Chapter 113: Taxi Beauty

After Lin Zifeng got dressed, he ignored her and went straight outside. He simply bought some breakfast; indeed, a hard-working night had made him quite hungry.

But soon after he started eating, Nangong Bing called again, demanding he return within ten minutes!

Lin Zifeng had no choice, for it took at least half an hour from there to Tianyu Group! Besides, it was only eight o’clock in the morning. Even if he didn’t take the bus and took a taxi instead, it would probably still take a long time.

After breakfast, Lin Zifeng lit a cigarette and lazily stood at the bus stop waiting. The bus stop was also filled with many workers; some were holding children, some were fashionably dressed—especially during this rush hour, there were all sorts of people.

Since the buses were scheduled, and especially in Zhonghai City where buses only ran at specific times, he had waited for ten minutes and had already smoked two cigarettes, yet he saw no sign of any buses.

Finally, when a bus arrived, Lin Zifeng gulped as he saw faces inside packed tight like Zhu Bajie; could he even board this bus? From here to Tianyu, it would take at least an hour and a half, considering Tianyu Group was in the city center!

Lin Zifeng helplessly shook his head. After all, Lady Nangong was so urgently summoning him, the company must have really run into some trouble. But just as Lin Zifeng was about to get on, he heard a child’s cry from behind him. A young mother holding a toddler stood behind him. She was holding her work clothes, not yet dressed in them, clearly a migrant worker; she looked barely in her early twenties. Maybe it was due to family reasons, she had no choice but to work to earn money, and her pink clothing still bore milk stains from her child’s recent feeding.

Lin Zifeng gave a bitter smile. He was about to get on the bus but promptly got off and let the young mother board first. Indeed, people like her deserved respect; without them, where would urbanization be?

”Thank you.”

The young mother, quite attractive and well-formed but slightly dark-skinned, perhaps a testament to her years of labor in the city.

Seeing the young mother’s radiant smile, Lin Zifeng responded with a smile. Then, he conscientiously stood back on the platform, waiting for the next bus. When people on the bus, which had seemed as twisted as a pretzel, saw Lin Zifeng give up his spot for the young mother, they shifted to make space for her.

Everyone’s gaze fell unintentionally on Lin Zifeng, who casually continued smoking at the bus stop. Everyone felt mixed emotions; even in this age of overwhelming materialism and stress, there were still good people like Lin Zifeng around.

People inwardly gave Lin Zifeng a thumbs-up, acknowledging his manliness and character.

As the bus moved away, many women waved and gave Lin Zifeng a thumbs-up as a sign of respect.

However, Lin Zifeng acted as if nothing had happened, as if that little act had nothing to do with him at all, as if he hadn’t even been there.

Life isn’t easy for farmers, especially those working in the cities. Despite the various subway and bus incidents reported about migrant workers in recent years, how many people are actually willing to lend a helping hand?

As Lin Zifeng was feeling utterly bored, he fished in his pocket and inadvertently pulled out a black taxi business card.

Looking at the card in his hand, Lin Zifeng chuckled ruefully. This was from the last time he came to Tianyu Group, when he couldn’t find the address and ended up hailing a taxi, only to be mistaken for a delinquent. What followed was somewhat laughable.

Lin Zifeng must have thought that after that incident, the girl would hate him to death!

Just when Lin Zifeng was completely bored, a taxi slowly made its way through the traffic and soon stopped in front of him, revealing a lightly made-up face with a black pair of sunglasses, yet her innocent visage bore a hint of the melancholy pressed upon her by life.

”Handsome! Need a ride?”

This was a typical taxi-cab solicitation.

Lin Zifeng, with his sharp eyesight and quick reflexes, immediately recognized the woman! He quickly turned his whole body away, not daring to face her.

How could this be such a coincidence? He had just thought of her, and here she was! Could it be? Could the world really hold such coincidences? Could it truly be that enemies often cross each other’s paths?

After Lin Zifeng turned away, his eyes darted around several times. He truly hadn’t expected to see, standing right before him, the beautiful taxi driver from his last visit to the Tianyu Group! Wasn’t this just too much of a coincidence? Speak of the devil, and he shall appear?

”Handsome, I see you’re probably rushing to work. The last bus to the city just left; if you keep waiting, you’ll miss your important affair! How about it? You take my car, and I’ll give you a discount, how does that sound?”

Su Yueying patiently took off her sunglasses, knowing full well that with the current high fuel prices, not picking up some fares would mean she might end up only being able to ’drink the northwest wind’ at the end of the month.

Now that she had encountered a customer, she thought she might as well try to pick up the fare. After all, the market wasn’t great, and holding on to the money was the best strategy for them.

Besides living expenses, she sent all her other earnings home. Adding the monthly car maintenance and toll fees, the costs were frighteningly high. Getting a customer was always better than being without any in the early morning.

Seeing that Lin Zifeng was still turning his back on her, Su Yueying didn’t seem angry but instead leaned her lightly made-up head out of the window, still with a welcoming smile.

”Why, handsome, what’s wrong? Don’t you want to get in? Don’t worry, we are all here to work, and I will give you a fair price.”

But no matter how nicely she spoke, Lin Zifeng simply wouldn’t turn around and continued to have his head turned away from her.

Why is this woman so annoying! I’m already ignoring her, but why is she still pestering me? Could she really be that desperate for money?

It was already close to 8:30 in the morning, with cars passing to and fro on the street and hardly anyone around. Wanting to earn a little extra for her younger siblings’ education fees, Su Yueying still hadn’t given up on Lin Zifeng as a customer. What made Su Yueying more concerned was that Lin Zifeng was still turning his back to her. Could it be possible to see a ghost in broad daylight?

What puzzled Su Yueying even more was that Lin Zifeng didn’t even glance back once, as if he were truly frightened.
