Medical Sage

When Qin Yuan, the current director of the Traditional Medicine Affiliated Hospital of Northern Mountain City, received a call from his respected mentor, Elder Du, he immediately dialed the 110 emergency number without hesitation and swiftly dispatched an ambulance toward the outskirts of the city. In fact, if it weren’t for the period he spent studying under Elder Du, Qin Yuan could never have achieved his current accomplishments and status.

So, when Elder Du made the call, he naturally didn’t dare to hesitate for even a moment and promptly followed the instructions.

As for the 110 police station, they treated the matter with the utmost importance, as the call came directly from the director of the Affiliated Institute of Traditional Medicine. After receiving the emergency call, they immediately sent officers to the scene, even including a high-ranking officer to personally lead the team.

Seeing this, Chen Fei silently placed a mark on Kou Ling’s father and slightly suppressed the condition within his body before taking his leave. With one of his arms injured by the mysterious old man’s throwing knife, he was in no condition to press on and treat Kou Ling’s father.

”Alright, Doctor Chen, we’re truly sorry about today. You should go back and get some rest. We’ll take care of things here for the time being,” Elder Du and Dr. Xu said, as they both understood the situation.

Chen Fei then drove his Mercedes-Benz GL400 back to the California Garden Grand Hotel.

After carefully treating his wound and confirming there was no poison or other side effects, he took a comfortable bath, threw himself onto the bed, and closed his eyes to think.

Regarding today’s incident… honestly, it left him shocked and furious. To think someone could be so depraved and inhumane as to experiment on a living person… He found it utterly unacceptable, and a sense of heaviness and inexplicable sadness weighed on him.

He didn’t want to imagine what would have become of Little Kou Ling’s father if he hadn’t happened to arrive today. Would he have been killed by that throwing knife? Or would he have suffered a complete mental breakdown and turned into a monster?

Fortunately, he had stumbled upon the situation, so the course of events was altered. Little Kou Ling’s father wasn’t dead yet, and he was fairly confident he could save him, but… it felt as though he had been unwittingly drawn into a vast vortex.

”That old man, who exactly is he?” Chen Fei murmured softly as he lay on the soft bed, a great pressure welling up inside him.

Based on his brief clash with the mysterious elder today, the man was at the very least a Half-Step Innate Powerhouse. An expert of that level was definitely a terrifying, Mount Tai Beidou Level existence even within the entire Circle of Ancient Martial Arts in Huaxia. Most importantly, he was stronger than Chen Fei’s current cultivation level!

If I were to encounter him again soon, it would probably be very dangerous.

Chen Fei tossed and turned on the bed, muttering to himself, ”Sigh, it seems I’ve really gotten myself into big trouble. Should I go back and ask the old man to come out of his seclusion?” Come to think of it, it had been a very long time since he had gone back to see his master and his mother.

Yes, I must find some time to visit them soon.

「The next day, in Executive Deputy Mayor Huang Tao’s office at the Northern Mountain City Government Building.」

Chen Fei sat expressionlessly on the sofa while Huang Tao prepared tea for him.

It had been a while since they had seen each other, probably because Huang Tao had been preoccupied with the upcoming election. Everyone who enters politics aspires to climb higher, and Huang Tao was no different, which was understandable.

Even so, his reverence for Chen Fei hadn’t diminished in the slightest and remained as unshakeable as ever. After all, in his eyes, Chen Fei was practically a living deity, a non-human entity. No matter how high Huang Tao climbed or how far he went, he could never compare to such a mythic figure. In this regard, Huang Tao was quite self-aware.

Beyond this primary point of reverence, another matter involving Chen Fei had also left him completely astonished.

Chen Fei had once mentioned to him that Secretary Mo Cheng might fall from power. Initially, he was highly skeptical, as such an upheaval was no joking matter. How could the leader of an Earth Level city be replaced just like that? Impossible.

But not long ago, a major shake-up that occurred in Northern Mountain City had thoroughly convinced him.

Secretary Mo Cheng had indeed run into trouble. For various reasons, the provincial authorities decided to transfer him to another city to serve as the Municipal Committee Secretary. While it seemed like a lateral move, the city in question was not an Earth Level city and had also been the province’s worst-performing city in terms of development last year.

Anyone with a bit of sense could understand what this ”lateral transfer” truly meant. So now, Huang Tao was completely and utterly convinced.

”Doctor Chen, you mentioned on the phone that you had something important to discuss? May I ask what it is?” Huang Tao asked respectfully after placing the freshly brewed tea in front of Chen Fei.

”It is quite important. Try not to be shocked when I tell you…” Chen Fei took a sip of tea before detailing the situation concerning Little Kou Ling’s father. As Huang Tao listened, his expression began to change.

