High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2172: Chapter 393: A Terrifying Coincidence

Li Meng seemed very satisfied with the ’transaction location’ she chose, deliberately emphasizing the word ’safety’ at the end, and then revealed a look for Zheng Qing to compliment her.

The young cost student gradually stiffened his expression.

After hearing the ’notification’ from the little witch, his heart slightly skipped, and he immediately thought of the nightmare he had last morning. In the nightmare, the transaction under the Cat Fruit Tree was far from safe—the black cat first fell from the tree, and then encountered two witches facing each other in a perilous confrontation.

Truly upsetting.

”Cat Fruit Tree?” He seemed to not quite believe his ears and uncertainly repeated in question.

”Bingo!”

Li Meng raised her hand, snapped her fingers without making any sound, and then looked at her fingers with some annoyance, muttering, ”Oh? That’s strange, it was quite loud last night!”

After speaking, she started investigating why today’s snap sounded like a fart.

”Oh, okay, okay. Thank you, I got it.” The young cost student similarly said thank you absently, mindlessly heading towards his seat.

Jiang Yu blinked, looked at her ’deeply meditating’ cousin, and then at the ’lost soul’ Zheng Qing, her beautiful eyebrows furrowed together, wondering what situation had arisen between the two.

Upon arriving at his seat, Zheng Qing could smell the aroma of chamomile tea from afar.

This instantly calmed the restlessness in his emotions.

”Thank you.”

The boy repeated the words he had spoken moments earlier, sincerely thanking Xin Fat Man. The Fat Wizard seemed oblivious, his entire head hidden behind a thick newspaper, reading today’s Beta Town Post by himself, not saying a word, apparently not hearing the young cost student’s greetings.

Zheng Qing’s heart skipped again.

”Is there... any... um, interesting news today?”

He fiddled with the ”Standard Spells” and the law book beside him, smoothing down the edges of both books meticulously, striving to make his tone seem more casual.

Only that shifting gaze betrayed this casualness.

The Fat Wizard remained silent.

It was Xiao Xiao, seemingly sensitively detecting the strange atmosphere in the air, touched the arm of her glasses, quickly took out her crystal ball, her lips slightly moved, beginning to silently divine.

”Damn it!”

After a while, Xin Fat Man then cursed and threw down the newspaper in his hand, still ignored Zheng Qing, instead casting an unfriendly look around, carefully scrutinizing everyone in the classroom: ”I don’t know which son of a bitch, leaked Old Yao’s speech from last night... left me nothing! A total waste of two to three hours of my hard work last night! I was planning to have Nicholas make some connections today, interview a few Northern District Wizards, and then write a comprehensive report!”

Turning his speech, he started scolding the Beta Town Post: ”That bunch of little bastards from the post also don’t follow the rules! Their backs are crooked, and their hands grow crooked too! Let me tell you, on the entire Buji Island, who doesn’t know I’m in Old Yao’s class... every journalist has their own piece of land, going to someone else’s territory to grab food is too ugly!”

Zheng Qing deeply doubted the reliability of the Fat Wizard’s ’who doesn’t know’ statement.

If it were normally, he wouldn’t mind sarcastically citing a few counterexamples proving how many wizards on Buji Island didn’t know someone like Xin Fat Man.

But now, maintaining a superficial calm already reflects the ample practice and rich experience he’s gained in more than a year. Even so, when he casually picked up the newspaper thrown by the Fat Wizard, his face still went pale as if he had swallowed a bluebottle.

The thick, bulging mulberry paper clutched in his hand gave a very reliable feeling, yet Zheng Qing couldn’t sense safety, only threads of chill silently creeping in from all directions.

The headline in gigantic bold type set the tone for the entire report—”Dean of Jiuyou Academy Voices Support for Northern District Wizards’ Equality Movement”!

The young cost student skimmed through the front page at lightning speed, glanced swiftly over the content compiled based on the information he provided, it was decent, without exaggeration or falsifications, allowing the tension raising in him to ease slightly.

He also faintly guessed the reason behind Beta Town Post’s unusual ’friendliness’ this time—though still from Jiuyou Academy, Old Yao’s identity had entirely transformed from a few months ago to now, Beta Town Post might occasionally editorialize a Big Wizard but couldn’t disrespect a Legend.

Even so, towards the end of the article in a few paragraphs, the post ultimately couldn’t resist its inertia, as usual, touched upon the Jiuyou Academy Dean’s usage of terms like ’burden’ to describe the Northern District Wizards, affecting the internal unity of the Mage Alliance severely; accused other colleges at First University and the Alliance of irresponsibility, shoving the blame on Jiuyou Academy; in addition, it maliciously speculated that the ’inserted’ Gypsy witches were treated unfairly at Jiuyou Academy, and so on.

This view made Zheng Qing break into a cold sweat, his face ashen.

Many ’out-of-context’ statements in the article matched word for word with what he heard Old Yao yelling in the dream.

Premonition dream!

Witness!

Inexplicably, two words abruptly surfaced in the young cost student’s mind, almost immediately, recalling the ’second-degree murder case’ he had witnessed by Lin Zhong Lake in a dream long ago.

He couldn’t help but look up, glancing at Jiang Yu seated in the front row.

The witch was leaning to the side, patiently explaining something to Li Meng, a lock of long hair hanging by her face on the side facing the boy, drifting gently in the passing breeze.

Zheng Qing shook his head forcefully.

No way!

He clearly remembered, when he first blew up, emerging from the teapot that day, the professor had told him, he didn’t truly possess the ’witness’ talent, that was merely a ’side effect’ brought on by the Forbidden Curse.

According to the professor’s theory, the Forbidden Curse emerged from the world with naturally held information about the entire world within it. That means, all ’talents’ the world possessed, came up, really existed, influenced by the Forbidden Curse, had a chance to be manifested on the ’subject’ bearing the Forbidden Curse.

The precondition is these manifestations are based on some intense desire.

Only these manifestations are like trying to catch a specific patterned and shaped pebble in the ocean, extremely difficult, with a very low chance. Moreover, only by fully mastering the Forbidden Curse can one possibly experience this manifestation ability anytime, anywhere.

This theory doesn’t match at all with what he experienced last night—does he feel a strong yearning deep within to confront questioning by two witches at once?

What a joke!

He hasn’t lived his fill yet! Moreover, nobody ever mentioned that the witness talent could see future events, nor heard any precedent of a premonition dream piercing through two layers of dreamscape!
