Chapter 782: Chapter 13: Embarrassment

Black Soil Plain, battlefield front line.

Thick black smoke from burning corpses rose like a pillar of demons, reaching into the sky.

Although the battlefield had undergone preliminary treatment, the number of corpses had not decreased much; there were too many corpses, and just sorting them would take a long time.

In front of an iron pot, Su Xiao stirred with a ladle, inside was bubbling seafood soup, a convenient food prepared by Xia, already processed, just needing a little cooking.

The unique umami of seafood wafted around, and nearby human soldiers cast sidelong glances at Su Xiao, swallowing their saliva, but no one dared to ask or snatch.

Su Xiao served himself a large bowl, the seafood soup was smooth and rich, extraordinarily delicious, though he didn’t know what ingredients Xia used, Su Xiao only recognized shrimp tails, clams, and a few others like bean sprouts.

After a large bowl of seafood into his stomach, Su Xiao exhaled a breath of hot air, having killed for a day and night, he finally had some hot food.

Su Xiao served himself another large bowl, at first the taste was only fresh, then there was a strange aroma lingering in his mouth, making him unable to stop eating bowl after bowl.

[You are consuming ’Secret Seafood Soup’, restoring 1 stamina point per second.]

Seeing this prompt, Su Xiao was quite surprised, not expecting it to be a restorative food, and a stamina one at that.

After several large bowls of seafood soup, sweat appeared on Su Xiao’s forehead, and some fatigue seemed to lift.

”What’s that aroma?”

A sturdy man walked up to Su Xiao, dressed in blood-red armor, sitting cross-legged in front of Su Xiao without restraint, with a few sharp-eyed soldiers behind him.

The man took off his helmet, picked up the ladle in the pot, and poured soup into the helmet, quite extravagantly.

”Commander, let me...”

The soldiers behind the man hurriedly stepped forward.

”It’s fine, do you think I would be poisoned?”

The man waved his hand, lifted the helmet, and took several large gulps, smoothing his furrowed brow.

”This deliciousness... did you make it?”

The man smiled, looking at Su Xiao.

”No, the ingredients were prepared by a friend.”

”Oh.”

The man took a few more gulps.

”I saw your performance on the battlefield before, by the way, I’m Carlos, your Legion Commander.”

”Hmm, hello Legion Commander, my name is Bai Ye, Third Class Soldier.”

Su Xiao nodded. Seeing his demeanor, Carlos raised an eyebrow. Typically, soldiers would be fawning and deferential upon meeting him, but Carlos didn’t care about others’ attitudes or race; he only valued ability. Without ability, even the highest status was waste.

”When did you enlist?”

”A few days ago.”

”Why?”

”I’m good at killing, and the army just happens to let me use that talent, so I came.”

Hearing Su Xiao’s reply, Carlos laughed heartily.

”I thought you’d say it was to fight for the Empire.”

Carlos tossed the helmet in his hand back to a soldier behind him, who immediately took out a water bag from his waist, cleaned it, dried it, and respectfully handed it back to Carlos.

Carlos put the helmet back on and stood up.

”From now on, you’re a squad leader, as for the soldiers you’ll oversee, find them yourself. Many disbanded units are on the battlefield, a maximum of 200 people, no poaching, and as for identity proof, we’ll talk after the war.”

With those words, Carlos walked toward the front line. He had just passed by here, drawn by the aroma.

Admittedly, Carlos had a unique charisma personality and was very powerful, Su Xiao sensed he was no match for him.

As soon as Carlos left, Su Xiao received a prompt from Reincarnation Paradise.

[Notice: Hunter has obtained the Dragon Soaring Empire position, current position: Squad Leader.]

[Dragon Soaring Empire military positions: Third Class Soldier, Second level Soldier, First Class Soldier, Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, Company Leader, etc., totaling thirty-six positions.]

[Notice: Since the Hunter has already obtained a position in the Dragon Soaring Empire, battle merit is being calculated...]

[Battle merit will be based on the number of enemies killed, breach of enemy fortifications, killing enemy officers, etc.]

[If an enemy officer is killed, the Hunter can choose between battle merit/Reincarnation Paradise merit.]

[Battle merit calculation completed, current merit: 1436 points.]

[Merit can be exchanged for items at the Quartermaster.]

...

Su Xiao did not kill enemy officers on the battlefield. As for the 1436 points of merit, they came from killing ordinary soldiers.

If Su Xiao guessed right, killing an ordinary soldier yielded about 1 point of merit, meaning he killed over a thousand people in this battle.

This seemed a bit exaggerated, but Su Xiao had used Ring Break countless times before, hacking people until his hands were sore, killing for a full day and night. He usually could take down an ordinary soldier in 1~2 slashes, so this number wasn’t exaggerated.

Moreover, this was while conserving stamina. If he had killed recklessly, the enemy kill count would certainly be higher. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

After cleaning the cooking utensils used, placing them back in storage space, Su Xiao walked to the rear of the Iron-blooded Legion.

Iron-blooded Legion had already set up camp behind the front lines, countless tents came into view, and snoring could be heard from within the tents. The soldiers weren’t made of iron; the surviving soldiers had already fallen into slumber without taking off their armor, always ready for the next fight.

As Su Xiao walked among the tents, he asked several soldiers and learned the location of the Quartermaster. Soon he arrived at the military officer’s tent. Just as he was about to enter, a young man emerged, the two meeting at the entrance.

”You you you you...”

The boy was as if struck by lightning, he recognized Su Xiao because he had bought an item from him, the Minotaur Lord’s Arm Armor.

At the moment, the boy was wrapped in bandages, his little face sallow, obviously not yet recovered from severe injuries.

”Don’t block the door.”

A woman’s voice came from inside the military officer’s tent, and the boy was pushed from behind, stumbling a few steps. A blonde lady with wavy long hair walked out, wearing a tight leather outfit that outlined her figure, with a generously opened chest.

The blonde lady’s hands were clad in black gloves, these gloves had a fleshy feel, like feline paws.

”Oh~” The blonde lady also noticed Su Xiao not far away, for a moment they were caught in a silent gaze, creating a very awkward atmosphere.

”I... almost, died.”

The Minotaur Lord’s Arm Armor appeared in the boy’s hands. He was obviously resentful yet dared not speak up.

”Isn’t it quite nice?”

Su Xiao’s mouth curled up into a mischievous smile, knowing a return was impossible now.

”Well... pretty nice.”

The boy was at a loss for words; it was true. After using the Minotaur Lord’s Arm Armor, he smashed an enemy in front of him with one punch, the surge of power within intoxicating him.

”Nice my foot, how’d you end up like this, forget?”

The blonde lady smacked the boy on the back of his head; the boy grinned sheepishly and said no more.

”I’m his sister.”

The blonde lady appeared calm, as now in this world, there was no potential for enmity between the parties.

”I’m curious, how does one acquire an officer position, even if the rumor claims you’re insanely strong.”

The blonde lady seemed quite interested in Su Xiao.

”Who knows, maybe I’m just lucky.”

”Congratulations then, but we won’t return what we bought. Not to mention the side effects, that arm armor is pretty good, but did you have something to do?”

The blonde lady didn’t want to continue this standoff; now was a time for external wars, infighting was unwise, not to mention it wasn’t possible.

”You’re in the way.”

Su Xiao pointed at the entrance of the tent behind the sister and brother.

”Oh~ it seems so.”

The blonde lady was a bit embarrassed, pulling her brother aside. Though she acted calmly, the palpable stench of blood surrounding Su Xiao didn’t leave her at ease. How many lived had he taken for this aura to form? It was terrifying.