”Wh-what? Human experimentation!?” he exclaimed, unable to stop himself from jolting upright, his face a mask of shock.

It was clear that even for someone of his status, hearing such news was deeply unsettling. And for good reason—it was an act of complete inhumanity! Moreover, such diabolical experiments were absolutely prohibited by the Party. Once discovered, the perpetrators would be dealt with severely and without mercy.

Even so, he felt the hair on his body stand on end. This was truly insane. How could those people be so brazen as to engage in such forbidden activities?

”Yes. Uncle Huang, with your current rank, you should have access to the special department of the Provincial Public Security Department, right? I suspect this matter is related to the Circle of Ancient Martial Arts. With your status, can you report this directly to them and have them send someone to handle it?” Chen Fei asked with a nod.

”The special department of the Provincial Public Security Department… Mr. Chen, are you talking about the Flying Leopard unit? I know a little about them, but my rank isn’t high enough to speak directly with their person in charge…” Deputy Mayor Huang said with a frown, having finally managed to calm himself down.

Not a high enough rank? Then what do we do? Am I supposed to go find Dong Wencheng? Chen Fei was naturally surprised to hear that even the rank of an Executive Deputy Mayor was insufficient.

”I’ll leave for the provincial capital at once and report this to Governor Zhao,” Huang Tao declared, standing up as if he had already made his decision. ”The nature of this matter is extremely vile. The higher-ups must take it seriously without any further delay!”

”Governor Zhao?” Chen Fei asked, slightly startled.

”That’s right, Zhao Zhengcheng, Governor Zhao. It is thanks to his support over the years that I’ve been able to reach my current position as Executive Deputy Mayor,” Huang Tao quickly explained.

Clearly, Governor Zhao Zhengcheng was the powerful backer he relied on. The name sounded familiar to Chen Fei; whether on television or through public opinion, the governor had an excellent reputation. He was known to be pragmatic and earnest, dedicated to serving the country and its people—truly deserving of the title ”good official.”

”Alright then, I won’t keep you any longer. Oh, right, when you get there, you should probably mention that they shouldn’t send anyone below the level of a First-Class Ancient Warrior. That level of strength won’t be enough,” Chen Fei first nodded, then added as if he had just remembered something.

”First-Class Ancient Warrior level?” Huang Tao asked, appearing unfamiliar with the term.

”The people in that special department will know what it means. You just need to relay the message. Of course, whether they believe it or not is up to them,” Chen Fei said with a smile.

”Oh, okay, I understand,” Huang Tao nodded. He then left directly for Tongzhou City.

As for Chen Fei, he left the Northern Mountain City Government Building alone, preparing to head to the Affiliated Institute of Traditional Medicine to check on Kou Ling’s father.

When he had left yesterday, he had temporarily suppressed the unstable factors in the patient’s body. As a result, the man showed no symptoms throughout the night, instead sleeping soundly, and his vital signs even showed slight improvement.

However, after hearing this update on the patient’s condition, Chen Fei’s brow furrowed even deeper. ”Could it really be the work of the same group…” he murmured, feeling he was beginning to get a clue.

RING, RING, RING-RING-RING…

Just then, his phone suddenly rang. He pulled it out and saw the caller ID surprisingly displayed the word ”Mom.” A guilty look immediately crossed Chen Fei’s face. He answered the phone, his voice soft, ”Mom, is that you?”

”Of course, it’s me. How long has it been since you last called?” his mother, Lin Ling, replied from the other end, her tone tinged with complaint and dissatisfaction.

”Uh, that… I forgot. Um, Mom, how have you been lately? Is your old ailment acting up?” Chen Fei stammered, suddenly feeling like a terrible son.

My mother suffers from rheumatism and a constitutional coldness due to the hardships of her youth. I clearly have the ability to cure her now, but… but I actually forgot. Ugh, what is wrong with me?

”Don’t worry, it’s just an old ailment. I’m used to it,” Lin Ling’s voice continued, turning into a nagging lecture. ”How are things on your end? Is work going smoothly? Remember to wear more layers so you don’t catch a cold.” Hearing his mother’s concerned voice, Chen Fei’s heart ached with a pang of sorrow.

”Mom, I’m coming back tomorrow,” he said immediately, startling Lin Ling on the other end.

”You’re coming back? Then come back. You must be sick of all the food out there, right? What do you want to eat? I’ll go to the market tomorrow and make it for you,” Lin Ling said affectionately.

”I love everything you make. Oh, and tomato and egg soup, spicy chicken…” While internally berating himself for being so thoughtless, Chen Fei chatted with his mother about all sorts of things. The faint pressure in his heart vanished in an instant, and time seemed to fly by.
