The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 899: Chapter 899: We Must Take Back First Place This Year

Caryn Zachmann was unbearably agitated, her fingertips sliding over the group messages, and watching the group go silent after Govert Griffin’s message made her feel awkward.

And that wasn’t all. While those people didn’t dare to send messages in the group, they had sought her out privately without reservation.

Her WhatsApp was constantly buzzing with new message alerts.

[Caryn, what’s going on? Your cousin’s graduation banquet seems so grand, you never mentioned this to us.]

[Caryn, what’s the story with your cousin? You previously told me she came from McKinney, and I thought she was just an ordinary student, but it turns out she is this year’s national Top Scholar in College Entrance Examination, she must have secured a spot in Tsinghua University, right? Impressive, your family is full of academic prodigies.]

[Ms. Zachmann, for this afternoon’s get-together, why not bring your little cousin along to introduce her to everyone? I heard she’s a prodigy and it would be good to look after her in Beijing.]

...

Every single one was roundabout in probing about Nathalie Quinlan, almost desperately clawing for any detail about her background.

Some were even more direct, outright saying they had bought congratulatory Gifts, wondering if it was convenient to drop by the Imperial Hotel for a meal.

It was just short of writing ”ingratiation” on their foreheads!

Reading these, Caryn Zachmann felt her blood turn to ice, a lump seemed to form in her chest and abdomen, something she couldn’t swallow or spit out, stuck in her throat, as if blisters were about to form from the irritation.

Nathalie Quinlan.

Nathalie Quinlan.

Nathalie Quinlan.

She opened each WhatsApp Message, and it was all about those two names, everyone asking about Nathalie Quinlan’s background, and why so many people attended Nathalie Quinlan’s graduation banquet...

Caryn Zachmann felt dizzy staring at the screen, clenching her Phone, taking a while to recover her senses, unsure how to respond to all these messages.

She hadn’t the slightest idea what was going on at the Imperial Hotel.

Why people like Mr. Yancey had gone to the meal.

What was even more laughable was that such a significant family event arose, yet neither her grandfather nor her father had called her to come home.

Her mother did make a phone call though, also furiously upset, mentioning to her how when people like Sadam Vinson arrived, her mother didn’t even greet them, a clear lack of respect...

Caryn Zachmann was completely at a loss on how to console her own mother since even she herself was still unclear about what had happened.

Her phone kept ringing with calls and WhatsApp messages, overwhelmed and frustrated, she turned the device off, pursed her lips, and absentmindedly prepared to head back.

Just then, Adelle Wafford entered from outside, holding a Document, and upon seeing her, a rare smile broke on her stern face, looking quite pleased. She approached, clapped her hands to get everyone’s attention.

When everyone gathered around, Adelle Wafford finally presented the Information she brought: ”The date for this year’s Medical Knowledge Competition has been set, it will be next week, hosted by the Medical Association in Beijing. As usual, Medical Departments from major universities will send participants, and on top of that, top international medical schools will also send their students.”

”This competition has always been won by domestic participants every year. But since a medical prodigy appeared from abroad three years ago, we have been placed second. The directive from the top this year is clear: we must reclaim the first place and cannot let it go overseas again, otherwise our domestic field of medicine won’t be able to lift its head high.”

This competition had a significant international reputation, and Caryn Zachmann had heard about it more than once; it was a contest of medical knowledge. To make a comparison, the format of the competition was very similar to mathematical Olympiads.
