System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

August 22nd, July 7th in the lunar calendar, Saturday, good for traveling, cleaning, groundbreaking, planting... and opening a room.

The sky was gray, with a gentle drizzle like a curtain. Lu Cheng, feeling bored while reading in the emergency surgery consultation room, glanced out the window.

Outside the window in the mountains, the view was blurred by fog, with only a few raindrops crystal clear on the pine needles near the window.

Tian Duoduo, appearing at the entrance of the consultation room at some point, smiled and called out, ”Dr. Lu, want to order anything to eat together tonight?”

”Tian Duoduo, it’s surprising to see you on duty today!” Lu Cheng looked her up and down, the wild rose’s appearance making him slightly dazzled.

The loose nurse uniform did not conceal Tian Duoduo’s figure; instead, it added a touch of ”charm.” Her slightly delicate features contrasted with her stunning physique.

Her presence here instead of celebrating the festival was beyond Lu Cheng’s expectations.

”It was supposed to be Yali’s turn, but she went to celebrate the festival, leaving just me and Zhouzhou to hold down the department.”

”Oh, there’s also you, Dr. Lu, and Dr. Du. Dr. Du said he’d have dinner after getting off at 5:30, probably already has plans.”

”As for Brother Zhuang, I’m not planning to call him, probably also had his meal before coming.” Tian Duoduo stated calmly.

On the Qixi Festival, not only did everyone else try to avoid being on duty, but even Professor Chen left for Sha City yesterday afternoon.

Currently, the emergency department doesn’t have many people available.

Single Han Xiaoping just finished his shift yesterday, and Du Daihua would leave after his daytime duty, with the single Brother Da Wu covering the night.

”What do you feel like eating? My treat,” Lu Cheng said with a smile.

”Dr. Lu, we’ll certainly go Dutch. What do you want to eat?”

Tian Duoduo blinked her fox-like eyes casually: ”Zhouzhou’s thinking we could get a clay pot rice or spicy hot pot.”

”I’m good with both; they’re all delivered meals, and I don’t mind spiciness. You two choose,” Lu Cheng quickly replied.

He thought for a moment and realized that in the nearly two months since he came to the emergency department, Tian Duoduo was the only one in the nursing department who rarely asked for food and drink.

Everyone else, including the head nurse, wouldn’t refuse an offer for bubble tea if anyone offered.

”Then let’s go with spicy hot pot. I’ll order a set online and ask the owner to deliver it directly; it’ll be cheaper than ordering online,” Tian Duoduo said with a smile.

”Great, quite cost-effective,” he responded.

”Tian Duoduo, do you guys drink bubble tea or coffee?” Lu Cheng asked casually.

Maintaining good relations with the nurses helps when he occasionally needs to change medical orders; they wouldn’t mind it.

Tian Duoduo replied, ”If you’re thinking of coffee, I’ll have a cup of black coffee, no sugar.”

”Deng Zhouzhou only drinks bubble tea; let her go to ’Sharpshooter’ herself...”

After saying this, Tian Duoduo quickly finished typing a message to the vendor, then put away her phone and asked, ”Dr. Lu, yesterday in the department, what did Professor Chen’s words mean?”

”Why did Professor Chen say you won’t have friends like this? He ran off after saying that. Did you really offend Professor Chen Song somewhere, as Yali analyzed?”

Lu Cheng’s expression tensed up, eyes slightly narrowed: ”Was Yali on duty yesterday in the department? Oh no...”

Yali’s gossip mouth, who knows where this message was spread today and how the rumor has transformed.

Tian Duoduo clasped her hands behind her back, pursed her red lips, glanced around, and said, ”Dr. Lu, if there’s some misunderstanding between you and Professor Chen, maybe it’s better to give him a call to explain.”

Lu Cheng regained his composure, smiling: ”Thanks for your concern, Tian Duoduo, but there’s no misunderstanding between me and Professor Chen. What he said was just a joke.”

Lu Cheng felt awkward pretending in front of Tian Duoduo, admitting that Professor Chen Song’s words were sparked by his ”study efficiency” that questioned his life.

