System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Around 7:40, Brother Zeng led Tian Zhuang out the door, saying, ”Tian Zhuang, don’t worry, that was the apartment my wife and I used to live in. We’ve moved to a new place now.”

”Really, it’s new too.”

”You just need to do a little cleaning and you can live there, but you’ll have to buy your own bedding...”

Tian Zhuang moving to the department because he had nowhere to live wasn’t a big issue, but it wasn’t a long-term solution.

So after Han Xiaoping reported the matter to Director Lin, Brother Zeng became the ’landlord’, driving the ’tenant’ Tian Zhuang around.

No need for a deposit or anything...

Han Xiaoping sipped his coffee while looking around with his square head, saying, ”Actually, Brother Zeng and Brother Zhang aren’t entirely heartless. It’s just that the department’s workload was too small, and learning technical skills was too hard.”

”That’s why they seemed stingy.”

Han Xiaoping didn’t openly say it was about money, but he subtly implied that money could solve many troubles.

Lu Cheng felt a bit tense and looked at Han Xiaoping, ”Brother Han, you won’t get into this messy stuff too, will you?”

Han Xiaoping was stunned for a moment, then immediately said with his square head, ”Brother Lu, if I’ve caused you any trouble, I’ll cut my head off and give it to you to kick!~”

As he said this, Han Xiaoping chuckled, ”If Director Lin hadn’t said I was being too enthusiastic about you, I would’ve treated you like you treat Teacher Chen.”

”Brother Lu, to be honest, teaching someone skills is a great favor, almost like a rebirth, deserving of a shrine.”

Every family altar worships positions of heaven, earth, country, family, and teacher.

A teacher is the one who passes on knowledge and solves doubts.

”That’s not necessary. I’m a bit psychologically scarred, today’s events made it seem like I destroyed Brother Wu’s family harmony,” Lu Cheng said apprehensively.

Han Xiaoping stroked his chin for a while, no longer as indifferent as before, but actively said, ”Actually, Brother Wu’s family’s ’harmony’ should’ve been broken long ago.”

”If it were me in Tian Zhuang’s place, I would’ve rather died than endure until now!”

”But Brother Zhuang’s learning efficiency is really fast! Truly worthy of being from Jilin University.”

This Jilin University is not Jishou City University, but Jilin University.

Tian Zhuang interned at Jilin University Affiliated Bethune Medical College, presumably not pursuing further studies due to family reasons and went directly into residency training.

Tian Zhuang doesn’t have Han Xiaoping’s ’intuition’, began learning the basics of suturing skills later, but progressed faster than Han Xiaoping, and he couldn’t help but be impressed.

Crucially, Tian Zhuang is a full two years younger than Han Xiaoping!

While they were chatting, they heard a roar from outside, ”Try saying that again?”

It was the voice of Du Daihua from the emergency surgical clinic, piercing through the layers of barriers into Lu Cheng and Han Xiaoping’s ears.

Lu Cheng and Han Xiaoping were stunned for a moment, then immediately stood up and rushed outside.

It was Du Daihua on duty in the evening emergency clinic. Du Daihua had always been an ’honest person’, rarely losing his temper, even more patient than Tian Zhuang.

”What if I insult you? It’s your own incompetence, and you won’t allow me to insult you?”

”You’ve been enjoying the state’s meals, and now you refuse to work properly?”

”Everyone, look, this doctor is throwing a tantrum, has no skills, can’t do this, can’t do that, and won’t let people talk...” A tall, strong young man mocked loudly at the surgical clinic’s door.

Du Daihua, short at 1.6 meters, though burly with muscular build, appeared childlike in front of the 1.85 meter tall young man.

”You’re useless, aren’t you? If you were useful, why don’t you treat the patient? What are you yelling here for?” The young man continued to provoke as Du Daihua stopped speaking.

Du Daihua calmed down a bit but was still angry, ”I can’t treat it! In your condition, we can’t handle it at this hospital!~”

”You can go see whichever hospital you want.”

The young man instantly gained confidence, pushing out his chubby belly and swore while walking away, ”The county hospital is filled with doctors like you, who know nothing, can’t answer any question!~”

Seeing the two hadn’t officially clashed, Lu Cheng and Han Xiaoping didn’t approach to escalate the situation.

Du Daihua said, ”Wait a moment, you didn’t take your medical records, and your pain due to the giant liver cyst still needs to be checked in a hospital!~”

”It’s best to quickly go to Ji City for a check-up.”

The young man said, ”Do I need the damn medical records? Can’t I just go there myself?”

”Being a doctor like you, I could do it too. Just say ’I can’t handle your condition, go to a higher-level hospital,’ it’s simple...”

”You don’t like being criticized, lack skills, and yet don’t allow people to talk?”

”Truly, it’s a temperament pampered by the state.”

”If you weren’t a doctor, you’d starve to death sooner or later.” The young man continued cursing, clutching his right upper abdomen.

He saw Lu Cheng and Han Xiaoping and shouted angrily, ”You two don’t just stand there watching, you’re all the same, clueless parasites.”

Though Lu Cheng and Han Xiaoping were innocently implicated, they didn’t argue back.

As Du Daihua explained, the pain was caused by a giant cyst in the liver, and given its size, the county hospital indeed couldn’t handle it.

Lu Cheng cautiously asked, ”Brother? Should we call you an ambulance to transfer you?”

”What ambulance? They’re so expensive!”

”I’ve said it, you doctors have no skills, just focus on taking the little money the people have...”

Lu Cheng signaled to Han Xiaoping to call the safety department and the duty manager to report the incident.

Patients who directly quarrel with doctors in the emergency room are high-risk for medical disputes.

Du Daihua came out, saying, ”Regardless of what you think, we still have to inform you that we can’t handle your condition here.”

”Furthermore, due to the size of the cyst, we advise you to transfer quickly, and by a 120 ambulance, as a rupture could be life-threatening... Please sign...”

The young man, now at the emergency department entrance, swore and walked away, ”I’m not signing... What? You want to force me to sign?”

The young man left.

Only then did Lu Cheng ask Du Daihua, ”What happened?”

”He complained of right upper abdomen pain and wanted me to prescribe painkillers. When I suggested an ultrasound, he objected, but then we found a giant cyst,”

”He wanted me to handle it immediately, and when I said we couldn’t, he got angry and even cursed,” Du Daihua explained.

”It’s as if it were a grave sin that our facility couldn’t handle his cyst, like we were letting down the ancestors.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng immediately said, ”Report the incident to the duty manager quickly and have the emergency room’s surveillance footage secured.”

”Be sure to get the recording.”

”There’s not much we can do with such individuals other than doing our best.”

Du Daihua nodded and sighed, ”That’s how it is.”

Du Daihua continued defensively, ”Brother Lu, we’re all just individuals, right? Do we magically gain divine abilities by putting on white coats?”

”If he’s so amazing, why doesn’t he become a billionaire himself and hire his own medical team?”

”And he questions my being a doctor, what’s wrong with being a small doctor?”

Lu Cheng said, ”Forget it, just focus on your work, and also, extract this patient’s phone number, I’ll try calling him for some consolation.”

”Though he’s wrong, it’s not fatal, and if it is indeed a giant liver cyst, we must ensure proper transfer suggestions!”

Lu Cheng too felt powerless, but he could only do his duty as a ’small doctor’ diligently.

The skills aren’t innate, nor are they acquired upon entering the medical field; they need to be learned bit by bit.

What to do when lacking skills? Do your duty as a small doctor, then invest time and effort to convert this helplessness into capabilities.

Every good doctor progresses this way, making moments of helplessness increasingly rare…
