Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 623: Chapter 528: Researcher Ma Di’s Joining!_2

Later on, when we heard that the military was dispatching someone for protection, they dismissed all of us from the project and let their family members take our places. A bunch of people who don’t understand medicine at all.”

Li Yu let out a long sigh of relief when he heard this.

It’s good that you don’t want to go back; it’s good that you hate them.

Then he asked again, ”Do you remember how many people were in the team that was initially assigned to protect you?”

”Protect us? Haha, are you joking? There was no protection for us, only for those capital tycoons at the top,” Ma Di said sarcastically and then recalled,

”I remember, before the outbreak of the Zombie Tide, there was a team of 500 people. But in that particular Zombie Tide, at least half were lost.

I don’t know how many more were lost after relocating to the Western Alliance.”

Li Yu nodded, thinking to himself that means the team could have at most only a little over two hundred people left.

And what He Chao and the others saw were just dozens of people; it’s unclear whether that was everyone or if that was all of them.

Thinking it over, he then asked, ”Do those soldiers recognize you?”

When Ma Di heard Li Yu ask this, he felt a slight stir in his heart and questioned, ”They’ve shown up? Have they come over here?”

Seeing how quickly Ma Di guessed it, Li Yu inwardly remarked that there’s not a single fool among those who do scientific research.

He didn’t deceive him, but honestly said, ”Our people have discovered them near Xin City.”

Ma Di said with a bitter smile, ”I know what you’re thinking, but it’s useless. They might recognize me, but they just think I’m a minor employee at a pharmaceutical company, nothing important.

The pharmaceutical company has already informed them who the project leaders are, how could they believe me?”

Li Yu inwardly sighed; those pharmaceutical company execs are real bastards.

Pushing the real project owners out because they weren’t protected and eventually dying tragically during the evacuation.

Putting their own family members in place and making them the priority for protection from the start.

Perhaps, among those young people seen by He Chao and his group, some were the children of those pharmaceutical company executives.

Now, the Western Alliance has reached into his territory, and they even injured his people.

This grievance must be addressed.

No, it’s not just a grievance, if he could eliminate them, Li Yu even wished to annihilate them entirely.

An unstable force is most reassuring when wiped out.

But, according to what Yu Lei said back then, those soldiers didn’t want to harm Yu Lei, they even stopped someone from harming Yu Lei.

So for Li Yu, the real enemy should be the higher-ups of the pharmaceutical company.

The best way to deal with them is to let them collapse from within.

Li Yu unlocked Ma Di’s handcuffs and said earnestly:

”I don’t care about the mess those pharmaceutical company dogs have made. Even though you’ve caused the zombie outbreak, it’s a done deal, and blaming you is useless.

According to what you’ve said before, the real culprits aren’t you researchers, but the pharmaceutical company’s execs.

I am only concerned about the present.

You have family, and so do I. I merely want to protect them well.

Now, those from the Western Alliance, along with some soldiers, came to our side, and they even wounded our people.

They are using those soldiers to help them snatch resources.

We don’t want to engage in war with those deceived soldiers, it’s no good for them or for us.

If possible, I hope you can step forward and expose them.”

Ma Di said, ”Ah, didn’t I just tell you? They won’t believe me.”

Li Yu said, ”Whether they believe you is one thing, the question is whether you’re willing to stand with us and explain these matters to them. Of course, we’ll protect you.”

Li Yu’s inquiry wasn’t really about confronting them with the facts; most importantly, he wanted to test Ma Di’s attitude.

After contemplating for a while, Ma Di said, ”I understand you; I can do it. I can talk to them.”

Li Yu’s face broke into a smile, and he extended his right hand.

Ma Di looked into Li Yu’s eyes, hesitated for a moment, and then also reached out his hand.

Li Yu said slowly, ”It’s always better to be alive than dead, even in an apocalypse, but as long as one lives, there is hope.

There’s only one kind of heroism in the world, and that is to still love life after understanding the reality of it.

I hope that you can cheer up and join us.

Continue your research, and I will provide help.

Also, I can give you food and safety.

Are you willing?”

Hearing this, Ma Di was somewhat moved.

In the recent days, someone was always watching him from outside, and they were all different people.

Li Haoran, Li Zhengping, Li Haoxian, Second Uncle, and others, in this post-apocalyptic world, he found that these people weren’t hopeless or pessimistic.

Instead, they had a positive outlook on life, full of good aspirations, which also changed his mood a lot.

When he saw Li Haoran studying mechanical electronics, when he saw Li Zhengping reading a book, when he saw Second Uncle making tea and smoking at the door.

Suddenly, it felt like the apocalypse hadn’t changed them much.

The people here seemed like those from Taoyuan, oblivious to what’s happening outside.

Yet, he knew very well that these people had encountered zombies outside, even green ones.
