Bloodline Plant Lord: Rise of the World Sovereign

He waited until Eira was looking the other way.

It wasn’t a challenge. Lyra’s monitors gave off a fake alarm around noon—a blip in spiritual resonance that looked urgent but fizzled out into nothing. While Eira scrambled to the other side of the bay to check the readout, Ren slid his chair into the shadows, leaned back, and shut his eyes.

The Boundless Worldroot remained exactly where he’d left it. Sixty feet of trunk, branches split into green and grey, Kaia’s warmth pulsing through the heartwood. The graft site at the base sat waiting—he felt it like an empty hand, ready to hold something.

He opened his storage and pulled out the first fragment.

Swiftroot cutting. A pencil-thin slice of spirit-plant from the Ashfall Reach, harvested during Cup prep and tagged at ninety-four percent compatibility. Before World Creation, he would have just melted it into his foundation as raw fuel. Standard integration.

This was different. This was grafting.

He pressed the cutting against the Worldroot’s bark and triggered Endless Graft.

The grey current moved first. Cold, sharp Death-law energy flowed from the dormant side of the trunk and bit into the bark—not a wound, but a precise opening. The wood parted cleanly, showing pale heartwood underneath. The cut matched the material perfectly. Like the tree had been measured for this and felt ready.

Then the green current followed. Life-law energy surged from the living side, wrapping around the cutting and the exposed heartwood, pulling them together. The edges sealed. The bark knit shut. The cutting vanished into the trunk like a key turning in a lock. The junction flared green-gold and grey for three seconds before fading back into ordinary wood.

[GRAFT 1 — SWIFTROOT CUTTING. INTEGRATION: SEAMLESS. MATERIAL LOSS: 0%.]

[EFFECT: CULTIVATION ACCELERATION +4%. INNER WORLD GROWTH RATE ENHANCED.]

[WORLD REPAIR: 0.3 SQ MI OF ROUGH GROUND STABILIZED.]

Small numbers. He expected that. Each graft was a permanent gain, not a total rewrite. Four percent faster cultivation. A third of a square mile smoothed from junk ground into a stable foundation. The kind of progress that wins because it piles up, not because of one big spike.

But the physical change hit harder than the screen. The soil near the trunk—the rough, jagged ground that had been raw since the forced breakthrough—was different. Smoother. Denser. The Planar Energy flowing through it moved with less friction, like water finding a freshly cleared path.

’That’s one.’

The second graft went faster.

Not because the system changed—Death to cut, Life to seal—but because his hands knew the rhythm. The Worldroot knew it, too. The graft site opened before he even pressed the material to the bark, the trunk anticipating the join the way a muscle anticipates a familiar weight.

Vitality moss, A thick, spongy fragment of regeneration herb that Selene had grabbed from the Alliance supply chain during his second month at Orien. Dense restoration properties. The kind of stuff that heals other plants just by being nearby.

Grey carved. Green sealed. The moss disappeared into the heartwood. This time, the glow didn’t just sit at the junction; it pulsed outward through the roots. Kaia hummed. The warmth swept through twelve square miles, and the soil responded. The thin, ragged patches at the edges—where the forced breakthrough had done the most damage—thickened. Settled. As if the world had taken a deep breath and finally felt comfortable.

[GRAFT 2 — VITALITY MOSS. INTEGRATION: SEAMLESS. MATERIAL LOSS: 0%.]

[EFFECT: WORLD REGENERATION +6%. PLANAR INTAKE EFFICIENCY +1.2%.]

[WORLD REPAIR: 0.8 SQ MI STABILIZED. CUMULATIVE: 1.1 SQ MI.]

The efficiency climbed. Thirty-four percent to thirty-five-point-two. Not a leap—just a nudge. But the stuttering Planar intake that had been the loudest symptom of the forced breakthrough was stuttering less. The world’s engine had found a higher gear, and Ren could feel the difference, like a bumpy road smoothing out under his tires.

Kaia sent a wave of warmth through the bond. Satisfaction. The feeling of dry ground finally getting a drink.

The third graft was different.

Grey-veined law crystal. A dense, palm-sized stone from the Ashfall Reach’s deepest layer, tagged at eighty-seven percent compatibility—lower than the others, but with a note the System added during the Cup: LAW-TRACE DETECTED. MINOR DEATH-LAW RESONANCE.

He pressed it to the bark and felt the Worldroot hesitate. The grey current moved first, but slower. It was tasting the material, finding the Death-law trace inside and measuring it against its own flow. The cut was careful. Intentional. The exposed heartwood glowed cold grey, not pale, and when the green current rushed in to seal the join, it had to put in the work. The material was stubborn. The edges resisted for half a second before they finally held.

The junction burned for six seconds instead of three. When the light died, Ren felt a shift deep in his head. Not a leap. More like a lens clicking into focus. The Death-law felt a bit clearer than it had a minute ago.

[GRAFT 3 — GREY-VEINED LAW CRYSTAL. INTEGRATION: SUCCESSFUL. MATERIAL LOSS: 2.1%.]

[EFFECT: DEATH-LAW COMPREHENSION +0.4%. DUAL-LAW CYCLE EFFICIENCY +0.2%.]

[WORLD REPAIR: 0.4 SQ MI STABILIZED. CUMULATIVE: 1.5 SQ MI.]

Two-point-one percent material loss. The first graft that wasn’t perfectly clean, and the reason was obvious. Lower compatibility meant the rootstock had to strain, and straining costs energy. Better materials mean cleaner grafts. Lower compatibility still works, but you pay for it in the margins.

The comprehension gain was tiny. Point-four percent. But that was the kind of gain that usually took weeks of stiff meditation, and he’d done it in six seconds by grafting a rock into a tree.

’Three grafts,’ Ren thought. ’One and a half square miles fixed. Cultivation four percent faster. Comprehension a little sharper. And seven fragments still in the bag.’

He stepped back and looked at the Worldroot.

Three grafts were buried in its bark now—invisible, sealed into the heartwood, feeding the tree, feeding the world. The trunk hadn’t grown. The branches looked the same. But the ground around the base was smoother than it had been that morning, and the Planar Energy cycling through the roots moved with less resistance. One and a half square miles of rough world turned into solid ground. Efficiency up from thirty-four to thirty-five-point-two percent. Small gains, but they were his to keep.

The endless engine had started to turn.

He opened his eyes. Eira was still hovering at Lyra’s station. Kaelen was asleep sitting up, which was either a gift or a problem. Yuelan was reading on a borrowed datapad. Cassian was watching the hallway from his corner.

Selene was standing by the window. She hadn’t been there when he closed his eyes.

”You were gone for twenty minutes,” she said. Arms crossed, jaw still bandaged from the fight.

”Inner world maintenance.”

”Is that what we’re calling it now?”

She didn’t push. She never pushed on the things that actually mattered—she just watched, noted, and waited for the answer to arrive on its own. Funny. That was Kaia’s entire playbook, too.

”I’m fine,” Ren said. ”The world’s a little less rough than it was.”

”How much less?”

”One and a half square miles.”

She held his gaze for a beat. Then the nod—the one that said ’I don’t fully get it, but I’m writing it down.’ She turned back to the window.

Inside the twelve square miles, the Boundless Worldroot held three new grafts and waited for the next one. The engine was turning. The repair had started. Seven fragments sat in storage, each one a smoothed edge, a small gain, a world becoming what it should have been.

’Seven more,’ Ren thought. ’And then whatever I find next.’
