Chapter 106: I’m Not Well Read, Don’t Trick Me

”What are you saying, you beast?” Hua Buqi recalled the miserable face Ye Wudao had just pulled, which was even uglier than crying, and her face was still brimming with joy, completely oblivious to the fact that she was still holding onto Lin Zifeng’s arm.

What mattered more was that she hadn’t completely heard what Lin Zifeng had said earlier about settling the bill.

Yet, Meng Youjing was much more experienced, immediately discerning Lin Zifeng’s intention.

She quickly glared at Hua Buqi, coughing twice as a reminder.

But Hua Buqi still seemed to be basking in her joy, except Lin Zifeng’s sharp gaze was fixated on her, which suddenly made Hua Buqi’s face flush with a coy anger.

”Ah!”

The girl pushed Lin Zifeng away like a startled little rabbit.

”Uncle! Are you taking advantage of me again?”

Me, damn it! When did I take advantage of you? I just kindly reminded you, but you seem to have gotten addicted to rubbing against me, haven’t you? And now you blame me?

Lin Zifeng was also quite frustrated.

However, he soon chuckled and said, ”Huahua, with all this rubbing and cuddling, you’ve been taking quite a bit of advantage of me! Shouldn’t you, you know... show some gratitude? I helped you out just now,

Hehe, shouldn’t it be time to settle the bill?” Saying this, Lin Zifeng deliberately made a greedy gesture, rubbing his thumbs together.

”I...!”

Hua Buqi and Meng Youjing were somewhat dumbfounded. Is, is this guy sick? Just a moment ago, they were thinking about his gallant demeanor in the private room, how cool and dashing he was, but now he’s actually asking them to settle the bill with him? Moreover, he had taken advantage of Huahua,

and now he has the nerve to ask Huahua to pay him? Did this guy get his head caught in a door when he left the house?

”You...!”

Huahua’s face turned red with anger, unable to believe that she hadn’t minded, but this piece of work was even more concerned about it! What a beast he is!

”What? Have I made a mess by helping you? You girls asked me to come here and play the rich guy. Now that work’s over, shouldn’t you pay me something? I still have to go to the bar tonight and pick up girls, hehe.”

At this moment, Lin Zifeng was nothing like his former self—a complete ruffian straight out of the streets.

Especially those dark, restless eyes that kept scanning the girl’s thighs several times, and that wasn’t enough, his gaze moved to Meng Youjing’s chest.

This shameless behavior infuriated both women.

”Humph! Beast, and to think I thought you were a decent person just now. Turns out, you’re just a leech!”

Hua Buqi was both angry and resentful, wondering why this guy couldn’t be a bit more serious.

If he could just be a little serious, he would actually be quite attractive—like he was in the private room earlier, looking handsome and overwhelming.

But once he stepped outside, it’s as if he became a completely different person, right?

”Huahua, I’ve come from so far to help you out and got you out of trouble. You’ve got to, you know, show something for it, right? What do you say, Assistant Meng?”

”Err... How about dinner tonight as a thank-you?”

Meng Youjing seemed somewhat disheartened.

”Sure, we’ll treat you to a meal if that’s what it takes.”

”Err...!”

Lin Zifeng suddenly dropped his smile and put on a sullen face, saying, ”Huahua, how do you still not understand what I mean?”

”What? What more do you want? I’m offering to take you to dinner, isn’t that enough for you? It’s just a tiny bit of help I needed, you really expect some sort of repayment for that? Besides, Lei Feng did so many good deeds and helped others without expecting anything in return. You helped with a small matter and expect something in return?”

Hua Buqi couldn’t bother with him anymore and, hands on hips, tilted her head to argue with Lin Zifeng.

”Lei Feng?” Lin Zifeng was taken aback. Why does everyone like to compare things with Lei Feng nowadays?

