Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

”Fallen leaves have no roots, a single thread cannot form a line.

There’s nothing to rely on, nor any desire to wander.”

........

Li Yu stood on the balcony, wearing headphones, listening to music downloaded before the Doomsday outbreak.

Listening to this song stirred endless emotions within him.

Leaves returning to their roots, amidst the apocalypse, many people extinguished their humanity, living like Walking Dead, without hope, without goals.

Spirit and body, only the body remains, to keep the body alive, yet the spirit is utterly empty.

In his past life, it was the same.

This is living, but merely living.

Fortunately, rebirth gave him a chance to feel familial love, romantic love, and friendship.

All of this is extremely precious.

.....

The next day, Ding Jiu compiled the materials needed for the expansion of the Third Outer City early in the morning and made multiple copies for everyone.

Li Yu also received a copy.

Meanwhile, Second Uncle and He Chao added these materials to the external cooperation list, updating it and providing it to all Cooperative and Extra Staff.

Upon receiving the new exchange list, these people were eager to leave the Big Camphor Tree Base and go out on missions.

Li Yu, too, on this morning, before announcing that the numerous Extra and Cooperative Personnel could go out on missions, sought out Zhu Xiao and Guo Peng’s two groups of Extra Staff.

Zhu Xiao left a strong impression on Li Yu earlier, a two-meter-tall strong man with formidable combat power, and importantly, a sharp mind.

Guo Peng’s group, as Extra Staff, was among the earliest to join, and based on trust, Li Yu decided to let their group and Zhu Xiao’s group follow Third Uncle to the steel mill in Guang Province.

They comprised about forty people, enough for the two groups.

According to Li Yu’s plan, besides Third Uncle and Old Qin driving an armored RV, the base dispatched ten heavy trucks to accompany them. These ten trucks were controlled by Xiao Hu and Guo Peng’s teams, primarily responsible for the transportation if a steel mill was found.

On the Big Camphor Tree Base’s wall.

Near the western side.

Zhu Xiao and Guo Peng, under the leadership of He Chao and Second Uncle, arrived beside Li Yu.

”Director Li, Guo Peng and his group have arrived.” He Chao noticed Li Yu looking at the forests outside the base and reminded him.

Li Yu withdrew his gaze from the distant hills and turned his head to see Guo Peng and his partner.

Upon Li Yu’s turning around, Guo Peng and his partner quickly greeted him.

”Director Li.”

”Director Li.”

Li Yu nodded slightly and said with a smile, ”I appreciate you. You’ve received the latest material exchange list. Did you notice anything new?”

Guo Peng and Zhu Xiao exchanged glances, a bit puzzled.

In fact, this was the first time Li Yu had called them together individually.

Even when He Chao approached them earlier, other Extra Staff felt puzzled and envious.

Guo Peng, a simple guy, pondered for two seconds and said, ”I noticed that besides some equipment and instruments, the demand for building materials is huge, especially steel... Is there something big happening at the base?”

Li Yu didn’t answer directly; he looked at Guo Peng and asked, ”Your group, now among the Extra staff, was the earliest to join, right? How many points do you have now?”

”79.5 points, Director Li,” Guo Peng replied.

”What about your group, Zhu Xiao?” Li Yu asked Zhu Xiao.

”76 points,” Zhu Xiao responded.

At the Big Camphor Tree Base, in the point system, once Cooperative Personnel reached 60 points and passed the Observer’s review, they could qualify as Extra Staff, receiving minimum monthly assurance.

If Extra Staff undertook missions and met certain criteria — reaching 80 points, cooperating with the base for more than half a year, making substantial contributions, or possessing unique talents highly needed by the base — and passed personal assessments from Li Yu, Second Uncle, and others, they would join the Outer City.

If Outer City personnel accumulated 100 points and made outstanding contributions to the base, following proposals by three or more people, and passing the internal core meeting discussion and voting, they could join the Inner City.

Now Guo Peng, having been an Extra Staff member for over a year since being Cooperative Personnel, was considered quite senior.

At present, his points had reached a critical threshold for entering the Outer City.

However, entering the base wasn’t solely dependent on points. The key question was proving one’s loyalty and ability to the base.

Prove how? By doing something that demonstrates it, but that needs an opportunity.

Upon hearing their group’s point numbers, Li Yu nodded slightly, then said to both, ”There’s a mission I’d like you two groups to undertake. It might be dangerous. Are you willing?”

”We are willing,” Zhu Xiao and Guo Peng responded in unison.

Almost immediately after Li Yu finished speaking, they answered.

And it’s not just because they originally had to perform tasks to offset the excess subsidy food the Big Camphor Tree Base had provided them earlier.

More importantly, they saw it as Li Yu’s high regard and recognition. The entire Extra Staff team usually had mission assignments from He Chao, but now the tasks were directly issued by Director Li.

Thus, they could only prepare well, and perform excellently to leave a good impression in Li Yu’s mind, paving the way to entering the Outer City.
