Medical Sage

”This old clunker of mine?” Chen Fei had been silent until this moment. He only spoke up after the other car, their so-called luxury vehicle, had sped away and Guan Shiyin was apologizing to him. He couldn’t help but rub his chin, a peculiar smile on his face.

Why do I always run into these self-important morons? They love to puff themselves up, acting all high and mighty and condescending just to show off how superior they are. But is a crappy Ferrari really all that?

Chen Fei shook his head slightly. Adopting a magnanimous attitude, he chuckled and said, ”What’s there to get worked up about? Come on, where are we going?”

”You know the Luxury Clubhouse, right? Tonight’s celebration banquet is there.” Seeing that Chen Fei wasn’t sulking over what had just happened, Guan Shiyin’s pretty face finally broke into a crescent-moon smile. She gathered the hem of her gown and bent down to get into the passenger seat of the Mercedes GL400.

However, because the vehicle’s chassis was so high, and because her shoes and dress were rather restrictive, she had to bend over quite far to get in. The V-neck of her lace evening gown stretched open, revealing the fair, smooth skin and the porcelain-white curve of her bosom, enough to make a man’s throat go dry.

Chen Fei coughed awkwardly, turning his head away as he tried to recall the banquet location she’d mentioned. He paused, a sudden thought striking him. ”The Luxury Clubhouse? Isn’t that…”

”Yes, the Luxury Clubhouse. Don’t tell me you don’t know it? I heard it’s the most upscale and luxurious private club in Northern Mountain City.” Guan Shiyin was taken aback. In her mind, even if Chen Fei kept a low profile, he couldn’t possibly be ignorant of the city’s most exclusive private club.

”I know of it, but… never mind, it’s nothing.” Chen Fei had been about to confess that he had only been to that blasted place once. A normal person would have likely forgotten its exact location by now.

However, his memory was ten, even a hundred times, stronger than an average person’s. After a moment’s recollection, he pinpointed the exact location of the Luxury Clubhouse in his mind, so he saw no need to say more.

But his slight hesitation and unusual reaction finally made Guan Shiyin realize that he might have been telling the truth all along. He really didn’t seem to know anyone in Northern Mountain City’s upper circles, which would explain why he wasn’t even familiar with the location of the city’s most exclusive private club.

The thought made Guan Shiyin anxious. She had specifically asked her best friends to introduce her to a local from Northern Mountain City to be her date tonight. To be blunt, she just wanted to make an appearance in the city’s upper social circle. She also wanted everyone in her new circle at the TV station to know that even though she was a newcomer, Guan Shiyin still had connections and friends in Northern Mountain City!

But now she realized her naive hopes were probably dashed. He really didn’t seem to have any connections in the city’s high society. Even so, though she was disappointed and on the verge of blurting out a reproachful comment, she swallowed her words.

He’s here as a favor to help me. If I’m too demanding, what kind of person would that make me? Absolutely not.

”What’s wrong?” Chen Fei hadn’t noticed Guan Shiyin’s internal turmoil. Hearing her say his name, he responded with a puzzled look.

”Nothing, just focus on driving,” Guan Shiyin replied, her beautiful eyes sparkling like crescent moons as she feigned annoyance.

”Oh.” Chen Fei’s gaze flickered for a moment before he spoke again. ”Shiyin, even though I don’t know many people in Northern Mountain City’s so-called high society, I promise I won’t embarrass you tonight. Don’t worry. If those two from earlier try to give you any more trouble, I’ll make them regret it.”

Chen Fei might have been good-tempered, but he wasn’t stupid. Just by noticing the slight shift in Guan Shiyin’s mood, he had pieced together what she was thinking.

As someone ostracized at the provincial TV station, coming all alone to the unfamiliar city of Northern Mountain City, it was completely understandable that she would want to lean on him for support. All she wanted was to establish herself quickly and avoid being bullied.

And after that unpleasant encounter earlier… Chen Fei felt it would be rather unmanly of him not to make his stance clear. Right?

”Hey, what are you talking about? I wasn’t blaming you, so don’t get the wrong idea.” As expected, Guan Shiyin blushed, looking flustered as if a little secret of hers had been exposed.

”Haha, of course I’m not. Anyway, what’s this celebration banquet all about? Do you know who organized it?” Chen Fei smiled and deftly changed the subject.