”Huahua, you’ve got it all wrong. Who does things without expecting anything in return these days? And besides, missing a chance to make money is for fools! Even Lei Feng kept a diary of his good deeds, and he wrote them down clearly,”

”Are you afraid others won’t notice or what? And besides, look at me! I’m just a little security guard, earning a meager salary of a few thousand yuan. You’re not trying to scam me, are you?”

Lin Zifeng said with a cigarette in his mouth and a wicked smile, his face twisting into a very odd expression.

Scam you? What a joke! I, Hua Buqi, scam the money of an unscrupulous beast like you? Hmph! You really underestimate me, Hua Buqi. It’s just money, right? Since you want money, here you go!

It’s no big deal. I was just thinking about how nice you were being, and I hadn’t expected that as soon as we stepped outside, you’d start asking for your pay! With just a wave of my finger, do you know how many people would line up begging me? And you’re talking about scamming you?

Hua Buqi laughed, and Meng Youjing was dumbfounded.

This guy really is one of a kind!

Just the mention of money, and his eyes nearly lit up, and now he wants to go flirting too?

”Hmph! It’s just money, is it? Fine! I’ll give it to you, you beast,”

Hua Buqi patted her evening gown, only to find that it didn’t have any pockets. She then shot Lin Zifeng a weird look and pouted, ”It’s just money. Sister Meng can give it to him.”

Unfortunately, where would Meng Youjing have money on her at this time of night? Both of them had come in makeup and evening gowns, with no pockets on them whatsoever, not to mention carrying a purse.

Since Mr. Ye Wudao was treating them to dinner, how could he ever let them pay? So, both of them had come out practically empty-handed.

”Huahua...”

The usually articulate Meng Youjing suddenly found herself struggling to speak, stumbling over her words.

”No way! You two didn’t bring any money? Ah! It looks like I won’t get my pay after all. Forget it, forget it, let it be. I, Lin Zifeng, am not that kind of person. If there’s no money, then just forget about it,”

Lin Zifeng said while smoking, chuckling with a feigned look of shock.

”Who says we don’t have money?”

Hua Buqi pouted, looking bewilderedly at Meng Youjing, who responded with a bitter face that seemed to confirm she indeed didn’t have any money on her.

”That... um, can we...?”

Hua Buqi’s face turned red.

”I knew you didn’t have money, but you know, I, Lin Zifeng, have always had a pretty good style. Forget it, forget it, if there’s no money, that’s that.”

”Don’t worry, I, Hua Buqi, never leave a debt unpaid, hmph! I’ll definitely pay you back when I get home!”

”Really?” Lin Zifeng asked doubtfully.

”Would I still deceive you?”

Hua Buqi’s face was so embarrassed it seemed ready to drip, her petite mouth pouted, looking indignantly at Lin Zifeng.

She was this close to going berserk on this infuriating guy.

”Eh... You deceive me often, don’t you? Last time with that horse riding dance, you still haven’t given it to me straight! I’m not very well-read, don’t fool me anymore.”

Lin Zifeng muttered under his breath.

”Right, right! Well then, let’s just account for it all later. I’m not going back tonight; you two head on home.”

Lin Zifeng laughed softly.

”How annoying!”

Hua Buqi glared at him fiercely before turning her head and walking away without another word.

After they left, Lin Zifeng took his time disappearing into the night, his poker face as cold as ice making another appearance.

His eyes were deep and world-weary, as if he had just been through a battle.

Especially the dispirited aura emanating from his body, as if he had just recovered from a serious illness.

In fact, he knew very well that with his parents having disappeared for five years without a trace, and even more crucially, whether he would live or die in the future was still an unknown,

He had no intention of getting entangled with these women,

Once deep in love, escape would be as hard as escaping the sea. Besides, he had nothing to offer them. And who knows if he would still be alive when tomorrow’s sun rose? It was better to be someone they despised; that was better for him, and even better for them.

Looking up at the pitch-black sky, Lin Zifeng felt a weight on his heart, and touching the black bracelet on his wrist, he murmured, ”Old man, don’t worry, I’ll save you....”
