High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2199: Chapter 420: The Observation Room in Chaos

”A-1 Hunting Zone perimeter has discovered a Jiao-category magical creature, resembling a Hungarian Tree Bee; its strength is close to the high-tier registered wizard limit and continuing to move toward the Winter Hunting Area... Hilda patrol begins attempting to drive it away!”

”A-4 Hunting Zone perimeter has discovered a suspected Tanggula Ice Chi variant Jiao-category magical creature, nearing the Great Wizard Rank, continually approaching the warning line... Thomas patrol begins attempting to contact and dissuade!”

”A-5 Hunting Zone perimeter has discovered a Jiao-category magical creature... Gen Hoshino patrol begins targeting!”

”A-2 Hunting Zone perimeter...”

”A-3 Hunting Zone...”

With less than three hours remaining until the end of Winter Hunt, the Winter Hunt observation room outside the hunting ground filled with a rapid, piercing buzzing sound amidst the glaring red lights. One bad news followed another—at least twenty magical fluctuations nearing the Great Wizard level from wild dragons emerged from the depths of Silent Forest, closing in on the series of hunting zones on the outskirts of the Winter Hunt.

”Did some Great Wizard unearth a dragon nest?”

A warlock from Starry Sky Academy looked at the screens emitting red light, eyes shining, tone tinged with envy, ”Such a number of wild dragons, how much would they be worth!”

”No unauthorized hunting actions during Winter Hunt,” someone immediately replied. ”This includes individuals and hunting teams, there are no reports, this has always been the norm!”

To prevent disturbances of certain monsters in the depths of Silent Forest, schools generally do not approve any private or team explorations into the forest’s interior during Winter Hunt.

Of course, inevitably, some hunting teams would ’act without permits’. If undiscovered, all is well, but if discovered, the team would be delisted, and individuals would receive dual subpoenas from Trident Sword and Danghag.

Another witch in white robes clearly disagreed with the warlock’s speculation from Starry Sky Academy, ”Even if some wizards or teams were hunting illegally, it’s impossible to disturb so many different draconic species at once... and look at their invasion directions, appearing almost simultaneously from all eight directions... does this mean there are illegal teams or wizards on all sides... is that possible?”

It is certainly impossible.

A wild dragon being disturbed might be illegal hunting, two wild dragons could be coincidence, and with three or four, one might barely say some dragon nest was stirred.

But with more than twenty wild dragons appearing simultaneously, it must be organized behavior.

”Could it be an emergency drill arranged by the school?”

An observer in a red robe frantically flipped through the nearly new Winter Hunt manual in front of them, loudly questioning others, ”Has anyone received any directives?”

No response.

Meanwhile, in the observation room, those few clusters of Speaker Flowers hanging from the ceiling corners were sharply and piercingly transmitting report after report, and response after response from different departments:

”...Divination Group! Does the Divination Group have any latest situation feedback?”

”Multiple patrols and wild dragons simultaneously lost contact! Suspected large interference magic in effect... Divination Group feedback suggests involvement of multiple Great Wizards!”

”What about the School Guardian Array?”

”Guardian Array status is normal, no attacks received!”

”Weather monitor?”

”Weather monitor has terminated any abnormal weather states, ensuring good weather conditions for the hunting ground and surrounding areas!”

”Other hunting zones?”

”The school Winter Hunting Area and Beta Town Winter Hunting Area are normal, with no unusual attacks detected! No large-scale emergence of special magical creatures discovered!”

”Divination Group believes the wild dragon appearances are not independent incidents; unknown risk aperture has exceeded the safety threshold!”

”Assistant Team has fully deployed to search for trapped patrols!”

”School Works Committee has confirmed early intervention in Winter Hunt tasks... School Works Committee’s standby patrol has already replaced part of the guard duties, the campus situation is stable!”

”On-duty professors have been informed of the situation, and the Professor Joint Meeting is closely monitoring the developments!”

”Divination shows the risk of school assault is continuously rising...”

The observation room was in chaos.

When one falls, even if knowing what is to happen, even if accepting what is imminent, unease, shock, and fear inevitably arise deep within.

Like someone drowning, unable to find footing, hands grasping nothing, a ceaseless sense of falling, and an indescribable fragility, leading one to utmost helplessness.

Like the young wizards in the observation room right now.

Even though numerous contingency plans had been made before Winter Hunt, with detailed steps for handling various scenarios, the sudden changes that arrived unannounced still threw these young wizards into disarray.

Upon confirming that the sudden emergence of more than twenty wild dragons posed a tremendous threat to Winter Hunt, the observation room leader immediately sounded the alarm and continuously escalated the alarm level based on transmitted messages.

”Alarm! Alarm! Alarm!”

...

”Yellow Alarm!”

...

”Orange Alarm!!”

...

”Red Alarm!!!”

”...A-7 Hunting Zone perimeter manifests high-intensity magical fluctuations! Instantaneous peak reaching the upper limit of Great Wizard! Guardian Array detects Legendary magic traces! Guardian Array detects Legendary magic traces!!”

The voices from the Speaker Flowers were slightly distorted from sharpness. It’s not that these young wizards were inexperienced; throughout First University, apart from a hunting team that participated in the Black Prison War, few students had witnessed Legendary Magic, let alone possibly confronting it directly.

”Magic review failed!”

”Repeat, Magic review failed!”

”Manual review in progress... Manual review confirmed!”

”A-7 direction confirmed explosion of magic fluctuations with Legendary traces... Currently, no effective information can be observed... Victor Patrol Team in charge of that region remains uncontactable!”

”Divination result shows we have already lost the optimal intervention opportunity!”

”To ensure campus safety, the Divination Group requests full intervention by the School Works Committee and the Professor Joint Meeting! The Divination Group requests the execution of emergency safety protocols!”

”Hunting Committee concurs!”

”Student Council concurs!”

”Club Union concurs!”

”School Works Committee approves emergency safety protocol application!”

”Professor Joint Meeting approves execution of the emergency safety protocol... Winter Hunt function departments execute protocol as per their respective manuals... School Guardian Array activation in ten, nine, eight, seven, six...”

Buzz!!

A delicate and long-lasting magic tremor passed from the soles into the heart of every young wizard in the observation room; screens filled with golden yellow tinted the skies and earth. The fully activated School Guardian Array comforted every tense face with its powerful magical pulse, allowing everyone to breathe a sigh of relief.

Then, finally, someone realized there were some hunting teams outside the array.

”... What about those thirty hunting teams outside??”
