Urban All-Round Master

Chapter 136: Chapter 135: Is He Still a Father?

Chapter 135: Is This Even How to Be a Father?

Listening to old man Nangong’s words, even Lin Zifeng, casually sipping his wine, almost spat it out. Do I look like a good kid with the way I’m acting now? This old man is seriously stretching the truth!

What’s worse, he’s deceitfully playing the innocent to fool these two clueless women.

No matter how he explains it, the two women are dead set against believing him. Lin Zifeng, a good kid? He doesn’t look like one at all, no matter which way you slice it.

”Uh... Huahua, Bingbing, I think there’s definitely a misunderstanding between you two. A misunderstanding. Just sit for a bit, and I’ll have a talk with him.”

Nangong Shui had a look of kindly affection, just like an old servant, but in Lin Zifeng’s eyes, it felt disgustingly cloying.

This old guy is absolutely not the simple, honest man he appears to be. How could someone who has expanded Tianyu Group’s power and influence overseas, and who also holds the seat of CEO of the top economic council in Southeast Asia, be so simple and honest? Others might not understand him, but does Lin Zifeng not know him well?

”What’s there to talk about? We’re not familiar with him. He’s just a petty bodyguard, what is there to discuss with him?”

Nangong Bing sat quietly on the sofa, her fair and cold face devoid of expression. Because this detestable guy was brought in by her father and, due to a series of mishaps, ended up being her fiancé. Heaven knows what other nonsense her father will come up with, so she might as well wait and see what he’s really up to.

But Hua Buqi was different. She disliked this guy to the very core, so much so that just the sight of him made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

She had thought that her disrespectful uncle would dislike this guy just as much, yet, contrary to her expectations, he actually valued him greatly, even praising him as a good kid. What sort of logic is this? Even if you’re playing the family card, as an uncle, you should be on my side. But now, you’re actually helping an outsider.

Watching these three converse back and forth, Lin Zifeng was playing his best trick—feigning innocence. Drinking XO, he stared blankly at the sofa, looking as innocent as he possibly could, like a lost youth needing redemption.

The more he put on this innocent act, the angrier Hua Buqi got. If it weren’t for Nangong Shui being there today, just based on the way he’s playing innocent, she would definitely come up with a good way to deal with him. Of all things to pretend, pretending to be innocent in front of her, as if we’re always bullying him.

”Kid, come upstairs with me.”

Nangong Shui’s coaxing techniques were definitely top-notch, especially when it came to acting pitiful in front of them—he was simply unbeatable.

Lin Zifeng helplessly shrugged his shoulders and squeezed his eyebrows at Hua Buqi, who was glaring at him with indignant eyes as if to signal his kindness, nearly infuriating the young lady to the point of throwing a fruit knife from the table at him.

After following Nangong Shui to the second-floor study, Lin Zifeng said languidly, ”Look, Nangong old man, what exactly are you trying to pull here? Your daughter is way too difficult to handle. I’m not up for this job. I think it’s best if we just call off the engagement. At the rate it’s going, I, a second-generation rich kid, probably can’t reach your lofty standards anyway.”

”Come on! Let’s talk this over slowly, don’t keep saying you’re unworthy. If it weren’t for your father’s generous help back in the day, where would I, Nangong Shui, be today? Therefore, I must repay this debt of gratitude, and you absolutely mustn’t let these small setbacks defeat you. Knowing you as I do, what’s a little difficulty?”

Downstairs, they each played the part of the innocent and the pitiable, but now in the study, they acted like old friends who hadn’t seen each other in years. Although Nangong Shui was significantly older than Lin Zifeng, there wasn’t a trace of respect in the way Lin addressed him, calling him ”Nangong old man” with no regard for seniority whatsoever.

What’s more infuriating is that this Nangong old man made it all sound so peculiar. Is your daughter not valuable? I’m telling you I don’t want her, yet you insist on pushing her onto me. Do you really think she wouldn’t be able to marry if it’s not to me, Lin Zifeng?

”Enough already, Nangong old man. On behalf of my parents, I’d like to express their regards to you. But as for your precious daughter, I’m honestly not blessed enough to deserve her. Please, don’t bother with the trouble anymore. It’d be better if she and I just said goodbye. Now that you’re here, let’s just clear things up, shall we?”

Lin Zifeng didn’t care for much. Now that Nangong Shui was there, it was the perfect opportunity to clarify things. Since Nangong Bing found him disagreeable from every angle, well then, let’s cancel the engagement. After all, he couldn’t attend to such a demanding miss, so it would be better if her father took care of the cancellation.

”Young man, what are you even saying? Look at our Bingbing. She’s got the figure, the looks, and most importantly, she’s incredibly wealthy. Where else are you going to find such a ’white rich beauty’? Are you aware of how many suitors are following her? Even if you’re not thinking for yourself, you should consider your parents. Do you know how happy they were when this marriage was arranged? Your mother was so moved she cried; the tears fell like rain. If you back out now, how can you live up to the expectations of our older generation?”

At this point, Nangong Shui switched his tactics and beguilingly added, ”Even if Bingbing doesn’t know any better, just indulge her a bit more. She likes it when people compliment her. As for women, you should just shower them with praise, relentlessly praise them, and go along with whatever they want to hear. Keep it up until she’s utterly bamboozled and eventually they come running to you. Then you hold firm, stay strong, and in the end, she’ll be like a lost lamb, ready to be led by you. Trust me, just praise her, that’s all she wants. She thinks she’s so high and mighty with extensive insights, but really, she knows nothing. I believe with your skills, you won’t have any trouble winning Bingbing over.”

In saying so, he didn’t forget to give Lin Zifeng a knowing look.

His attitude was like that of a street vendor at an outdoor market – what kind of father was this, teaching someone else how to woo his daughter? Was he really her father or did he pick her up from a vegetable market as a child, or maybe found her abandoned by the roadside?

”Nangong old man, I gotta say, there’s something off about the vibe of your words. What kind of father advises someone to woo his daughter with such lowly tricks? Are you ’feeling kittenish’, or did you get your head stuck in a door on your way here?”

Looking at the old guy, shamelessly thicker-skinned than even Lin Zifeng, Lin doubted his own ears for a moment. What kind of father does this?
