Notable background? Significant influence? Chen Fei could only smile at Little Fatty’s words. After all, the personal secretary of Tongzhou City’s top official was obediently acting as his chauffeur. Was there any backing more powerful or a background more significant than that? It hardly seemed possible.

Moreover, the moment Chen Fei heard what Little Fatty said over the phone, he knew it was the traffic police causing trouble—officials colluding to abuse their power. Otherwise, with tire marks and dashcam footage available, why would they immediately assign Murong Shan full responsibility? And then there was the false accusation of assault... Who would believe there wasn’t something fishy going on?

”Secretary Shen, do you know anyone from the Xicheng District Traffic Police Team?” Chen Fei asked Shen Kai, who was in the driver’s seat.

”The Xcheng District Traffic Police Team? Mr. Chen, has something happened? If you’d like, I can immediately call Director Qin Xianghui of the Municipal Public Security Bureau. He’s the head of the city’s entire public security system, which includes the traffic police,” Secretary Shen replied cautiously, not daring to treat the matter lightly.

Having navigated the official world for many years, he had long since mastered the art of reading people. He could tell Chen Fei was genuinely angry; otherwise, his tone on the phone wouldn’t have been so cold. The thought alone made sweat bead on his forehead.

This was a ’major figure’ that even Secretary Dong didn’t dare to neglect. If he were to become truly angry, who knew what terrifying consequences would follow.

”The head of the city’s public security system? It’s not that serious. A friend of mine was in a traffic accident. Even though it clearly wasn’t her fault, the police the other party called over immediately assigned her full responsibility and even accused her of assault...”

Although he knew a single word from him would be enough for Dong Wencheng to grant him any favor imaginable—let alone the head of the public security system—this was, at the end of the day, just a minor traffic accident. It was a trivial matter, and he felt embarrassed to make a huge fuss over it.

With that in mind, Chen Fei said more directly, ”Secretary Shen, how about you make a call for me first? Have someone stabilize the situation, but don’t stir the pot. We’ll head over, see what’s going on, and then decide what to do next.”

”Alright, Mr. Chen. Rest assured, I understand,” Shen Kai said. It was clear he was an astute man, grasping Chen Fei’s intent from a single sentence. He took out his phone and dialed Bi Zhengwei, the Director of the Xicheng District Public Security Bureau.

He had reasoned it out perfectly. Since the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Xicheng District Traffic Police Brigade, the Director of the Xicheng District Public Security Bureau should have some sway, as the traffic police were part of the public security department.

On the other end of the line, Director Bi Zhengwei of the Xicheng District Public Security Bureau froze for a second upon receiving Shen Kai’s call. He then became incredibly enthusiastic, even a little panicked. Good heavens, Secretary Dong’s number one secretary is calling me personally? Has something huge happened that I don’t know about?!

”Director Bi, it’s like this. I have a small matter I need your help with...”

Shen Kai recounted the details of Chen Fei’s friend’s situation. He specifically mentioned that Secretary Dong had instructed him to drive Chen Fei to the airport that morning. Then, hearing the slight tremble in the Director’s voice, he clearly relayed Chen Fei’s instructions: stabilize the situation, but don’t cause a stir or create unnecessary complications. They would handle everything else once they arrived.

”Yes, yes, of course, Secretary Shen, I understand! Please rest assured, and please tell Mr. Chen to rest assured as well. I’m heading to the Traffic Police Brigade right now. I will ensure Mr. Chen’s friend does not suffer the slightest bit of unfair treatment,” Director Bi promised, his forehead now covered in sweat. Internally, he was already cursing the blind, good-for-nothing fools at the Traffic Police Brigade.

If you’re going to pull strings for someone, at least open your damn eyes first! How dare you frame the friend of a VIP whom Secretary Dong personally arranged an airport transfer for? Are you tired of living?!

”Alright, I’ll leave it in your hands then, Director Bi. I’m hanging up.”

After ending the call, Shen Kai looked into the rearview mirror and spoke respectfully to Chen Fei, ”Mr. Chen, I’ve informed Director Bi from the Xicheng District Public Security Bureau. He’s heading over now.”

”Good. In that case, let’s hurry over as well,” Chen Fei said with a slow nod.

While Director Bi Zhengwei of the Xicheng District Public Security Bureau and Chen Fei were making their way to the Xicheng District Traffic Police Brigade from different parts of the city, Captain Luo of that very brigade had just gotten off the phone. He now stared with a hesitant expression at a short, chubby, bald man.

He then glanced over at Murong Shan, who was giving her statement. Her beautiful face was marred by a look of grievance, giving him a headache.

