I have to say, Guan Shiyin’s cooking skills were impressive, even unexpectedly so. They were a real eye-opener for a kitchen assassin like Chen Fei.

After they finished dinner and cleaned up, Guan Shiyin, blushing, swiftly ushered Chen Fei out of her apartment. It was getting late, and she needed to change into her evening gown for the banquet and get ready. Her studio apartment didn’t have any extra rooms; the living room, bedroom, and kitchen were all connected, and the bathroom was too small to be suitable. Therefore, Chen Fei had to be inconvenienced for a bit.

He waited for nearly half an hour before he finally heard the apartment door open.

Guan Shiyin slowly emerged, wearing a long, pink evening gown. Her graceful figure was perfectly showcased. With a captivating, crescent-like smile on her face and a pair of legs seemingly crafted to the golden ratio, she was stunning. Her shimmery, crystal-like high heels only accentuated her brilliance, making her shine like a gem and leaving him absolutely spellbound.

”Goodness, are you a TV host or a movie star?” Chen Fei couldn’t help but exclaim. ”If you took a stroll outside dressed like that, you’d have a 100% head-turn rate. You’d stir so many innocent hearts.”

This was a complete departure from her usual style, a look that most people couldn’t pull off so easily. Yet, in just half an hour, she had transformed so perfectly. She went from an athletic goddess who could show off her figure to a star in an evening gown with dazzling, crescent-moon eyes and a gem-like smile. It’s almost unfair to other women! Chen Fei thought, his mind a jumble of admiration.

”Pfft, what nonsense are you talking about? Come on, give me your arm,” Guan Shiyin said, rolling her eyes, before quickly asking, ”Oh, right, did you drive here?” If Chen Fei hadn’t driven, her attire would be a huge, huge problem.

”I did. It’s parked downstairs. Come on, I’ll take you down,” Chen Fei nodded. Guan Shiyin took his arm, and they headed to where his Mercedes-Benz was parked outside the Oak Forest Community.

”Wow, is this your car?” Guan Shiyin couldn’t help but exclaim in pleasant surprise upon seeing Chen Fei’s Mercedes-Benz.

A Mercedes-Benz GL400 cost between 1,100,000 and 1,450,000 yuan. While it couldn’t compare to a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, for an ordinary person, being able to drive a luxury car worth over a million yuan was extremely impressive.

Moreover, this sent her a clear signal: Chen Fei wasn’t as ’modest’ as he claimed to be. He had to have some status within Northern Mountain City’s elite circles. Otherwise, how could an ordinary person possibly afford a luxury car like this?

A man who was both wealthy and held status in Northern Mountain City’s upper circles was exactly what she desperately needed right now. After all, she had just been demoted from the provincial television station. As an outsider, she was innately bound to be rejected! If she wanted to establish a foothold at Northern Mountain City Television as quickly as possible, there was only one way: find a powerful backer. This would make anyone who wanted to bully or ostracize her think twice. It was the best possible strategy. Chen Fei, with his luxury car and good temper, gave her hope. How could she not be delighted?

With this thought, Guan Shiyin’s mood improved even more. She couldn’t help but tease, ”I never would have guessed you’re a secret rich second-generation heir. You’re really rich.”

A rich second-generation heir? Yes, that must be it. That’s what she believed. Otherwise, how could someone as young as Chen Fei possibly afford to buy and maintain such a car? The more expensive the vehicle, the more costs were involved beyond the sticker price. There were so many other expenses.

”A rich second-generation heir? Look, you don’t have to…” Chen Fei was a bit speechless, but before he could finish, he heard a disdainful snort from a proud-looking man walking past them.

A glamorously dressed woman in the proud man’s arms couldn’t help but giggle at the scene. She playfully patted his shoulder and cooed, ”Young Master Zhang, did you hear that? I think I just heard someone showing off their wealth in front of you. Calling themselves rich?”

After speaking, the woman deliberately shot Chen Fei a dismissive glance. But then she froze, as if recognizing someone. Her gaze immediately landed on Guan Shiyin’s face, a half-smile playing on her lips. ”Well, if it isn’t our newcomer, little sister Guan. You live around here, too? What a coincidence. Is this your boyfriend? Hmm, it’s not bad for someone so young to drive a car like this. Just don’t be shortsighted like certain people. After all, there are plenty of wealthy people around, wouldn’t you say, Young Master Zhang?”

