System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Hey, who is it?”

After Lu Cheng dialed the number, the voice of the young man from before came from the other end.

Lu Cheng replied, ”Hello, brother. I’m Lu Cheng from the Emergency Department at Long County People’s Hospital. You can call me Dr. Lu.”

”First of all, on behalf of the on-duty doctors in the Emergency Department, I apologize. We really can’t handle your current situation.”

The young man’s tone was sharp: ”What’s the point of calling if you’re useless? I’ve already called a private car.”

Lu Cheng looked at the patient’s ultrasound report, recalled the opinions from the ultrasound department doctor, took a deep breath, and said with a smile, ”Brother, limited ability is limited ability, not necessarily bad skills.”

”Actually, being a doctor is just a profession. If you have good skills, you can work at a better facility. Our skills are shallow, so we’re stuck here in the county to make a living.”

”Not being proficient usually means not working hard enough, but medical skills are something that can only be learned gradually. We’re always trying to improve.”

”At the very least, we’ve learned a little bit, so I’ve worked my way to this position. I sincerely want to give you a suggestion based on what I know.”

”So don’t judge me as impatient, alright?” Lu Cheng’s tone was flattering, even a bit ingratiating.

To be honest, if the other party weren’t in a life-threatening situation, and Lu Cheng didn’t think a few insults were too much, he wouldn’t bother saying these things.

After all, it’s a life at stake.

The young man teased, ”You just want me to call 120 so you can make money, right? Why don’t you just tell me how much I should pay you, and I’ll transfer your share directly?”

Lu Cheng responded, ”Brother, you’re misunderstanding. The current 120 services are mostly outsourced, so it’s the company making money; we don’t get a penny.”

”If you don’t believe me, you can check online.”

”Look, brother, you’ve already cursed enough at the hospital, and the words weren’t pleasant. If anyone less patient heard, they wouldn’t bother contacting you again, right?”

”But anyway, because we know a bit about medicine, we found that your liver cyst is quite large, causing localized swelling of the liver.”

”If you accidentally rupture the localized mass during transit, with potential bleeding and peritonitis, it could be life-threatening.”

”Honestly, brother, it’s not that you’re short on money, but regretting afterward isn’t necessary.”

”Life is more important than money!”

”Calling you again is a sincere suggestion for you to transfer via 120.”

”Transferring via 120 will allow the transport doctors to contact the hospital in advance, letting the Emergency Department and receiving hospital prepare for your safety comprehensively and promptly.”

”Do you think what I’m saying is reasonable?”

Lu Cheng’s words were sincere and not harsh, causing the young man to pause.

He then asked, ”Is my situation really dangerous?”

”It’s fine if it doesn’t rupture, but if it does, it’ll be troublesome. Moreover, the risk of rupture due to the cyst causing edema and hematoma is very high.”

”Our hospital can’t handle this situation not because it’s common but because it’s particularly rare. This isn’t an exaggeration to scare you.”

”Just based on the current situation, we have to give you a relatively better suggestion.”

”You can call 120 yourself! You don’t need to come to our hospital, and we don’t need to take over anything,” Lu Cheng said.

”And if you’re willing to believe that our hospital is a relatively safe place, I’d recommend you wait in our Emergency Department to avoid any accidents, just in case we can offer some help.”

”This process won’t cost you anything; you just need to sit and wait.” Seeing the other party interested, Lu Cheng explained patiently.

The young man said, ”No charge, you promised!~”

He thought about it; the hospital doctors aren’t pursuing his money, seemingly not seeking anything.

”Definitely no charge. We won’t even voluntarily approach you!~” Lu Cheng assured.

Though respecting one’s fate is important, persuading someone in danger of losing their life is crucial.

Lu Cheng has a recording; if he really couldn’t convince him, he has fulfilled his last duty as an Emergency Department doctor.

If he could persuade, it would save the young man from a life-and-death gamble...

In the Emergency Department’s on-call room, after Lu Cheng hung up the phone, Han Xiaoping also finished his phone recording.

After noting the detailed time and place, Han Xiaoping said, ”Brother Lu, it’s just you.”

”If it were me, given his attitude and what he said in the consulting room, I wouldn’t have made the call.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Hey, Brother Han, it’s easy to talk when it didn’t happen to you directly; the patient didn’t directly lash out at me.”

”If I were on duty and got cursed like that, and completely disregarded, I might not have called either.”

”It’s consuming Du Daihua’s emotions, being a foolishly kind person. Brother Han, don’t take it to heart; after all, it’s a life.”

Han Xiaoping thought about it and didn’t genuinely feel Lu Cheng was ’going out of his way’ or intentionally setting a standard.

Fifteen minutes later, the patient’s 120 call arrived.

However, Lu Cheng didn’t really ignore them as the call suggested but took the patient’s medical records and test results to hand over to the doctors traveling with 120.

The accompanying doctors took a look and gasped, ”Wow, such a big cyst?”

”How long did it hurt before coming to the hospital?”

”This is a bit risky...”

The young man didn’t respond but recognized Lu Cheng’s tone, realizing it was Lu Cheng who called him earlier and remembered his eyes.

”Teacher, please pay close attention to this patient, especially their blood pressure and oxygen levels. Before reaching the State People’s Hospital, pre-transfer him as he definitely needs emergency surgery.”

”We really can’t handle it here,” Lu Cheng said, then voluntarily stepped back and closed the door...

About two and a half hours later, when Lu Cheng was ready to leave work, he saw a faint notification.

[Through careful diagnosis of the patient’s condition and patiently persuading the patient to transfer via professional equipment, the probability of hemorrhagic shock and extensive severe peritonitis has been avoided, earning 3.5 Skill Points.]

3.5 points??

Wow, the Skill Points received today weren’t due to advanced technical effort, yet the reward is quite significant!~

Indeed, the clinic is full of treasures, and applied surgical skills aren’t necessarily needed to provide curing and treatment to patients.

Lu Cheng didn’t contribute much technically, but his transfer suggestion was crucial and might save a life, so he accepted the 3.5 Skill Points without any guilt.

Comfortable...
