The next day, Tongzhou City’s Car No. 1 was speeding along the highway toward the airport.

The driver was Dong Wencheng’s secretary, a middle-aged man named Shen Kai. He had a constant, friendly smile that made him seem very approachable.

This was happening because Chen Fei considered Elder Dong’s matter resolved. With nothing else to do in Tongzhou City, he decided he might as well return to Northern Mountain. After all, that was his home turf and far more familiar.

”Mr. Chen, Dong Wencheng asked me to apologize to you. There’s an important meeting in the city that he really can’t get away from, so…” At that moment, Shen Kai, secretary to the top leader of Tongzhou City, spoke softly to Chen Fei, his voice tinged with reverence.

To be honest, as the secretary to the top leader of Jiangnan Province’s capital city, he, Shen Kai, considered himself worldly and experienced. But right now, his head was still spinning as if he were in a dream.

Dong Wencheng, the parental official to millions in Tongzhou City, had actually made a special call just to have him apologize because he couldn’t personally see a young man off at the airport. This practically shattered the worldview Shen Kai had built over many years in politics.

”Uncle Shen, you’re being too kind. There’s nothing to apologize for…” Chen Fei said with a surprised smile. Suddenly, the phone in his bag started ringing.

He glanced at the caller ID and couldn’t help but look astonished. This is… The call was from Murong Shan. Come to think of it, he hadn’t seen her in a long time, not since the Saint Laurent Group incident, and they had barely kept in touch by phone. After a moment of surprise, he answered the call.

”Hello, is this Mr. Chen? It’s me, Little Fatty, Murong Shan’s classmate. You should still remember me, right? From the banquet.” The voice on the other end was unfamiliar. Little Fatty? The name conjured a vague image in Chen Fei’s mind.

”Of course, I remember. But Little Fatty, isn’t this Murong Shan’s phone? What’s wrong? You sound really anxious. Did something happen?” Chen Fei couldn’t help but furrow his brow upon hearing the obvious urgency in the man’s voice.

Could something have happened to him?

”Um, it’s like this. I wanted to ask if you know anyone in Tongzhou City. Our class president got into a car accident, and now they’re taking her to the traffic police brigade. Can you help?” Little Fatty blurted out as soon as Chen Fei asked.

”A car accident? Don’t panic, speak slowly. What exactly happened? Is Murong Shan okay? Whose fault was it? Where are you now?” Hearing it was a traffic accident made Chen Fei anxious too, but he forced himself to be patient and urged the other man to explain clearly.

”Mr. Chen, I swear, this wasn’t our fault. Just now, the class president and I were heading to an important banquet. As we were passing through Lianchi Road in Xicheng District, she was driving perfectly normally when a car suddenly sped up from behind, cut in front of her, and she hit it. I think she panicked. That alone wouldn’t have been a big deal, but…”

Little Fatty’s voice grew angry. ”But that driver was incredibly arrogant and unreasonable! It was clearly his fault—you could tell from the tire marks and the dashcam footage. Yet the moment he got out, he started screaming at the class president, blaming her for the crash, and called the traffic police. But those bastards who showed up seem to be in on it with him! They came over and immediately said the class president was fully responsible, and they even framed her for assault!”

”Alright, that’s enough. Where are you now? XC District Traffic Police Brigade, right?” Chen Fei interrupted, his voice cold.

”That’s right, Mr. Chen. The class president and I are at the XC District Traffic Police Brigade right now. Do you know anyone in Tongzhou City? I heard those traffic cops whispering… that guy seems to have a very powerful background.”

On the other end of the phone, Little Fatty was clearly desperate and clutching at straws. Only then did it hit him that the driver they had collided with seemed to come from a significant and powerful background.
