Although Chen Fei had been measured in his actions, he certainly hadn’t shown that bastard Wang Yifa any mercy. It was unclear whether it was a bone in an arm, a leg, or somewhere else, but one was definitely broken, causing Wang Yifa to howl in pain.

Seeing this, the expression of Du Yuanbing, the chief of the West City Police Station in Chengyang County, darkened visibly, becoming as black as the bottom of a pot and deathly sullen. After all, he was a deputy department-level chief of a county police station, yet Chen Fei had dared to strike someone right in front of him. It was a blatant show of disrespect, completely ignoring his authority.

Moreover, the person who had been beaten was Wang Yifa, the brother-in-law of Liu Guangrong, the Chengyang County Party Secretary. If Secretary Liu found out that his brother-in-law had been beaten right in front of the police station chief, he would be furious. He wouldn’t let it go, and he certainly wouldn’t swallow this insult.

This behavior was highly provocative, both toward him as the chief of the West City Police Station and toward Secretary Liu. It was a serious challenge to their authority as officials. So, even though their side was clearly in the wrong, and it was Wang Yifa who had tried to strike first only to be casually sent flying by Chen Fei, they would certainly choose to turn a blind eye to that. Instead, they would arrest this troublemaker, Chen Fei, who dared to challenge their authority, and ”bring him to justice”!

With that thought, Du Yuanbing stepped forward with a murderous glint in his eyes. He cut an imposing figure as he glared at Chen Fei and barked, ”How insolent! Where did this troublemaker crawl out from? In broad daylight, in front of everyone, you dare to assault someone right in front of me, the police station chief! Do you have any idea that’s a crime?”

”A crime?” Chen Fei’s lips curled into a disdainful sneer. ”Then may I ask our respected police station chief, did you not see that he tried to hit me first? I was merely defending myself. What crime have I committed?”

A mere county-level police station chief? As if he, Chen Fei, would take someone like that seriously.

”Shut up! Who gave you permission to argue?” Du Yuanbing retorted, a mocking, self-righteous sneer on his face. ”Who’s the station chief here, you or me? I clearly saw you committing violence. How dare you argue? Furthermore, our on-site investigation indicates that you and this Yi Shu are suspected of disturbing the public order by participating in the malicious attack on the Sheng’an Real Estate Company. For such a serious crime, we are legally required to arrest you. You can state your objections when we get to the Xicheng Police Station!”

Obviously, in his view, Chen Fei was just like Yi Shu—a brainless brute who only knew how to act recklessly. To be so insolent in front of him, Du Yuanbing, the chief of the West City Police Station, this kid must have a death wish! So once they got him to the Xicheng Police Station, to his turf, he could deal with him however he pleased. Heh, the fool was practically begging to die!

Lying on the ground and wailing in agony, Wang Yifa felt a wave of relief wash over him. He stared at Chen Fei and laughed arrogantly, his face a mask of malice that was just begging to be punched. ”You little brat, did you hear that? You’ve committed a crime! You’d better surrender quietly and let the police arrest you. If you dare resist, it’s an even greater crime! I’d like to see if you have the guts for that, hahaha…”

”Xiaofei… what do we do?” Yi Shu whispered, a familiar sense of panic rising in his heart as he witnessed the scene unfold. Although he had a temper and was full of spirit, he was ultimately just an ordinary person. When faced with powerful people who bullied others, he couldn’t help but feel an innate sense of inferiority and fear. It was unavoidable.

And now, Chen Fei was in deep trouble. He had even beaten up Wang Yifa, Secretary Liu Guangrong’s brother-in-law. Now they were going to be arrested and dragged to the Xicheng Police Station under this pretext. What… what were they going to do?

”Don’t worry, Brother Yi Shu. It’s nothing,” Chen Fei said, his voice surprisingly calm as he smiled reassuringly.

”This damn kid…”

Seeing Chen Fei still smiling and acting so nonchalant in the face of such a dire situation, even saying it was ”nothing,” infuriated both Wang Yifa and Du Yuanbing to their breaking point. This was utter contempt; he wasn’t taking either of them seriously.