”Oh, you mean tonight. The banquet is to celebrate Young Master Gao’s recovery from a car accident. You must know of Young Master Gao, right? He’s the son of Director Gao of the Vast Sea Group, the city’s biggest corporation.” As soon as Chen Fei brought up the evening’s main event, Guan Shiyin became all business.

Ever since Mo Cheng, the city’s former secretary, was effectively demoted and transferred to another city in Jiangnan Province, the Celestial Phenomena Group, which had always followed his lead, had reacted swiftly. Nearly all of its subsidiaries pulled out their investments and left the city. Seizing this golden opportunity, the city’s other major corporations began to frantically devour the market share left behind by Celestial Phenomena Group, expanding aggressively. The biggest beneficiary of this was the Vast Sea Group, managed by Gao Zhinan. It now showed all the signs of becoming Northern Mountain City’s number one enterprise.

If Gao Zhinan were to take his entire Vast Sea Group public, instead of just one or two subsidiaries, his personal wealth would likely skyrocket to astonishing heights. Naturally, his status in Northern Mountain City had changed dramatically, giving him the air of the city’s wealthiest man.

Therefore, one could only imagine the influence of a recovery banquet hosted personally by the son of a man who was, for all intents and purposes, the richest man in Northern Mountain City. How could a newcomer like Guan Shiyin, a minor TV host, not take it seriously?

”Young… Young Master Gao? Gao Zhinan’s son?” Upon hearing this, a strange expression crept onto Chen Fei’s face.

After all this time, it turns out to be Gao Zhinan’s son? The very same rich kid I miraculously saved is throwing a recovery party for himself? I still remember that kid got into a drag racing accident. He didn’t just have a comminuted fracture in his hand; he had massive thoracic bleeding and bone fragments piercing his lungs… An injury that severe? Anyone else would have died for sure. In the end, wasn’t it my own peerless medical skill and benevolent heart that… er, cough, cough. Anyway, I saved his life. Even though we haven’t seen each other since, that still makes me his bona fide savior, right? Looks like tonight should be a breeze. Chen Fei thought, a wide grin spreading across his face.

「Night fell in the Sea River District of Northern Mountain City.」

This was the district in Northern Mountain City closest to its namesake, the ’Sea River.’ The scenery was exceptionally beautiful, attracting numerous luxury villa complexes to spring up on its priceless land. The area along the river, in particular, was packed with high-end restaurants, bars, and exclusive clubs. With cruise ships also docked at its port, it was the liveliest part of Northern Mountain City at night.

Although some time had passed, Chen Fei had been here once before. His powerful memory allowed him to quickly find the Luxury Clubhouse, and he slowly drove through its gates.

The place was just as bustling as he remembered. The entrance was a showcase of luxury cars—Jaguars, Mercedes, Maseratis, Porsches, and more. Among them, a familiar, fiery red Ferrari was particularly eye-catching.

”It’s them again,” Guan Shiyin mumbled from the passenger seat. ”Enemies are really bound to cross paths.”

Clearly, she had no desire to see them.

”Alright, let’s get out. We’re bound to see them inside anyway,” Chen Fei chuckled. ”Besides, don’t you think she pales in comparison to you? Like an ugly duckling. Haha.” He got out and handed his keys to the valet, as his car obviously needed to be moved.

”PFFT. You have such a way with words. Quick, come over here so I can take your arm.” Guan Shiyin couldn’t help but laugh at his playful remark, her crescent-moon eyes sparkling with charm.

Though not quite as perfectly proportioned as Miss Chu Yan, at one-meter-sixty-seven or sixty-eight, she was close. Accentuated by her glittering crystal high heels, she looked perfectly matched with the one-meter-eighty Chen Fei. They looked like a golden couple, drawing admiring glances from other guests.

In contrast, Young Master Zhang and Jie Meiling cut a much sorrier figure. Young Master Zhang was short. He had handsome features, but short was short. Even with Jie Meiling deliberately wearing very low heels, she was still a good half-head taller than him. The sight was simply, unavoidably comical.

”Sister Guan, what a coincidence. We meet again.” Jie Meiling’s seductive eyes flashed with resentment and jealousy as she took in the radiant Guan Shiyin and her handsome date, who had just arrived in a car worth millions. She spoke in a shrill, sarcastic tone.

My date might be richer and more powerful than that pretty boy, but… he’s just so short!
