System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

September 15th.

Han City, Union Hospital, in a certain laboratory of the Gastroenterology department.

Dong Chang walked out of his office and just happened to run into Mu Nanshu, who was wearing a mask. He was stunned for a moment, then waved: ”Xiao Mu, what are you doing here?”

”Aren’t you?” Dong Chang asked, then realized and laughed: ”Not happy with this blind date again?”

Mu Nanshu looked at the kind-faced Professor Dong Chang, and politely replied, ”Teacher Dong, I have a boyfriend, it’s Teacher Chen who misunderstood and proactively introduced me.”

”She arranged it, so of course, I went to meet the other person, explained things clearly, and we even had a meal together. We might become research partners in the future.”

Dong Chang, about sixty years old, was slim and tall, wore gold-rimmed glasses, his face marred by the passage of time but his bony structure was perfect, and his complexion still charming.

As the head of the Gastroenterology department and the leading figure in the department, Professor Dong Chang’s professional and academic abilities were top-notch nationwide.

The Teacher Chen Mu Nanshu mentioned was another full professor in Dong Chang’s research group, also a rather enthusiastic one.

With his hands behind his back, Dong Chang signaled Mu Nanshu to walk with him, saying, ”Since you already have someone, Chen Bailu was really just pairing people randomly.”

”I remember you said you had someone, in the afternoon Chen Bailu said you went on a blind date, I almost thought I had amnesia.”

”When you have big news, remember to tell me...”

Mu Nanshu, not young anymore, had graduated and was working, likely close to her wedding date.

Mu Nanshu smiled naturally: ”I’ll definitely tell you in person, Teacher Dong!~ I’ll also send you wedding candies in advance.”

Dong Chang laughed heartily: ”Though I can’t have too much candy now, I still want one of your wedding candies, Xiao Mu.”

”By the way, if there’s an opportunity, introduce us. If the person is truly outstanding, well, our Union Hospital is not lacking a platform either...”

Dong Chang immediately started making connections.

In her view, anyone who could catch Mu Nanshu’s eye must be a ’favorite’ in some specialty at another hospital too!

Where they are a favorite doesn’t matter, Union Hospital wouldn’t mind welcoming a few more young talents.

Mu Nanshu also said, ”Sure, Teacher Dong, I’ll definitely invite you to a meal when I get the chance, maybe I’ll need you to put in a good word then.”

”However, his work is not easy to transfer at the moment.”

”Oh, by the way, Professor Dong, regarding the projects Professor Chen assigned me, I might not be able to make time temporarily. During my Ph.D., I already planned my post-work research, and now I need some time to refine the preliminary experiments.”

”But Professor Chen keeps asking me to continue with the projects she gave... this puts me in a bit of a difficult situation,” said Mu Nanshu.

Dong Chang looked at Mu Nanshu seriously, then led her into the office, saying, ”Xiao Mu, now that you’re a full-time researcher, I understand you want to become a clinical doctor.”

”But there’s no rush for that, you should lay a good foundation this year, and complete the proposal next year before starting regulated training.”

”If you jump directly into the clinical project now, it might be a bit of a stretch.”

”The project direction Chen Bailu gave you isn’t simple.”

Mu Nanshu said, ”Teacher Dong, I understand Professor Chen’s high expectations, but I’ve already made my own plans and invested a lot of time into them.”

”In the research group, there are many Ph.D. students waiting for projects...”

Dong Chang said, ”But they might not be able to take up the task? In our group, you’re currently the one most familiar with this direction.”

”Professor Chen’s Ph.D. student has been working on it for two years, with slow progress. Chen Bailu can’t clone herself to oversee it, only by entrusting it to you can the project formally set sail.”

”Xiao Mu, capable people do more work, so don’t refuse.”

”Both Chen Bailu and I studied it seriously before assigning this project to you.”

”Even though you have your ideas, which I also find feasible, your ideas, to put into practice, still require a lot of preparation.”

”Aren’t you not rushing for a moment either?” Dong Chang’s gaze roamed over Mu Nanshu, as if to see through her long dress, directed at her heart.

Mu Nanshu folded her hands at her abdomen, sincerely saying, ”Teacher Dong, I do think I’m a bit anxious. I’ve wanted to do this project for a very, very long time...”

Dong Chang’s expression stiffened a bit, though he looked as elegant as ever, but couldn’t help a trace of displeasure: ”You? An internist? You’ve wanted to do an orthopedic project for a very, very long time?”

”Isn’t this lie a bit ridiculous?”

Mu Nanshu’s expression didn’t change, she said, ”It’s been many years, I thought about it back in undergrad.”

Dong Chang fell silent...

”Teacher Mu, today Teacher Dong seemed a bit upset. Your choice, really, won’t be a problem?” Asked, with some trepidation, Su Xiaoxiao, a Ph.D. student following Mu Nanshu, after glimpsing Dong Chang’s expression as he left.

Mu Nanshu was organizing the information on her desk, as the newly introduced technical director in the lab, her position within the research group was not insignificant.

”Do I have to choose otherwise?”

Su Xiaoxiao, small-statured, about 1.54 meters, with a small face and large, flashing eyes, full of curiosity: ”Teacher Mu, your boyfriend is really lucky.”

”Not only does he have a beautiful girlfriend like you, you’re also so dedicated to arranging papers for him.”

”He wouldn’t be a junior student, right?”

Su Xiaoxiao had heard that top researchers sometimes kept ’cute young ones’!

”Don’t inquire into things you shouldn’t,”

”Are the reports for tomorrow’s project progress ready? Is the draft for the reading material’s PPT report ready?” Mu Nanshu paused, glancing at Su Xiaoxiao.

Su Xiaoxiao immediately lowered her head: ”Teacher Mu, I’m sorry, I’ll go correct it right away.”

The lab, like the operating room, allows for gossip, otherwise the boring lab atmosphere would be hard to dispel.

Su Xiaoxiao continued: ”But quite a few teachers are curious about your boyfriend, they say you made him up, that there’s actually no boyfriend.”

”What benefits did they offer you? Come on, was it bubble tea or hot pot? How many meals?” Mu Nanshu immediately stretched out her hand, demanding a share.

Su Xiaoxiao playfully signaled a cross with her hands.

”I’ll take thirty percent, starting tomorrow,”

Mu Nanshu signaled a three, then said, ”It’s not fake, it’s real, and he’s my elementary, middle, and high school classmate, almost my college classmate.”

”Ah? Childhood sweethearts?” Su Xiaoxiao’s eyes widened.

Mu Nanshu thought for a moment: ”Not really, we met when we were ten...”

”Then why hasn’t he come to see you for so long? Teacher Mu, you’re almost always in the lab, are you in a long-distance relationship?”

Su Xiaoxiao continued: ”But a long-distance relationship to such an extent is a bit much!”

”Whoosh whoosh!~” Mu Nanshu’s phone flashed with a WeChat message notification.

Mu Nanshu glanced at it, her expression changed slightly.

Then she stood up, ”Could you print today’s schedule for me and put it in the folder, there are still unfinished tasks inside, I have to deal with them tomorrow.”

Su Xiaoxiao was puzzled: ”Teacher Mu? Are you leaving?”

It’s only 10 PM now, Mu Nanshu usually goes back at 1 AM. Even on weekends.

”Yes!~” Mu Nanshu laughed, her eyes narrowing into a line like peach blossoms, just as when she received the information that the train had arrived at Jiaxing Station seven or eight years ago.
