I Am Your Natural Enemy

Previously, Wen Yan thought there might be a sorcerer’s involvement, assuming it was just one person.

It was likely that the opponent had used some means to bring in something or cast spells remotely.

After all, the probability of such people passing through customs smoothly is extremely low.

Later, after the Scorching Sun Department dug out a few more traitors, they found that the actual details of each traitor were different from the Nanwu County situation, but the nature and methods were similar.

Combined with previous information, they speculated there might be more than one, so they made a list.

Feng Yao mentioned that according to the records, the sorcerers in Nanyang don’t even hide or obscure themselves, and he didn’t really feel much about it.

In Europa, some up-to-date witches even have their own websites.

His earlier assumptions were about this extent.

He never expected this kind of non-concealment to be such blatant lawlessness, reaching this level of brazenness in Nanyang.

After arriving in the Southern Sea, Long Blade Floating Ghost mentioned that they had also gathered some non-Divine Land water ghosts, so Wen Yan casually asked if anyone knew about it.

Unexpectedly, there was indeed someone, and it turned out to be someone who had been taken out.

Truly, it confirmed that old saying, relying on the mountain to bury it, relying on the sea to fill it, a classic yet convenient way to handle things.

Wen Yan asked Chen Jiuming to first talk about his affairs while he was alive.

It was mostly the same as what Long Blade Floating Ghost said, the usual story of the innocent man holding a treasure, except for one detail that Chen Jiuming explained more clearly.

”My great-grandfather actually ventured out to the sea, made some money, and left us a path.

Back in the Haidong Prefecture, many people went to sea, and it remains the same today.

When my grandfather went to Nanyang, he sold almost everything he brought as capital.

It finally came to my generation, and I wasn’t very successful, failing in whatever I tried, and the local environment wasn’t favorable either.

I was ready to sell the last two items and venture to the Divine Land for a try.

But the problem lay in these two items.

A black iron token and a gold coin, both antiques.

The gold coin didn’t seem to matter, as its origin couldn’t be traced, and no one recognized the symbols on it, so I planned to sell it for some money.

The black iron token, according to my grandfather, was something Sanbao Gong left behind back in the day.

If things got tough here one day, it was meant to be sold and used to go somewhere else.

I was incompetent, had little ability, and liked to tinker around, failing at everything, so I had to sell it.

The price they offered was too low, so I wanted to raise it, but didn’t realize they never intended to pay.

I figured out they were after these two items, I didn’t care about the money anymore.

I only realized at the moment of my death, from the moment they knew I had this thing, I was doomed.

They didn’t want to pay, just to eliminate evidence, they didn’t believe in leaving living witnesses.”

After listening to Chen Jiuming, Wen Yan had no impression of the token or anything like it.

Honestly, if he hadn’t learned from his past mistakes and researched information about this place beforehand, he wouldn’t even know who Sanbao Gong was.

Wen Yan studied Chen Jiuming, who wasn’t killed by a blade, the true cause was drowning, otherwise, he wouldn’t have become a water ghost.

Adding the keyword ”gold coin.”

He took out his phone and brought up a photo, showing both sides of a gold coin with a ruler beside it for scale.

”Is the gold coin you mentioned like this one?”

”It does look similar, and the size is about the same, but the symbols on it aren’t like this.”

”Ah, understood.”

Wen Yan pondered, was Chen Jiuming a victim of the gold coin’s curse?

It probably was, a result of multiple reasons.

In this place filled with islands, the chances of someone with a cursed coin not entering the sea are slim.

”How did your grandfather and father die?”

”My grandfather was caught in a storm while at sea, was tossed overboard, and completely disappeared. My father capsized, and by the time he was found, he was already dead.”

”Did they have that gold coin with them when it happened?”

Chen Jiuming was startled.

”Yes, my grandfather was taking the coin to have it appraised at the time, and my father had it on him as well.”

Wen Yan understood, three generations drowned, it seems the curse’s power is quite potent, but it doesn’t take effect immediately, it’s likely triggered when carried or with the owner on a boat.

He currently held three gold coins, two from spoils, and Old Meng gave him one, and he didn’t know why this crafty merchant hadn’t succumbed to the curse.

Perhaps this guy identified the problem and found a way to avoid it.

”What does the token look like?”

”It’s round overall, dark in color, with cloud patterns on it, and has engraved writing on the front.”

”Alright, continue with the sorcerer story.”

”When my son was hospitalized, I met a family member of someone who also had a child with a blood disease.

Initially, I didn’t realize, my son was harmed by a sorcerer.

Until he told me about these things, I found out the sorcerer legends were real.

He said his child was harmed by the sorcerer.

He had consulted the sorcerer, and the sorcerer told him he had offended someone to death, and that person sought revenge on him.

The other side paid a great price, even willing to exchange a life for a life, to kill his child and make his life miserable.

What happened afterward, I don’t know, he immigrated, taking the child to Europa.”
