Chapter 794: Chapter 25: Team Wipeout

Su Xiao aimed the [Ghost Hunter] at the dwarf lying on the ground, just about to pull the trigger when a familiar sound of breaking void came from above.

Su Xiao, already familiar with the battlefield, didn’t need to look to know what it was. That unique sound must be the ’Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle’.

Indeed, a ’Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle’ the size of a water tank flew in an arc, and judging by Su Xiao’s initial estimation, this thing was likely to crash a few meters away from him.

The power of the green phosphorus fire was well known and indisputable. Moreover, a new wave of tribal army was already surging around Su Xiao. Once the ’Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle’ hit the ground, it would be hard for him to leave the burning area of the green phosphorus fire. Realizing this, he gave up on killing the dwarf lying on the ground and instead aimed the Ghost Hunter at the ’Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle’ mid-air.

The ’Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle’ spun in mid-air, which greatly increased the difficulty of aiming.

”Kill him.”

”Avenge our fallen comrades!”

”Hold him down. The green phosphorus bottle is coming, let’s die together!”

The surrounding beastmen and dwarves lunged forward, their gaze filled with a desire to tear Su Xiao apart.

A dozen or so tribal army members lunged at him, yet Su Xiao maintained his crossbow-aiming posture, his breathing slowed, and the sway of his crossbow’s aim diminished. At this moment, he could only hear his own breathing, ignoring the furious roars of the tribal army.

He pulled the crossbow trigger; the bowstring made a faint sound of breaking through the air, and an energy-constructed crossbow arrow shot out.

The flying speed of the energy crossbow arrow was extremely fast and hit the ’Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle’ precisely in mid-air.

With a cracking sound, the glass bottle shattered, and the green liquid inside splattered in mid-air. The green liquid reacted upon contact with the air, causing green phosphorus fire to appear.

A large area of green phosphorus fire fell among the tribal army, who screamed miserably being burned. The green phosphorus fire was incredibly malicious, not only with high temperature but also with strong adhesiveness. Like the embers dripping from burning plastic, even a small spot of contact with skin could burn a deep hole in the flesh.

Neutralizing the threat of the ’Green Phosphorus Burning Bottle’, Su Xiao put away the [Ghost Hunter], and the Counter Shield spread around. The long knife in his hand sliced through the bodies of several enemies.

Before long, Su Xiao stood on a pile of corpses, overlooking from above.

The surrounding tribal army fearlessly charged up the pile of corpses, displaying an attitude of using the human wave tactic to forcefully take Su Xiao down.

Su Xiao, using the long knife as his primary weapon, was quite suitable for group battles. Coupled with the Counter Shield and Blue Steel Shadow Ability, the human wave tactic couldn’t easily overwhelm him in a short time.

Mana Value and Life Value could recover quickly, but stamina remained a consistent issue.

Su Xiao’s stamina attribute was very high, and he could withstand the siege of the tribal army for a long time without being defeated. However, he wasn’t a machine; he would get tired sooner or later.

Though during the last battle Su Xiao fought from dawn till dusk, back then, he often ’slacked off’ and even played dead to recover stamina.

This time was different. Su Xiao urgently needed battle merit. If he couldn’t obtain sufficient merit this time, the [Holy Oak Tree Trunk] might be exchanged by some adventure group concentrating merits.

Therefore, in this battle, Su Xiao needed to kill with all his might. As the enemy count increased dramatically, his stamina was depleting rapidly.

With a crack, the Counter Shield shattered for the fifth time, but fortunately, Su Xiao’s Mana Value had fully recovered through killing enemies, and a new Counter Shield was immediately generated.

Whoosh～Boom!

Green Phosphorus Burning Bottles, arrow rains, and crossbow arrow cutters occasionally flew across the sky. None of these were easy to handle, as they were all war weapons.

From a bird’s eye view, the Imperial and Tribal armies continued to surge toward the Black Soil Fortress, large batches of soldiers from both sides died, and more surged forward.

