Reincarnation Paradise Park

Chapter 789: Chapter 20: Not Much Firepower?

Su Xiao’s breathing slowed. Each time he pulled the trigger, a dwarf crossbowman would fall on the fortress half a kilometer away. When he fired the first shot, he discovered that he could earn 60 merit points for each dwarf crossbowman he killed.

How could Su Xiao miss such an opportunity? He didn’t use the special 17.36mm caliber armor-piercing bullets but instead used a type of cheap, inferior bullets. These bullets weren’t expensive, not produced by Reincarnation Paradise, but were forged from Mechanical Street for emergencies.

Each special armor-piercing bullet cost 150 Paradise coins, which was too expensive, while the counterfeit inferior bullets cost 25 Paradise coins each. Although their attack power was only one fifth that of the special armor-piercing bullets, they were enough to kill the dwarf crossbowmen.

On the fortress.

Bam, brain matter splattered. A dwarf crossbowman was headshot, and the headless corpse was knocked back by the bullet’s impact, falling to the ground. The dwarves could no longer laugh.

This was only the beginning. In the next few minutes, more than 50 dwarf crossbowmen were killed. Of course, bullets or long-range attacks from other Contractors also contributed, not just Su Xiao alone.

Although there were many dwarf crossbowmen on the tribal side, they couldn’t withstand such a massacre. It should be known that cultivating a dwarf crossbowman was not cheap. These dwarf crossbowmen weren’t strong in close combat and could only operate the ’City Defender Heavy Crossbow’.

Su Xiao’s sniping of the dwarf crossbowmen eased the pressure on the Imperial side to stack stones, which somewhat surprised Legion Commander Carlos on the battlefield.

The rapid casualties among the dwarf crossbowmen caught the attention of the Mountain Dwarf King on the fortress.

The Mountain Dwarf King looked around at the Imperial Army below. The deafening shouts drowned out the gunfire, and the Mountain Dwarf King couldn’t find Su Xiao’s position.

The Mountain Dwarf King indeed couldn’t find him, but the Contractors of Apocalypse Paradise could. Among them, there were also snipers, and some snipers from both sides had already started shooting at each other.

”Target found, 11 o’clock direction on the hillside. Although the accuracy is good, the sniper rifle’s power seems unimpressive, the barrel is long, just a paper tiger.”

A man with short brown hair, smoking a cigarette, found Su Xiao’s position. He stood on the edge of the city wall, with a one-meter high obsidian low wall in front of him. This was originally to prevent Imperial Soldiers from accidentally falling off the fortress, but now it became the enemy’s shield.

Only his head was exposed from behind the cover, and there were a few teammates by his side.

”Black Gun, find a way to take him out.”

The team leader of the Contractor squad spoke.

”No problem, his firepower level isn’t in the same grade as mine.”

Black Gun took out a heavy sniper rifle, about over a meter long. Although it looked imposing, in comparison to the nearly two meters long Spider Queen, this gun seemed like a ’teenager’ still in middle school. According to the Reincarnation Paradise grading conversion, this was a sniper rifle of Purple Quality with a high rating.

”Enjoying the killing, aren’t you?”

Black Gun spat out the cigarette from his mouth and kissed the sniper rifle in his hand.

Aim, shoot, the actions were seamless. In the chaotic battlefield, it was impossible to perceive this shot unless the opponent specialized in perception skills.

The moment the bullet left the chamber, Black Gun felt that it hit.

On the Imperial side, Su Xiao, who was sniping enemies, felt a sense of crisis looming. However, with soldiers surrounding him, he couldn’t perceive the direction of the attack.

Bam!

A splash of blood, Su Xiao was shot, the bullet hit his thigh. The enemy had originally aimed for his head, but at the critical moment, he rolled half a circle on the ground, avoiding a headshot although the posture was somewhat awkward.

The muscles in Su Xiao’s thigh tensed. The bullet struck deep. If not for his high physical attributes, it would have hit the bone.

He forced the bullet out of the muscle, and the enemy’s second shot came. Su Xiao was already prepared, so how could he be hit again?

Ding!

The bullet hit the energy shield in front of him. Based on the point of impact when the bullet hit the energy shield, Su Xiao determined the enemy’s general direction.

Using the scope to search, Su Xiao found a sniper on the fortress who only exposed his head and gun barrel.

Ding!

Another bullet hit the energy shield. Su Xiao removed the magazine from the Spider Queen, took out a magazine filled with 17.36mm special armor-piercing bullets, and loaded it. He chambered a round, then retracted the energy shield, aimed, and pulled the trigger.

On the fortress, the sniper named Black Gun had already pulled back, hiding behind the obsidian stacked low wall.

Whoosh～

A whistling sound flew past above Black Gun’s head, making him shrink his head in shock, and the nearby teammates instinctively shrank their heads as well.