Just moments ago, his direct superior, Director Bi Zhengwei, had personally called to speak on behalf of the young woman in the Maserati, telling him to handle the accident properly. Normally, he would absolutely give face to Director Bi, the head of his superior department.

The problem was, the other party, the man in the Porsche, had an even more powerful backer. He was Zhang Quan, the son of Tongzhou’s Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, Zhang Quanchuan.

This wasn’t some deputy secretary with a nominal title. This was the sole municipal committee leader who oversaw the Public Security Bureau, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Courts. Even the head of the Municipal Public Security Bureau was under his authority. How could a mere captain of a district traffic brigade dare to cross him?

After a moment’s hesitation, he gritted his teeth, walked over to Murong Shan, and whispered, ”Miss, let me be straight with you. Your friend managed to get Director Bi from the Xicheng Public Security Bureau involved, but the other party’s connections are even stronger. He’s the son of our city’s Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee... So, how about this? You take the hit, I’ll rule you fully responsible, and we’ll make this whole thing go away quietly. What do you think?”

”What? The son of the Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee?”

Little Fatty, standing nearby, was stunned. His eyelids twitched furiously.

What? What the hell was that? The son of the Tongzhou City Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee? That’s way too big of a deal!

At this thought, he leaned in and whispered nervously, ”Class President, maybe we should just let it go? His background is terrifying...”

”But... but... alright, then.” Hearing this, Murong Shan clutched the red, five-fingered handprint on her right cheek. Though she felt wronged to her very core, she ultimately bit her lip and nodded in helpless agreement.

After all, in Tongzhou City, I’m just an outsider. And he’s the son of the local Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee. That’s a level of power that completely extinguishes any desire to keep fighting. If we continue to make a scene, we’ll probably be the only ones to regret it, right? The Traffic Police Brigade reports to the Public Security Bureau, and at the city level, the Public Security Bureau is managed by the Political and Legal Affairs Committee. The fact that this captain is even willing to explain this much to me is already quite considerate.

”Alright, Miss Murong, it’s settled then.”

Captain Luo of the Xicheng District Traffic Police Brigade breathed a small sigh of relief. He then walked over to the other party, Zhang Quan, to negotiate. ”Young Master Zhang, the other party has accepted full responsibility. How about we just let this matter drop? It’s not a big deal, after all...”

”Not a big deal? Don’t you know this country bumpkin hit my car? She even had the audacity to push me and speak disrespectfully! No way. I want them to face administrative punishment and give me a formal apology!” Zhang Quan, however, refused to back down.

What? Administrative punishment? And an apology?

Hearing this, Murong Shan could no longer contain her sense of injustice. ”On what grounds?” she shouted. ”It was clearly your fault!”

”Exactly! You’re going too far!” Little Fatty couldn’t hold back either. ”We still have the dashcam footage! Aren’t you taking this too far by pushing for more?”

It was true. That scumbag was clearly in the wrong. Not only did he speed and violate traffic rules, but he was also the first one to get physical, spewing a torrent of foul, vulgar language. Murong Shan had only pushed him after she couldn’t take it anymore. That was hardly an excuse to frame them.

It was a traffic incident where any reasonable person could see who was at fault, yet it was being dragged out while they, the victims, were being forced to take the loss. Fine, they could accept taking the loss. Who could they blame when his father was so powerful?

But now, he wasn’t satisfied. He wanted to push it even further, demanding Murong Shan apologize and accept administrative punishment. Wasn’t that truly going too far?

Is there really no law and order left in this world?

”On what grounds? You bitch, and you, you country bumpkin! Let me tell you, my dad is Zhang Quanchuan, the Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee! Are you looking to die?!” Zhang Quan’s expression turned menacing as he spat out the curses, his face a mask of extreme displeasure.

”You two, please calm down. Young Master Zhang, can I have a word with you in private?” Captain Luo said, shaking his head internally at Zhang Quan’s blatant abuse of power.

”Hmph!” Zhang Quan snorted coldly but followed him aside for a private conversation.

”Young Master Zhang, I’ll be honest with you. Strictly speaking, you’re fully at fault for this incident. Plus, they have evidence—the dashcam footage. If this really blows up, it will be difficult for us to handle. And...”

He paused for a moment before adding, ”And it seems the other party has some connections of their own. Director Bi just called me.”

”Director Bi? Director Bi Zhengwei?” Zhang Quan was slightly taken aback. While his father’s status and position meant he wouldn’t spare a thought for a mere district-level Public Security Bureau director, that was his father’s influence, not his own. If this matter really escalated, it could still be troublesome.