”Hello... Sister Meiling.” Guan Shiyin’s pretty face flushed with anger, as it was obvious Jie Meiling’s ’certain people’ was aimed at her. However, considering the woman’s status, she bit her lip, suppressed her indignation, and forced a smile. The woman was Jie Meiling, the host of a hit show on Northern Mountain City Television. She was considered the station’s number-one female host.

Although Jie Meiling always seemed to target her for no reason, Guan Shiyin was new here and didn’t know anyone, so she naturally wanted to avoid trouble.

”Heh, some people are truly frogs in a well,” the proud man said mockingly. ”It’s just a shoddy little car worth a little over a million. I have several like it in my garage that I can’t even be bothered to drive. To think that owning a car like this makes him believe he’s the richest man alive. How ignorant.” As he spoke, however, his lecherous eyes couldn’t help but rove over the radiant Guan Shiyin.

”Young Master Zhang,” a bodyguard called out. At that moment, he pulled up in a fiery red Ferrari, stopping smoothly beside the proud-faced man.

At the sight of the car, the man puffed up his chest like a peacock opening its tail feathers, feeling utterly superior. As he got in, he called out to Guan Shiyin, ”We’re probably heading the same way. Why don’t you ride with us? There’s an empty seat.”

He said all this without so much as a glance at Chen Fei, completely dismissing him.

”Young Master Zhang~” Jie Meiling’s expression changed instantly. She clung to him coquettishly while shooting a pointed, warning glare at Guan Shiyin. A flash of displeasure and jealousy was evident in her eyes. Is he kidding me? I spent so much time and effort to land Young Master Zhang. There’s no way I’m letting some little slut snatch him away. Impossible!

”Um, thank you, Young Master Zhang, but that’s alright. My friend will drive me,” Guan Shiyin said, tactfully refusing.

Hearing Guan Shiyin’s tactful refusal, Jie Meiling beamed and pressed herself against Young Master Zhang in the driver’s seat. ”Young Master Zhang,” she cooed, ”it seems someone doesn’t appreciate your kindness. We should just go.”

”Hmph! She doesn’t know what’s good for her,” Young Master Zhang snorted, clearly displeased by the rejection.

”Young Master Zhang, aren’t I good enough for you?” Jie Meiling pouted, casting a flirtatious glance at him and pretending to be hurt.

”Of course not, of course not! You little vixen, you’re the best! Hahaha...” Young Master Zhang said, his face alight with excitement.

”Then why are you trying to pick up other women right in front of me? Young Master Zhang, you’re so naughty,” Jie Meiling complained with a pout.

”Oh, I just saw she’s your colleague and thought I’d do something nice and offer a ride. But since my little treasure doesn’t agree, we’ll just go. Hehe, let’s go,” Young Master Zhang said with a quick laugh, promptly putting Guan Shiyin out of his mind.

ROAR! VROOM!

With a stomp on the gas pedal, the Ferrari shot forward like an untamed horse, drawing everyone’s attention.

Although most people who could afford a house in this neighborhood were from Northern Mountain City’s more affluent families, very few were rich enough to drive a Ferrari like Young Master Zhang. It was an enviable sight. In contrast, Chen Fei’s Mercedes, worth just over a million yuan, no longer seemed so eye-catching.

That was the difference between a car worth over one million yuan and one worth over three million!

At the sight, a look of grievance appeared on Guan Shiyin’s face. She had hoped to use Chen Fei’s status to show everyone she had a backer and shouldn’t be bullied. But now, she had been targeted and ridiculed by Jie Meiling yet again. And with Young Master Zhang and his Ferrari, worth over three million yuan, stirring things up, her good mood was completely ruined. This is so frustrating!

Despite this, she quickly collected herself. Looking at Chen Fei with some embarrassment, she apologized, ”Chen Fei, I’m sorry. They wouldn’t have targeted you like that if it weren’t for me.”

A person driving a luxury car worth over a million yuan shouldn’t be subjected to such contempt and insults. But because of her, he had to endure all that mockery from Young Master Zhang, who even called his high-end vehicle a ’shoddy little car,’ and he couldn’t even talk back. She felt terribly apologetic and guilty toward Chen Fei.