”Weren’t you confident a moment ago?”

The team leader of the Contractor squad glared at Black Gun. Black Gun said nothing. He felt something was amiss. Although the opponent had indeed been hit by his bullet, the nonchalant attitude was too exaggerated, as if a physical talent had taken the bullet. He glanced at the sniper rifle in his hand, doubting if he was holding a toy gun.

”Not a big problem, this black obsidian wall is very sturdy, bullets can’t...”

Crack!

Black stone fragments flew, the fragments painfully struck Black Gun’s cheek, and a warm liquid splattered on his face.

Black Gun wiped the warm liquid from his face with his hand, it was all red—this was blood!

Thud, a middle-aged man fell at Black Gun’s feet, his body twitched a few times before becoming motionless, almost half of his torso was shattered.

As the middle-aged man fell, everyone behind the stone wall hit the ground.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Three consecutive shots came, shattering the black obsidian wall, with debris flying everywhere, giving a sense of brutality and ferocity.

The team leader of the Contractors glared angrily at Black Gun.

”This is the power you said was not that impressive? You take a shot and let me see.”

Black Smoke was speechless, starting to crawl towards the inner side of the wall. Now, whoever dares to stand up will die.

Su Xiao observed the shattered stone wall through his scope, waiting for the enemy to reveal themselves.

[Tip: Hunter successfully killed an enemy Contractor, earning 3 Reincarnation Paradise Merit points.]

The war had been going on for so long, Su Xiao finally gained Paradise Merit, even though he took a bullet, it was a good start.

Defeating an average-strength enemy Contractor earns 3 Paradise Merits, clearly Reincarnation Paradise encourages friendly Contractors to kill enemy Contractors.

After observing for a while, Su Xiao noticed that those people no longer showed their heads, it seems they were scared by his shots.

Su Xiao swapped his magazine, continuing to snipe the dwarf crossbowmen. Previously, he was sniping with satisfaction, and they just had to provoke him. Wouldn’t it be better to snipe the Empire’s officers at the fortress?

Thinking of the officers, Su Xiao searched on the fortress through his scope, not finding any dwarves that seemed like enemy leaders, but the dwarf holding a small flag atop the wall caught the eye. Other snipers had previously tried to take him down, but unfortunately, there was a transparent barrier around that dwarf, probably an alchemical or magical product.

Su Xiao hesitated for a moment, then loaded three special armor-piercing bullets into the Spider Queen’s chamber, equaling 450 Paradise coins.

Aim, shoot.

Bang!

Before the gunshot echoed, the bullet had already hit the barrier in front of the dwarf flag soldier.

Crack, the transparent barrier showed cracks. The dwarf flag soldier inside was stupefied, likely rattled by the impact.

Bang, bang, bang...

Several gunshots rang out within the Imperial Army, as other snipers tried to reap the rewards. In the early stages of this war, Melee Contractors had been somewhat pitiful, just watching, while long-range attackers raked in a full harvest.

Su Xiao’s bullet cost 150 Paradise coins, why would he let others reap the reward? The second bullet fired before those gunshots rang out.

The transparent barrier was pierced with a palm-sized hole, and the dwarf flag soldier was directly shattered, exploding into minced meat that stuck inside the barrier.

[Tip: Hunter killed an enemy special unit: City Defense Heavy Crossbow Command Flag Soldier, earning 200 battle merits.]

Seeing this tip, Su Xiao raised an eyebrow; the reward seemed comparable to killing an enemy leader.

Unconsciously, the war had raged for half an hour; dwarf crossbowmen atop the fortress fell one batch after another.

Comparatively, the casualties of the dwarf crossbowmen were eclipsed by the staggering number of Imperial Soldiers who had fallen; in about half an hour, at least 60,000 died. Indeed, 60,000, with a single volley from the City Defender Heavy Crossbows claiming one swath of lives, and yet the Imperial Soldiers continued advancing forward.

The Tribe was not solely relying on the ’City Defender Heavy Crossbows’ to kill; Green Phosphorus Burning Bottles and goblin cannonballs were tossed down the fortress as if they cost nothing, turning the area beneath into a sea of green fire. Due to corpses being incinerated, the high slope made up of flesh and stone had lowered somewhat.

Despite heavy casualties, the Imperial Side was not far from breaching the fortress. The high slope was only ten meters from aligning with the fortress.

Once, the Tribal Army had assaulted the fortress like this, and today, the Imperial Side aims to breach using the same method.

However, breaching the fortress does not mean victory; it merely marks the start of the war. On the fortress’s other side, a neatly constructed stone slope had been prepared by the Tribe.

Once both sides of the fortress have stone slopes for support, it will no longer be a siege assault but a high ground battle; whichever side manages to knock the other off will claim ownership of Black Soil Fortress.
