System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Dr. Lu, thank you so much... I’ll really be heading back now.” The patient from bed 3 in the ER and their family, after packing their belongings, warmly came to the door of the emergency room, beaming with smiles.

During the hospitalization, even though Lu Cheng was quite ’nagging,’ such enthusiasm, with high-quality surgery, also brought back ’enthusiasm’!

Lu Cheng was still reviewing the fracture classifications of a previous radial head patient, thoroughly checking the relevant materials, afraid of any memory errors.

Just after confirming, Lu Cheng looked up, stood up, and walked out: ”You must refrain from drinking for a while; you can’t drink for at least three months post-surgery.”

The patient was an appendicitis case, and Lu Cheng performed the appendectomy; today is the fourth day post-surgery, and everything has recovered well:

”Otherwise, if you get pancreatitis again, it won’t be a matter that can be resolved in just three to five days.”

The patient was a thirty-nine-year-old middle-aged man, with his wife beside him, pinching his waist fat, reminding him: ”Did you hear that? If you dare to drink again, don’t blame me for smashing your cup in front of your friends.”

The woman was two or three years younger than the middle-aged man, with a slightly out-of-shape figure, average makeup, smiling, ”Dr. Lu, thank you. Rest assured, I’ll keep an eye on him.”

”Oh, by the way, Dr. Lu, Xiao Zhu from bed 5 bought you a bouquet of flowers. We didn’t find you when we went to the office just now.”

Lu Cheng thought for a moment and said, ”Okay... Ah, ma’am, don’t blame me for being talkative, but your toenail fungus should definitely be seen by a qualified dermatologist. I suggest not getting it treated at an external pedicure shop, or you might have to see me for nail extraction next time...”

The woman pondered for a moment, ultimately recalling what she investigated through acquaintances after her husband got injured. Lu Cheng’s medical skills were exceptional, and he repeatedly advised her, so she decided to heed his words.

”Okay, Dr. Lu, I’ll go check it later...”

The couple carried their few belongings and walked out, whispering to each other, with the man’s voice slightly hoarse: ”My uncle said, his friend mentioned Dr. Lu’s skills are quite good, and you should listen, not to your girlfriends...”

Lu Cheng returned to the doctor’s office, barely sat down, and saw Zhu Juan from bed 5 appearing at the office door.

Lu Cheng quickly stood up, smiling: ”Teacher Zhu, good evening, what brings you here?”

Zhu Juan was tall and of average appearance, with shoulder-length short hair, somewhat shy, and a restrained tone: ”Dr. Lu, I’m here to thank you. Thanks to your miraculous hands, I’ve recovered well.”

”Otherwise, if my fingers stayed unresponsive, teaching would have been troublesome...”

Zhu Juan had recently graduated from a teacher’s college and was teaching at Middle School 2, with a formal position. During the summer vacation, she cut her finger while having a barbecue with friends...

Among her friends, one had a brother who had cut his finger before, so the friend had emergency experience, and quickly advised her to bandage it at Renmin Hospital, and then to go to State People’s Hospital, saying the county couldn’t handle it well.

However, after bringing Zhu Juan here, they heard another version, and torn, Zhu Juan decided to have the surgery in the county.

Zhu Juan was five or six years younger than Lu Cheng, and her youthful face displayed a lack of maturity as she sneaked glimpses at Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng saw the orchid bouquet in Zhu Juan’s hand and calmly walked up to take it: ”Thank you, Teacher Zhu, you didn’t have to spend this much, did you?”

”Teacher Zhu, have you had dinner yet?” Lu Cheng quickly asked.

Zhu Juan understood Lu Cheng’s meaning, ”I’ve already eaten, Dr. Lu. This is just a token of appreciation, nothing else.”

”Once I return, there are still many recovery issues I need to consult you on, so I’ll definitely need your guidance more, Dr. Lu.”

”Dr. Lu, truly, thank you.” Zhu Juan quickly waved her hand, refusing Lu Cheng’s invitation for dinner.

Lu Cheng nodded: ”Alright then, thank you too. This is the first time a patient has given me a bouquet.”

”I’ll take it home tomorrow and take good care of it.” Lu Cheng flicked the orchid leaves, feeling cheerful inside.

Sometimes, recognition from patients is the best gift, regardless of how expensive this gift is.

Of course, Lu Cheng did not invite Zhu Juan for dinner or anything afterward.

...

After arranging the orchid, Lu Cheng went to the ward to check on the post-operative patients from today, and to see the recovery of the patient on bed 2 on the fourth day post-surgery.

After confirming everything was normal, Lu Cheng planned to return to the lounge to read for a while.

However, upon exiting the ward, Lu Cheng overheard Tian Zhuang and Tian Hongjian’s phone conversation, where Tian Zhuang said, ”Dr. Tian, we called Dr. Tayama in orthopedics, and he suggested we directly write a hospital admission certificate.”

”Previously, it was always your orthopedics department issuing the admission certificates personally, then I found Dr. Lu. It’s Dr. Lu who said patients might not need hospitalization for surgical treatment, and this is based on condition evaluation.”

”For this shoulder dislocation now, which is something you often handle, why suddenly say you can’t manage it?”

After a while, Tian Zhuang added, ”How is the situation any different? Others had a falling injury, but this patient reported no history of falling trauma, seemingly sprained.”

”Isn’t a woman getting sprained normal?”

Hearing this, Lu Cheng quickly entered the consultation room: ”Brother Zhuang, don’t say that, or the patient might report you.”

A girl, no trauma, sprained, Valentine’s Day, shoulder dislocation. Lu Cheng could imagine the scenario, but Tian Zhuang bluntly put it out without any subtlety.

”Brother Jian!~” Lu Cheng called out with a smile.

Despite being the deputy chief physician of orthopedics, Tian Hongjian was a rather amiable senior, and had been relatively kind to Lu Cheng.

”Lu Cheng, an ER patient came in with a shoulder dislocation, and since it’s a simple case, you can handle it, right?” said Tian Hongjian.

Lu Cheng paused, his expression stiff: ”Brother Jian, aren’t shoulder dislocations handled by our orthopedics?”

”Aren’t you from orthopedics too, Lu Cheng?” said Tian Hongjian with a voice so faint and ethereal it exuded cold aloofness.

”If you really can’t manage, recommend a referral. This patient, we can’t handle.” said Tian Hongjian, business-like.

As the saying goes, ’out of sight, out of mind’. Lu Cheng had no reputation, so he couldn’t claim any hospitality was lost.

Lu Cheng realized that Tian Hongjian was sarcastic about a previous fracture patient Lu Cheng had sent away.

Lu Cheng explained, ”Brother Jian, about that previous patient?”

Tian Hongjian interrupted: ”The previous patient, Xiao Lu, you handled properly. Peng Kun even looked up books and posted in the group.”

”Anyone daring to say you did it wrong, I’d be the first to disagree. It’s just that I’m not good at handling joint dislocation reductions.” Tian Hongjian’s tone was clearly that of a veteran playing the system.

”Xiao Lu, you’ve also been on call in orthopedics, treated such dislocations, so trust you can handle it well.”

Now Lu Cheng understood, Brother Jian wasn’t shirking, but truly wanted to ’disrupt the order’!

”Alright, Brother Jian!~” Lu Cheng agreed.
