High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2167: Chapter 388: Untitled

After the meeting of the Seven Sins was over, the black cat didn’t immediately return to the dormitory. Instead, it turned halfway towards the Cat Fruit Tree, intending to take advantage of today’s transformation opportunity to patrol its territory.

Of course, a more important reason was that earlier, upon leaving Doctor Duzem’s research institute, he had mentioned to Jiang Yu that he might go to the Cat Fruit Tree at night.

The time was near the middle of the month.

The crescent moon had gained a slight arc and hung in the sky, like a slightly irregular golden sunflower seed. The black cat stepped through the fine moonlight scattered between the treetops and building gaps, moving lightly and swiftly, passing through several small woods, numerous bushes, and the dark corners of a few buildings without disturbing any passerby admiring the moonlight.

Moonlight is not the same as nightlight.

Moonlight is a slightly luminous darkness.

Dead leaves drifted down from the branches, insects hummed quietly in the stone cracks, the moon rose from the lake’s surface, and the lake water flowed towards the deep sky. The long-necked heron of the night spread its wings, gliding lightly and powerfully over the lake, stirring up sparkling ripples.

When the black cat arrived under the Cat Fruit Tree, a white, mane-like furry scarf hung around its neck at some unknown time. This was the Thanksgiving gift Jiang Yu had given him.

The black cat felt it was particularly fitting to wear it tonight.

On the Cat Fruit Tree, the fruits, as always, hung tremblingly on their respective branches, snoring in the night breeze. Their smooth long hairs undulated with the fine, prolonged snoring sounds, adding a peculiar vitality and vibrancy to this nearly asleep world.

The black cat ignored all this.

Because it saw a figure under the moonlight that delighted it beyond measure, lazily reclining on its ”throne,” with two small white paws in front, head held high, exuding an impressive demeanor.

Sadly, not every moment under the moon is filled with romance.

Just like not every reunion is full of passion.

Even though the little white cat came, it ignored the black cat trying to get close, always turning her back to the black cat. No matter how the black cat tried to circle around to her front, she could always nonchalantly turn her head at the last moment, showing him a fluffy back of her head again.

After trying for a long time, the black cat had to disappointedly acknowledge reality.

The little white cat was upset and didn’t want to pay attention to him.

Come to think of it, who would calmly face the fact that their date had not only a ”fiancée” but even had kids who could buy soy sauce?

Luckily, she was still willing to come see me, indicating there’s a chance for redemption.

As the matter involves the secret of a Big Wizard’s advancement, Zheng Qing couldn’t explain in detail to anyone about his relationship with Su Shijun, so he could only repeat the explanation he’d already said many times, emphasizing that he and the owner of Greenhill Mansion didn’t have the kind of relationship people imagined.

This kind of nonsense, even saying it himself, felt tedious, let alone for the listener.

So, after mumbling a few times like the famous complainant about how ”we really don’t have that kind of relationship,” the young cost student changed the topic, starting to ramble about the trivialities of these days.

From the long-necked heron he saw on his way here tonight, to how many times he transformed this week, his hearing seemed to have gotten sharper, thus leading to the conclusion that the magical essential oil the little white cat gave really works!

From the overwhelming amount of homework in the Magic Universe Study elective course by Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man, to how Xiao Xiao drew a star map on that roll of Bamboo Slip Law Book, which was a gift from Sima to the Doctor, just as useful as the furry collar on my neck!

The little white cat was unmoved by the black cat’s flattery, not even bothering to twitch an ear.

The black cat gave up pretending and began chatting casually about anything and everything—first mentioning that there were a few more kittens around the Cat Fruit Tree recently, possibly descendants of that Persian Cat; then bringing up how the fishmen of Lin Zhong Lake hadn’t shown up in the mornings for a while, as the cold winter air made their blood and movements equally sluggish; also noting that tonight’s meeting of the Seven Sins included a black-and-white patch pig and a red fox, how the internal power struggle within Alpha intertwined with the Northern District Wizard, affecting the stability of Jiuyou Academy, and so on.

Such topics, all over the place.

The black cat spoke enthusiastically, feeling a bit like giving an unrestrained, impassioned oration. The little white cat’s fur glowed softly under the moonlight, sparking thoughts in his mind that exploded one after another, seemingly without end.

Until his mouth dried out from speaking.

The little white cat finally seemed less cold than before, her body becoming much softer, lazily lying in front of the black cat, her tail flicking idly.

The black cat licked its dry tongue, staring at the clear moonlight flowing over the little white cat’s back, a thought inexplicably arose in his heart—what would the moonlight taste like? It should be very thirst-quenching, right?

Then it unconsciously licked up.

The little white cat tensed all over, flattening her ears swiftly, her limbs stiffly crouched as if in the next second she would dart down the tree and disappear.

Yet the next second never arrived; instead, the black cat’s licking got closer, and the shadows of the two cats gradually merged into one.

Then at some moment after that, the shadows slowly spread out as if water seeping into sand, the water didn’t disappear, merely went deeper.

...

...

The next morning, Zheng Qing woke up in the tent.

Outside, the faint sound of conversation between Xiao Xiao and the Fat Wizard could be heard. Whether it was due to the tent barrier, their voices seemed somewhat muffled.

”...To live happily in this world, the most important thing is to learn to reconcile with the unknown.” The Doctor’s topics were always filled with philosophy:

”After all, as insignificant individuals, there’s so much about this world that we do not know. Keeping a distance from the unknown, or rather, holding awe for the unknown, is a sensible choice.”

The Fat Man obviously disagreed with his perspective: ”Your attitude towards life is too passive. You want to stay away from the unknown, but does the unknown want to stay away from you?... Um, want another bowl?”

”No, thank you.”

Listening to them, evidently drinking something, sparked Zheng Qing’s curiosity. He lifted the tent flap. A searing heat permeated the room. Xiao Xiao and the Fat Man were pinching their noses, pouring a viscous potion into their mouths, as if it were molten lava.

”What are you drinking?” The young cost student’s throat was also a little dry.

Two icy gazes fell on the black cat.

”What do you think?” The Doctor adjusted his glasses with a blank expression.

”’I shouldn’t be back too late’ huh?” The Fat Wizard sarcastically echoed what the black cat said before leaving last night, then grumpily set down the potion bowl: ”If you’re running late you couldn’t have sent a paper crane? Do you have any idea it’s winter now? Try being out in the cold wind half the night and see if you don’t catch a cold!”

Zheng Qing sheepishly pulled up the tent flap, pretending he was still asleep.
