After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 415: Chapter 418: A World of Two People [1]

Jiao Yang passed her a tissue, ”Did I say something wrong again?”

”This...” Luo Xiaoqian finally managed to stop laughing, ”Is this what your Chinese teacher taught you?”

”No, I just overheard two people talking about it when I was parking just now.”

”No wonder!” Luo Xiaoqian wiped the juice stain from the corner of her mouth, ”The correct saying should be ’a friend’s wife must not be encroached upon,’ where the wife in ’friend’s wife’ is the wife as in spouse. And the latter part is not ’you’re welcome,’ but the ’must not’ of ’cannot,’ and ’encroach’ refers to bullying or deceiving. This saying has roughly two meanings. The first is that, since you are good friends, you should be sincere towards your friend’s spouse, just like you would treat a friend. The second meaning is that you should not harbor inappropriate thoughts towards your good friend’s loved one. Here, ’loved one’ doesn’t necessarily mean spouse; it could also refer to a girlfriend, or a girl that your friend likes.”

”So that’s how it is.” Jiao Yang nodded, ”But why, why can’t you have inappropriate thoughts about a friend’s loved one? Doesn’t everyone have the right to love another person?”

Luo Xiaoqian laughed, ”That’s probably where Eastern and Western cultures differ. In China, it’s generally considered immoral to covet a friend’s loved one.”

Jiao Yang sat up straight, ”Personally, I think what’s most important is who this ’wife’ truly loves, right?”

Luo Xiaoqian thought for a while, ”What you said isn’t without reason.”

”So that means...” Jiao Yang’s eyes shone with a hint of brightness, ”you agree with my view?”

”I haven’t given it serious thought,” Luo Xiaoqian put down the tissue she was holding, ”But if my friend and I both fell in love with the same man, I think I might give up first.”

”But what if that man likes you?” Jiao Yang asked.

”That...” Luo Xiaoqian hesitated.

In her heart, she secretly hypothesized, if Xu Xia also liked Leng Zimo, would she let go?

The answer was no, because she knew that Leng Zimo loved her, she would definitely not give up.

”How about it, you wouldn’t bear to let go either, right?” Jiao Yang pressed.

Luo Xiaoqian nodded slightly, her tone unavoidably melancholic, ”However, if that really was the case, I suppose that friendship would be impossible to keep.”

It naturally hurt to lose a lover, but losing a friend was painful too, wasn’t it?!

She shook her head lightly, pulling herself out of the melancholic emotions, and picked up her chopsticks to help Jiao Yang take some vegetables from the pot, ”Anyway, we’re not in that situation, so why worry about it? Let’s eat, the vegetables are getting overcooked.”

Jiao Yang extended his plate to receive the vegetables she picked up, ”No matter what you decide, in any case, if she’s the woman I truly want, I will not give up until the very last moment!”

”Really?” Luo Xiaoqian heard him speak so earnestly for the first time. She put down her chopsticks, turned to look at him, and chuckled slyly, ”You haven’t actually fallen for your good friend’s girlfriend, have you?”

”She can’t really be considered a good friend, maybe not even a friend at all. But, that girl is indeed special, very outstanding. Of all the women I’ve known, this is the first time I really want a woman.” Jiao Yang smiled as he looked at her, ”Tell me, should I give up?”

”You’re asking me?” Luo Xiaoqian shook her head, ”I don’t know. But are you sure it’s not just a momentary whim? Mr. Playboy?!”
