After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 383: Chapter 384: Love’s Imaginary Enemy

Who could this ”friend” he mentioned be, to matter so much to him?!

...

...

Back at World City, sitting on the living room sofa, Luo Xiaoqian pulled out the two postcards from her bag and placed them side by side.

”That guy has a girlfriend now...”

Xu Xiaoyang’s voice rang in her ears like a curse, making her heart grow increasingly anxious.

She walked into the music room, sat on the piano stool but had no heart to play, walked back to the living room to turn on the TV, but she didn’t catch a word of what was being said. She repeatedly checked her phone for calls from Leng Zimo, but there were none.

She entered the digits of that all-too-familiar number one by one, yet she no longer had the courage to press the call button. Flustered, she tossed the phone on the table and picked up the remote to switch the channel aimlessly.

The commercial switched to a drama.

It was a romance series, and it so happened to show the female lead realizing the male lead was with another girl and learning that he had a fiancée chosen by his family.

Watching the girl cry and leave, Luo Xiaoqian also furrowed her brow.

Could she be facing such a melodramatic situation, too?

No, impossible!

Leng Zimo would never lie to her.

She was certain of that.

But what if...?

Leng Zimo wouldn’t lie to her, but such things were not beyond the realm of possibility.

His family background was complex, and in such families, weren’t political or arranged marriages common? Could his strained relationship with his father be related to this?

Luo Xiaoqian grew more frightened the more she thought about it!

Just as she was letting her imagination run wild with dramatic scenarios, the phone on the table suddenly rang.

It startled her, and it took a moment before she grabbed the phone and saw ”Big Fool” on the screen; she immediately slid to answer the call.

”Zimo?!”

”What’s wrong?”

Hearing the disquiet in her voice, Leng Zimo asked with some concern.

”Nothing.” Luo Xiaoqian gripped the phone in both hands, trying to sound calm, ”Have you... picked up the person yet?”

”I’ll be downstairs in five minutes. Get ready to come down, and we’ll go have dinner together. I also want to introduce you to a new friend,” Leng Zimo said casually.

A new friend?!

Luo Xiaoqian clutched her phone nervously, ”Is it a woman?”

Right then, there was some static on the line, and Leng Zimo didn’t catch her question, ”What did you say?”

”Nothing, nothing, I’m coming down right away, see you in a bit.”

Luo Xiaoqian hung up and put the phone into her bag, turned off the TV, picked up her own bag, and she strode toward the entrance. After a few steps, she suddenly stopped and looked down at herself.

Jeans, T-shirt, flat canvas shoes... Her outfit was the epitome of simplicity.

She bit her lip, turned and ran upstairs, hastily opening her wardrobe, sifting through choices until she settled on a light-colored semi-formal dress to put on. She brushed her hair carefully, and looking at her plain face, she ended up at the vanity, taking out her makeup bag and starting to apply makeup.

If it weren’t for performances, she usually did not wear makeup, but this time was different.

She quickly finished her makeup, grabbed a matching clutch and rushed downstairs. Standing in the hallway and looking at the canvas shoes on the shoe rack, she frowned again, then turned to go upstairs, rummaged through the shoe cabinet, and chose a pair of seven-inch pale pink crystal sandals.