The explosions, the wails of the wounded, the war cries echoing to the sky, and the roars of the officers filled the battlefield with chaos. A great number of blood-crazed soldiers even began friendly fire.

At this moment, all soldiers seemed to have gone mad. With the battle reaching this intensity, the war couldn’t be stopped even if the leaders on both sides wanted to. The only outcome possible was one side being pushed out of the Black Soil Fortress, retreating to their territory.

The Imperial Army was fighting to protect their homeland, while the Tribal Army fought for their kind not to go hungry and cold. Both reasons were valid, hence the war wouldn’t stop until one side left a large pile of bodies and retreated, only then would the war end.

In the War World, there were three large battlefield zones. If the danger level of the other two zones was two stars, then the Black Soil Battle Zone was at least five stars.

Relatively speaking, the opportunities for benefits were greater in the Black Soil Battle Zone, with danger and opportunity coexisting.

Of course, not everyone liked such opportunities, like the current Symbiosis League adventure group.

The Symbiosis League was a medium-sized adventure group with 96 members, including the leader, and was of medium size in numbers among medium-sized adventure groups.

The leader of the Symbiosis League, Gessling, had his eyes on the [Holy Oak Tree Trunk]. So, when the war started, he charged toward the Black Soil Fortress with his people.

Upon encountering the tribal army, Gessling realized something was wrong. The enemy’s defense and attack power weren’t comparable to those of the previous battle. As for retreating from the Black Soil Fortress, it was impossible as there were too many friendly soldiers behind them, with Su Xiao’s power attribute, they all got pushed up the Black Soil Fortress.

Facing the tribal army, which had improved several levels in defensive power, attack power, and army quality, an hour into the war, the Symbiosis League’s main tank and two sub-tanks fell, hacked to pieces by over a hundred frenzied beastmen, a special troop type.

An adventure group was a whole, consisting of Contractors specializing in different fields like frontline, control, and fire support. The moment the main tank fell, Gessling was already ashen-faced.

Within just five minutes, the Symbiosis League was scattered by the tribal large army, with their team members dropping from 96 to 17, and still rapidly falling.

Twenty minutes later, the Symbiosis League was annihilated, and their leader Gessling died at the hands of a beastman boss. It was a Minotaur who let Gessling taste the bull’s... not, it was the bull’s horns.

The first adventure group to be wiped out appeared on the battlefield. The Contractors from the Reincarnation Paradise suffered heavy casualties, and it wasn’t much better for those from the Apocalypse Paradise. They were beaten by the Imperial Army to the point of questioning their life choices.

Adventure groups didn’t favor these large-scale battles. They preferred to siege formidable key characters or big bosses, as that was what adventure groups excelled at. After all, with their abilities reasonably matched, most big bosses would fall to their cooperation.

But on the battlefield, such cooperation lost its meaning, as the enemies were simply too numerous, and the more members in an adventure group, the bigger the target, resulting in facing more soldiers. Thus, their advantage became a disadvantage. Of course, if the numbers were the same on both sides, the adventure group would certainly crush the soldiers.

Adventure groups were unsuitable for this kind of battlefield. However, there were those who fit, the Lone Rangers. Most Lone Rangers, even if not developed in multiple attributes, would use skills or equipment to make up for weaknesses, allowing them to have no apparent shortcomings.

Furthermore, Lone Rangers faced far fewer soldiers simultaneously than adventure groups, increasing their chances of surviving the war.

Of course, some adventure groups thrived on the battlefield. They used friendly soldiers as cover, not rushing to the frontline, but doing so yielded fewer benefits than charging forward.

Su Xiao enjoyed challenging battle zones like these. He was already on a killing spree within the tribal army. With every slash, an enemy fell. Standing on a towering pile of corpses, both the Empire officer and the Tribal leader noticed him. Attention from the Empire officer equaled promotion, while attention from the Tribal leader equaled stronger enemies.

Su Xiao leaped off the pile of corpses, breaking through the tribal army in a trail of blood. He didn’t want to be targeted by too strong of an enemy, yet, things didn’t go as planned.