After Professor Tong Yuan’an took tendon suturing back to orthopedics and focused on head surgery teaching, Lu Cheng immersed himself in spleen and gallbladder preservation operations.

Actually, Lu Cheng allocated most of his skill points to the basics, just sparingly to the spleen and gallbladder preservation surgeries...

Both skills reached (10/10 proficiency), yet not specialized. Lu Cheng’s ’ordinary progress speed’ made Professor Chen ’furious,’ as if a cat stepped on its tail, emphasizing repeatedly after leaving the operating room that Lu Cheng would have no friends, no mentors...

”Really?” Tian Duoduo scratched her bangs, slightly puzzled.

Lu Cheng nodded: ”It’s true, otherwise Director Lin and Brother Zeng would have privately talked to me already.”

”No other misunderstandings. Professor Chen and I have a drink planned for tomorrow night to eat dry pot bacon with mushrooms.”

As they talked, Lu Cheng received a phone notification.

Lu Cheng quickly checked his phone; it was from Du Daihua: ”Brother Lu, there’s a tendon rupture case, and although it’s the 22nd, Professor Tong from orthopedics is on vacation.”

”Alright, I’ll be right there.” As Lu Cheng edited his message, he said to Tian Duoduo, ”There’s a tendon repair session coming, you and Xiao Zhou eat first if the food arrives.”

”I’m off to the operation room.”

Tian Duoduo smiled upon hearing this: ”Who’s on surgery backup today? Aren’t you worried they’ll scold you?”

Lu Cheng turned and swiftly went to the computer, printing the standard tendon repair surgery informed consent: ”Today it’s Brother Zhang on backup, if he scolds, nothing can be done. When patients come, surgeries must proceed.”

Doctors can enjoy the Qixi Festival, but for those on duty, even the New Year’s Eve isn’t peaceful, let alone Qixi or any other festival.

As expected, Zhang Tiesheng, who received a call from Lu Cheng, only teased lightly but promised to come immediately.

After choosing to be a doctor, fundamental ethics and norms must be observed, which has nothing to do with connections.

The conversation and signing of papers went smoothly. Even though orthopedics took some tendon surgery cases, tendon ruptures remained primary and the most numerous surgeries handled by the emergency comprehensive department.

Overall, they accounted for about 25% of the emergency department’s performance, all pioneered by Lu Cheng alone.

No matter how unique the situation seemed, Zhang Tiesheng knew he couldn’t skip it.

”Dr. Lu, you seem quite young. Can you really perform this surgery?” the patient’s girlfriend questioned just before entering the operating room.

It was Qixi Festival on a weekend; they planned for a cozy dinner with farm-raised chicken and duck brought from home. But while slaughtering the chicken, a tendon got severed; their delicious home-cooked meal was ruined, and their romantic post-dinner was out of the question.

Zhang Tiesheng arrived at the department and, before changing into his work attire, remarked, ”Skill and age are somewhat related, but not absolutely.”

”In our department, Dr. Lu is a top talent from Han City University, personally recognized by professors at Xiangya Second Hospital as an outstanding genius.”

”If Dr. Lu in our city couldn’t handle a tendon, you might as well go directly to Xiangya, skipping Lianzhou Hospital.”

Zhang Tiesheng gave a ”blunt” assessment, leaving the young couple dumbfounded, staring blankly at Lu Cheng.

”Dr. Zhang is over-praising me. I can perform this, my proficiency is decent, but not as exaggerated as Dr. Zhang said. In the past two months, I’ve done dozens of surgeries, all with good recovery.”

”However, if post-operative recovery is extremely important to you, I suggest transferring to a different hospital,” Lu Cheng replied, modestly declining to hoard surgeries.

In fact, Zhang Tiesheng wasn’t wrong. Based on animal test data, the Tajima Suturing Technique Lu Cheng mastered along with the ’Unnamed Tendon Suturing Technique’ is truly effective, combined with the Cross and Modified Tang Method.

These methods could practically tackle most upper and lower limb tendon injuries.
