Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

After the torrential rain and flooding, the Cooperative Personnel and Extra Staff emerging from the Big Camphor Tree Base felt as if it were a different day.

The view before them had changed drastically from before they entered the Big Camphor Tree Base.

Large swathes of trees were toppled on the ground, their dried branches and leaves had fallen off, leaving only bare trunks and shattered branches. The fallen trees spread across the area, creating a chaotic scene.

Buildings also couldn’t escape the doomsday disaster.

Traces of soaking from the rain still lingered on the outer walls of the buildings, revealing signs of water erosion.

There were mottled water stains on the walls and damaged tiles blown off by the wind. Some buildings had partly collapsed, leaving behind broken walls and fragmented furniture scattered on the ground.

In this desolate scene, walking along the road, there were no signs of people at the roadside.

Thick layers of dust and weeds accumulated on the road surface, rendering traces of vehicles and humans vanished, leaving only desolation and dead silence.

.......

In the spring of doomsday, amidst the chaotic and barren environment, some life still existed; these isolated lives represented the last hope and persistence on earth.

In the ruins of fallen trees, some resilient plants sprouted fresh green leaves.

They stubbornly emerged from cracks and broken buildings, stretching towards the sunlight. These small and fragile plants were especially precious on the desolate wasteland after doomsday; their vibrant vitality evoked a trace of hope.

Walking along the road, some wild grass gently swayed beneath the feet. The leaves of the wild grass carried a fresh green color, exuding a faint fragrance, bringing a hint of life to the desolate scene.

......

Weng City.

Li Yu, Second Uncle, Uncle, Li Tie, Li Gang, Dapao, Yang Tianlong, and others were in Weng City, bidding farewell to Third Uncle and others.

They were about to search for steel in the Southern area today, after such heavy rain and the flood disaster.

Some steel mills north of Xin City might have been submerged by the flood, and it’s uncertain if there’s still flooding there now.

But the construction of the Third Outer City cannot wait!

Therefore, they needed to traverse Nanling to search for steel mills in Guang Province.

Third Uncle and Old Qin were fully armed, carrying the necessary materials and equipment; the armored vehicle was filled with various items.

Accompanying them were two groups led by Zhu Xiao and Guo Peng. Li Yu also gave Guo Peng and Zhu Xiao each a handgun to handle emergencies.

There were not many bullets, a total of six magazines, three for each person.

Additionally, they were prepared with half a month’s rations.

After all, this task was personally assigned to them by Li Yu, so provisions had to be adequate.

Originally, it would take only five or six hours from Xin City to Guang Province, and if reaching Zhan City, it would need eight or nine hours.

However, after the outbreak of doomsday, nobody maintained the roads; initially, it was fine, but after various natural disasters, many roads became cracked, overgrown with weeds, and debris was everywhere.

Furthermore, some bridges even collapsed, forcing them to take detours.

Moreover, after this heavy rain, there might be landslides blocking the roads; sometimes, clearing them could take most of the day.

The time required to reach Guang Province is impossible to estimate, so they could only prepare conservatively, trying to stock more food as a precaution.

Third Uncle grabbed a bag filled with washed little tomatoes, sitting in the passenger seat of the armored vehicle.

He waved his hand to everyone and said, ”Go get busy, we are heading out now.”

The topics that needed discussing were already covered earlier.

Li Yu said to Third Uncle, ”Third Uncle, we’re waiting for your return.”

Third Uncle didn’t stick his head out of the car window; instead, he waved his hand.

Letting Old Qin start the vehicle, driving outwards from the city.

The group led by Zhu Xiao also drove heavy trucks and off-road vehicles out; given the current road conditions, small cars couldn’t travel outside as their chassis would be wrecked.

The vehicles slowly drove away, while Li Yu and others watched them leave.

Sitting in the vehicle, Third Uncle, without looking back, holding the little tomatoes in his arms, said to Old Qin, ”Old Qin, want some?”

Old Qin, eyes forward, hands on the steering wheel, turned his head, opened his mouth, and said, ”Sure.”

Whoosh—

A little tomato was accurately tossed into Old Qin’s mouth.

......

Old Qin drove the vehicle, munching on small tomatoes, and upon entering the country road, saw many Cooperative Personnel and Extra Staff observing them nearby.

Old Qin asked perplexedly, ”Why aren’t they executing their tasks promptly, hanging around here for what?”

Third Uncle opened the car window, enjoying the wind and the early spring sun, and casually rested one hand on the car door, where a handgun was stored.

Seemingly unintentional, but through Old Qin’s eyes, given his understanding of the captain, if there was any disturbance, the captain could duck and counterattack within less than 0.1 seconds.

Third Uncle said mildly, ”Now, to construct the Third Outer City, we need manpower, so we simply categorized it as a redemption task; as long as someone works, they can earn points and food.”

”Pretty good.” Old Qin remarked, looking at those people along the roadside, recalling his first time arriving at the Big Camphor Tree Base.

He also once hustled for a meal back then.....

Driving the armored vehicle, sceneries passed by as the wind blew.

But upon entering the national highway, their pleasant feeling faded away.
