High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2168: Chapter 389: Unexpected

The little cold that the Doctor and the Fatty caught only lasted a few hours before disappearing thanks to a few doses of magic potion.

Their slight grievances did nothing to dampen the young scholarship student’s cheerful mood. During the next two days of vacation, Zheng Qing often reminisced about his experience on Friday night—the more he recalled, the more joyful he felt, as if polishing a dull jade stone, which, after repeated polishing, not only didn’t wear out but became increasingly crystal clear.

Unfortunately, for the next two days, Jiang Yu had to attend the student council’s end-of-term meeting, and Zheng Qing never found another opportunity to meet the witch.

It wasn’t until the class meeting on Sunday night that he saw Jiang Yu again.

”...This is the last class meeting of November. Next week is December, and then in four weeks, at the end of December, you’ll take this semester’s final exams. You are almost halfway through your sophomore year at First University, and everyone should think carefully and reflect: Did you waste this semester? Did you waste your time? How far are you from becoming a truly registered wizard...”

On the podium, Professor Yao spoke non-stop, repeating things that seemed to have been said many times, yet also sounded as if they were being said for the first time. Below the podium, almost everyone sat upright, their faces serious.

It wasn’t that everyone had such a deep understanding of the professor’s speech, but the mention of the words ’final exams’ in his talk immediately tightened everyone’s spirits.

Thinking back to the trial before the start of September, and the ”Campus Cup” Hunting Competition in October, it seemed they all happened just yesterday, and suddenly, a new final was approaching.

As for Zheng Qing, although he also looked solemnly at the podium, in reality, he was somewhat distracted, his peripheral vision occasionally drifting to the central position in the front row of the classroom—because for well-known reasons, he found it hard to express excessive enthusiasm for the witch in public, so after entering the classroom today, he just gave a simple greeting.

Jiang Yu’s response was also somewhat lukewarm, in stark contrast to his recollections. This made the ’crystal clear’ jade stone in his mind seem to have an unnoticed blemish.

”Additionally, next Tuesday!”

On the podium, Old Yao suddenly emphasized, his sight casually sweeping over the corner where the Atonement Hunting Team’s warlocks sat, prompting a sharp focus in Zheng Qing’s heart, tightening his thoughts.

”...Next Tuesday is the Day of Ascension.”

The professor’s voice lacked any fluctuations, with an air of sternness in its calmness: ”As with last year, during the Day of Ascension, as there will be offerings conducted, the school will be on holiday for one day... During the holiday, apart from students participating in the fasting and offerings ceremony, no one is allowed to wander around, stay obediently in your dormitories, and review your lessons... The final exams are coming very soon, and every minute and second of this extra holiday is extremely important. For every extra minute you review, you can earn an additional point in the exam...”

Zheng Qing had reason to believe that when Old Yao said ”stay obediently in your dormitory,” he definitely glanced at him, his gaze full of warning.

Last year during the Day of Ascension, Zheng Qing had sneaked out with Elena into Alpha Fortress’s Calhoun House lounge. Although it didn’t cause any serious consequences, unlike last year, the biggest difference is now he carries a ’school probation’ status, meaning his risk of going out is much higher than last year.

Just as the young scholarship student was lost in his thoughts, the voice from the podium suddenly came to a halt.

Zheng Qing looked toward the podium, only to see Professor Yao tilting his head, looking curiously at the door—at some point, a small crack had opened in the classroom door, and a furry little head poked through from outside.

”Is there something you need?” Old Yao pleasantly greeted the little head.

The little head turned within the door crack, looking around.

Zheng Qing finally saw her face clearly.

It was Su Ya.

A sudden sense of unease rose in his heart.

As he caught sight of Su Ya, the little fox lady also spotted the warlock in the corner and noticeably breathed a sigh of relief, boldly stepping in through the door.

”My young lady has a message for him.” She naturally pointed toward Zheng Qing, who was trying to shrink under the table, and then added, ”I am from the Greenhill Mansion...”

Mid-sentence, she got stuck, seemingly unsure of how to continue her self-introduction, two fox ears popping out from her hair as she pondered hard.

Zheng Qing really wanted to grab those furry ears and remind her, if Su Man, the head housemaid, knew she had barged into the classroom so impolitely, she might make her clean the floors for another month.

But obviously, now was not the right time to dwell on such a detail.

”She’s the little maid next to Su Councilor!”

”Yes, yes, I recognize her... She came with Su Councilor to our class last year!”

”Is she here for Zheng Qing?”

”Who else could it be!”

More and more classmates recognized the little fox lady’s identity, and increasingly more eyes began to turn toward the back corner of the classroom, landing on the restless young scholarship student.

”Zheng Qing?”

On the podium, Old Yao called the warlock’s name, indicating, ”There’s nothing important left, you may go out with this... this lady.”

Su Ya beamed upon hearing the formal address ’lady.’

”No rush, no rush,” she waved repeatedly, in a magnanimous manner: ”I can wait here for a while, you continue, I’ll just... just... just wait over there for a bit, it’s alright!”

The little fox lady finally saw Li Meng winking at her from the front row and gleefully scampered over, squeezing into the little witch’s seat, sitting upright and gazing at the podium, with her furry ears somehow retreating back under her fluffy hair.

Zheng Qing suspected this little girl wanted to take the chance to experience what it’s like to be a student.

On the podium, Old Yao didn’t show any annoyance at Su Ya’s rash behavior but instead casually stuffed a pipe into his mouth, cheerfully glancing around: ”I’ve finished emphasizing the important topics just now. It’s just two things, let me repeat: First, the final exams are in a month, so make sure to arrange your time properly; and secondly, next Tuesday is the Day of Ascension, and you all know the rules, so I won’t reiterate here... Does anyone have any other questions?”

He raised his arm, as if ready to announce the end of the class meeting.

Then, in his sight, appeared a hand raised very high.

The professor’s eyebrows raised.

”Zheng Qing?” He mentioned the name again, sounding a bit surprised: ”Is there something you want to ask?”

Suddenly, everyone turned in unison, looking at the young scholarship student.

Zheng Qing stiffly stood up and dryly asked, ”Professor, I’d like to ask, what is your opinion on the ’Please Give Me a Frog’ campaign?”
