Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Although Dongfeng was somewhat worried about the legendary Big Camphor Tree Base, wondering if it would really trap them and exploit them as Old Dong said, or even use them as food.

But from the previous information and the details mentioned by Old Dong and others, the Big Camphor Tree Base seemed worth visiting.

So they packed their bags and began to descend the mountain.

........

Meanwhile, a hundred kilometers away from Lu Mountain, at Sanqing Mountain,

Xu Chengcai and his son were also carrying bags, heading down the mountain.

He had no idea what lay ahead on this journey.

But he knew he had to keep moving forward.

.......

The Big Camphor Tree Base.

Since Third Uncle and Old Qin left, Li Yu ordered the construction of the Third Outer City to begin.

Ding Jiu was responsible as the Chief Engineer, with Xiao Qian and Xiao Liu, both civil engineering majors, handling the execution and supervision of the project.

Fu Sheng was in charge of cement production and initially set up construction in the First Outer City with some outer city residents. Later, to save time, the equipment was moved to the Third Outer City site.

Xu Zhen was responsible for planning the drainage channels for the Third Outer City.

Ju Tianrui, Old Luo, and other extra staff were tasked with the actual building work.

......

But before all this, the site for the wall of the Third Outer City had to be cleared.

The fallen trees inside would be dealt with later.

Among the extra staff, Zuo Ruxue, Li Qi, Old Fat Fox, and Yu Ming chose to stay and help.

The small teams from groups six, seven, and eight were busy with tasks, mostly sourcing and bringing back construction materials.

Steel was harder to find, but things like sand and limestone were easier to locate.

Hundreds of cooperative personnel stayed behind as well.

In fact, even more people wanted to stay, but at the moment, such numbers weren’t necessary.

The team involving the likes of Ju Tianrui and Zuo Ruxue already numbered over a hundred, and with the cooperative personnel, it exceeded two hundred.

For building this Third Outer City, manpower was essential, but materials were even more crucial.

This wasn’t like before Doomsday, where you could just pay and have someone deliver them.

During Doomsday, these construction materials had to be found and transported back by themselves.

The Third Outer City’s area was massive, requiring a lot of materials.

Therefore, more people were needed to search for construction materials.

Most of the cooperative personnel went out to find and transport back construction materials.

Noon sunshine.

Li Yu stood on the west wall, watching Ding Jiu on the crane, checking various places.

Zuo Ruxue and others, following commands, cleared mud from the ground, moved stones, and dealt with fallen trees.

Then Ju Tianrui and others drove excavators, starting to dig the wall’s planned area, since excavation had to be finished before laying the foundation.

This was a time-consuming and labor-intensive project.

......

On another front.

The expansion of control over Xin City, and even the entire Gan City, was also underway.

Old Luo took three or four team members, driving an armored RV equipped with a relay station, along with Deng Ben and others, heading towards Xin City.

These days, Old Luo was leading patrols in Xin City.

As they set out, Old Luo requested weapons from the base: automatic rifles, each with five hundred bullets and ten grenades, as well as several sets of combat protective gear.

Li Yu approved and specifically allocated an armored RV to them, reminding them to stay safe.

Everything agreed upon was progressing steadily.

Around the west wall of the Big Camphor Tree Base, Xiao Jun led over twenty people to set up a perimeter alert, to prevent zombies from suddenly breaking into the construction site and injuring people.

Although the chances of zombies appearing in broad daylight were low,

it’s not a hundred percent guarantee; zombies dislike sunlight, but it’s not impossible for them to exist under it.

Occasionally, some zombies might still be encountered.

Especially in places like theirs, with so many people, it was easy to attract zombies.

Thus, alert procedures couldn’t be ignored.

In addition, Li Tie and someone knowledgeable about drones from the outer city launched drones into the sky, patrolling around the west wall and the base surroundings.

If zombies were spotted, they would notify Xiao Jun and others promptly for extermination.

Inside the base’s inner city.

An Ya was teaching people how to nurture seedlings, step by step.

Around An Ya were people like Li Peizhen and Dan Duo.

Dan Duo and a few others were Song Qi’s classmates, saved by Li Yu, including Teacher Liu and several female junior high school students.

Two years had passed by now, making them about high school age.

Xiao Shi, after much learning, had mastered a lot.

He had become An Ya’s right-hand assistant.

Li Yu’s grandpa listened with great interest from the side.

Having farmed all his life, he was experienced and skilled at it.

However, if asked to explain the reasons and logic behind his methods, he couldn’t articulate them.

Hearing An Ya’s detailed and patient guidance at the moment, Li Yu’s grandpa felt he gained a lot.

Occasionally, he would interject with his own insights.

An Ya was sometimes surprised, for Grandpa’s experiences lacked clear logic at times, but experimentation often bore results.

They were surprisingly effective.

This might just be the wisdom of the masses; the real experts indeed walk among the people.

.......

In the inner city, the factory under Second Uncle’s charge also resumed normal operations.

Previously harvested grains had not been processed in time.

They had only undergone simple air drying.

Due to prior days of heavy rain and floods, the factory was temporarily halted.

Operations had now restarted.

Meanwhile, spring had arrived.

It was the breeding season, keeping Zhou Weiguo very busy, as he began asking Bai Jie to prepare medications for pig vaccinations,

to prevent diseases.

Bai Jie felt extremely busy recently.

If not for Ma Di’s help, she thought she couldn’t cope.

More importantly, she felt she was no longer a researcher.

For crop spraying, people sought her help.

She wasn’t an agricultural expert, so she didn’t know what chemicals were needed.

But An Ya understood, and upon providing the chemical names, Bai Jie and Ma Di managed to create the required substances.

If pigs fell ill, requiring injections,

Zhou Weiguo provided the composition of previously used medications, and Bai Jie along with Ma Di began their research.

Bai Jie wasn’t particularly knowledgeable about these matters, but Ma Di was a giant in the pharmaceutical industry.

This kind of work wasn’t difficult for him.

After the storm and floods passed,

everything in the base started returning to normal functioning.

Everyone was busy with their respective tasks.

Li Yu was stationed at the Big Camphor Tree Base, overseeing various affairs, discovering problems here and there, then observing results, leaving the execution to others.

Most of his time was devoted to the construction of the Third Outer City.

For other matters, there were specialized personnel who’ve been handling them for a long time, with basically no mistakes.

This was similar to pre-Doomsday companies, stable personnel handled old projects.

It was time to start new projects, recruit for them, and monitor the initial stages.

Build the framework, establish profit models, set standards....

Once stabilized, a reliable person would be placed in charge, allowing him to step away.

.....

Li Yu sat on the west side of the wall, watching everyone working enthusiastically outside.

He said to Second Uncle beside him: ”Ding Jiu suggested earlier to open a gate here on the west wall and build a walled Weng City between the inner and outer walls. What do you think?”

Second Uncle looked at the base layout map.

Currently, the first and second outer cities both had a walled Weng City between their inner and outer walls.

One of the passages led directly to the first and second outer cities.

Second Uncle hesitated and said: ”I think opening it up is feasible, but my consideration is that Ding Jiu’s layout doesn’t connect the Third Outer City to the first and second outer cities. I still feel it should be opened. However, instead of controlling the gate below the wall, control should be from above the wall.”

Li Yu pondered, slightly conflicted himself.

Connecting all three outer cities might pose some risks,

yet if they weren’t connected, future internal transport would be more cumbersome.

Li Yu suddenly had a bright idea and said: ”Instead of directly opening a gate between the Second Outer City and the Third Outer City, let’s add a corridor adjacent to the inner city wall. This way, transportation flow is possible and control is better.”