Though seething with a ferocious rage, Wang Yifa still didn’t want to lose ’face.’ He painfully raised a hand, pointed at Chen Fei’s nose, and mocked, ”Nothing? You still have the nerve to say it’s nothing? Are you sick in the head, hahaha…”

Chen Fei interrupted his laughter with a contemptuous sneer. ”I think if you don’t want another kick from me, you’d better shut your mouth. What do you say?”

”You, you…” Wang Yifa stammered, infuriated by Chen Fei’s arrogance. But the next moment, his gaze met Chen Fei’s cold eyes, and an involuntary shudder ran through him. A chill went down his spine as he recalled being sent flying by that one kick, and his lips trembled, too scared to utter another word.

Trash! Du Yuanbing cursed inwardly at Wang Yifa’s pathetic display. His expression quickly darkened as he sneered sinisterly, ”How dare you threaten the victim right in front of me, Du Yuanbing, the chief of the West City Police Station? You’ve got some nerve! What are you all standing around for? On my authority as the chief, I order you to apprehend these two criminals immediately! Move!”

The junior officers had been ready to move when Wang Yifa was shouting, but Chen Fei’s brazen actions had stunned them into inaction. Now, with their direct superior barking orders, they snapped to attention and menacingly took out their handcuffs to make the arrest.

”What’s going on? What are you all doing here?”

But before they could handcuff Chen Fei and Yi Shu, a voice full of authority suddenly boomed from the company’s main entrance.

A middle-aged man in a police uniform entered. He was in his forties, with partially graying hair and a penetrating gaze. He was accompanied by several people: a few muscular, stoic-faced police officers and some well-dressed, scholarly-looking civil servants.

”Director Wang? Zhou Fuju?” Upon recognizing two of the newcomers, Du Yuanbing instantly broke out in a cold sweat. He trembled as he stammered out their names.

The partially gray-haired man was none other than Wang Ye, the Director of the Chengyang County Public Security Bureau. The other was Zhou Xuanzheng, the Deputy Director of the Chengyang County Labor Bureau. The remaining officers were clearly from the County Public Security Bureau!

”Yuanbing, is that you? What’s happened here?” Director Wang Ye of the County Public Security Bureau spoke with immense authority as soon as he entered, his sharp gaze sweeping over everyone present. He exerted an immense pressure, as if everyone there was his subordinate.

But if anyone had dared to scrutinize his eyes closely, they would have noticed that Director Wang Ye’s gaze was also filled with obvious panic and nervousness. Clearly, his appearance here was no coincidence, nor was the fact that a Deputy Director of the Labor Bureau was with him. They had obviously been sent by some ’big shot.’

”Uh, well, there was a disturbance here,” Du Yuanbing said, forcing a calm smile and a warm tone. ”Director Wang, Deputy Director Zhou, what brings you two here?” As the saying goes, those with a guilty conscience fear a knock at the door, and that was exactly how he felt now.

”We just happened to be passing by,” Deputy Director Zhou Xuanzheng suddenly spoke up, pointing a finger at the security guards with their intimidating arm tattoos. ”Chief Du, when you say ’disturbance,’ I assume you mean them?”

Obviously, people like that were bad news. If there was a disturbance, it must have been them.

”In that case, what are you waiting for? Arrest them!” Director Wang Ye’s eyes flashed as he barked the order in a powerful voice.

The officers from the West City Police Station hesitated. They knew what was really going on. But this order was from the highest authority in the Chengyang County public security system—the Director of the County Public Security Bureau himself. How could they, mere grunts, dare to disobey?

As for the officers from the County Public Security Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Brigade who had come with Director Wang, they moved to make the arrests without a second’s hesitation, causing the expressions of the tough-looking security guards to change in fear.

”President Wang! We…”

”No, Director Wang, Director Zhou, you’ve got the wrong people!” Wang Yifa cried out, overwhelmed as he struggled to his feet. ”These are my company’s security guards! These two are the ones who came to cause trouble!”

”Who are you?” Wang Ye glanced at him, his expression frosty and his tone detached.

”My name is Wang Yifa! This Sheng’an Real Estate Company is mine. These men are the security guards I hired. They—those two—are the troublemakers! Director Wang, Director Zhou, you have to help me! Quickly, arrest these two who have no respect for the law!” Wang Yifa began by explaining but ended by putting on a pitiful, distressed act.

After all, Chen Fei had genuinely broken one of his bones, so he was indeed in a pitiful and disheveled state.
