seeing this, Su Xiao squinted his eyes. There’s no doubt, with ordinary body attributes, their life energy couldn’t be this resilient.

Su Xiao estimated these guards’ physical attributes exceeded five points. In the past, they would be easy to dispatch, but now, such opponents were hard to handle.

”Contractors?”

Surpassing ordinary physical attributes, Su Xiao initially thought of Contractors but quickly dismissed it. Contractors wouldn’t willingly act as minions for any faction, especially not with dozens of guards in a scrapyard.

The guards quickly convened at the explosion site; around twenty gathered swiftly.

Witnessing this, Su Xiao vanished into the night, seizing the opportunity to infiltrate. He needed to quickly reach the designated location and stay there for half an hour. The designated spot was inside the scrapyard.

The scrapyard was filled with blaring alarms, and amidst the chaos, Su Xiao managed to infiltrate.

The scrapyard had a large warehouse at the back, worn and decrepit, with pale light emanating from inside.

Crouching below a window, Su Xiao peered through the grimy glass into the warehouse.

Inside were rows of large machines, covered in dust from long disuse. At the far end of the warehouse, a few guards with rifles stood before a stairway leading underground. Don’t ask Su Xiao how he knew; the decrepit warehouse was only one story, and he didn’t believe the stairs led up to the roof.

Su Xiao leveled his pistol, aiming at a guard’s head.

Thud.

A gunshot echoed, and a guard’s head burst into a spray of blood, causing him to collapse.

”Enemy attack!”

A guard shouted, seeking cover while scanning with an eagle-like gaze. He immediately noticed a hole in the window glass, marking the bullet’s penetration.

The guard lifted his rifle, unloading a volley into the low wall beneath the window.

Bang, bang...

Cement and brick shards flew as the rifle deposited an uneven hole into the low wall.

A burst of rifle fire erupted as the other guards unleashed a barrage on the low wall. In no time, the wall and window shattered into rubble, with cement blocks and glass strewn across the ground.

”Ceasefire!”

The guard who spoke English was evidently different. He was either an ex-soldier or a former mercenary.

With a clatter, glass shattered on the warehouse’s other side, as a round, black ball was tossed inside.

”Grenade!”

The mercenary guard dove away, taking cover in the gaps between two discarded machines.

Boom!

The loud explosion echoed, with several guards directly pierced by shrapnel and several others left stunned.
