High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2165: Chapter 386: An Arrogant Request

”I’ve gathered everyone here today for two, no, one matter... hold on.”

The warlock wearing a bat mask, after correcting himself, made a calming gesture to everyone and turned to the Black Cat: ”Before we begin, I want to confirm, how many third-party organizations has our Lord Kannai contacted?”

The other six pairs of eyes followed the direction of Lucifer’s finger, all turning to look at the Black Cat.

The Black Cat was a little stunned.

The last meeting of the Seven Sins ended hastily because he couldn’t fulfill the members’ commission. After meeting the Wandering Wizard at the Wandering Bar and being shocked by the task list shown by the Wandering Wizard, he planned to discuss it with the members of the Seven Sins. But then, he was unexpectedly bagged in a small grove.

That bag changed many things.

For example, it wasn’t until Lucifer spoke that he recalled the transaction he made at the Wandering Bar that day.

”I’ve already contacted some, and it should be enough to fulfill your commission.” The Black Cat stiffened his ears and vaguely replied, then asked in return, ”...as for which specific clubs, do I really need to report them to you all?”

The warlock in the bat mask gave the Black Cat a deep look.

”Reporting is naturally unnecessary.”

He seemed to have guessed the Black Cat’s situation and answered smoothly: ”You just need to act like a true Lord Kannai, connect with other clubs and communicate with wizards outside of school. When we need guidance, let everyone know that their presence in this meeting room is meaningful... rather than sitting like a sculpture on the table, unable to provide us with the Seven Sins any advice or additional help.”

The Black Cat found his words irritating.

But also very honest.

So, he had no choice but to sullenly repeat his previous question: ”...enough with the nonsense, Lucifer, what’s the purpose of gathering everyone tonight?”

”The first thing, does everyone know about ’Please Give Me a Frog’?” Lucifer looked around.

”Yes.”

”A bunch of clowns.”

”A comedy in the winter.”

”Their attitude is overly aggressive, almost a coup, which could easily trigger backlash from Jiuyou Academy or the school... resulting in the opposite effect.”

Everyone replied in a chaotic manner.

Lucifer listened silently to everyone’s evaluations until the conference room fell quiet again, then he spoke in a very soft voice: ”My first request is simple... this task isn’t limited to Lord Kannai, but is directed at everyone present... I hope everyone here can spare no effort in promoting the ’Please Give Me a Frog’ public event, encouraging more students in the school to pay attention to and support the demands of the Northern District Wizards.”

As soon as he finished speaking, including the Black Cat, everyone looked at the warlock in the bat mask with strange expressions.

”Are you planning to blow your own cover?” questioned Samael, the Wolf Head Mask, known for his short temper and straightforward approach, voicing the first thought in everyone’s mind.

The members of the Seven Sins rarely commissioned such clearly targeted tasks, as they dramatically increase the risk of exposing one’s identity. In the past, commissions typically involved collecting rare materials or data from illegal magical experiments, only conducted via indirect trades by Lord Kannai.

Lucifer chuckled: ”It’s just a task, if you can guess my identity from this, it’s no big deal... after all, this mask will soon be passed on to the next successor.”

”You’re already a senior this year?”

”Doesn’t necessarily have to be a senior... juniors, or even some sophomores graduating aren’t uncommon.”

”Is there a rule that members must be students? Could it be a faculty member planning to resign or a researcher preparing to leave the school?”

”Deducing identity based on leaving the club has too many variables, but today’s task offers me many new ideas. As far as I know, the organization actively pushing the ’Please Give Me a Frog’ movement is Alpha Academy’s ’Law Book Liberation Association’. As is well-known, this association is largely influenced by the Blood Comrades, acting almost as Sepulano’s white gloves...”

”The new Augustus is indeed known for his radical reform ideas, forming the Xiang Qi Club in his freshman year, reportedly aimed at overthrowing the Blood Comrades... however, now he is the biggest leader of the Blood Comrades, it’s uncertain if his founding goal still stands.”

”The connection is too obvious, which makes me think Lucifer isn’t from the Sepulano camp, at least not Sepulano himself, the difference in build is too great... stirring chaos with the Northern District Wizards’ demands feels more like the handiwork of conservative warlocks from the Alpha Fortress.”

”Friedman? Since being stripped of the Augustus title by Sepulano, this Lord Knight has practically retired. What benefit does stepping in bring him now?”

”Doesn’t necessarily need to be beneficial to take action, he’s the spokesperson for the conservatives, should do something for them.”

Speculating on each other’s identity has been an ever-present game within the Seven Sins. At this moment, the members around the conference table were busy speculating, each holding their views, making the discussion lively, in stark contrast to the previous cool and reserved demeanor, leaving the Black Cat momentarily feeling out of place, as if he had mistaken the location.

After a while, seeing that everyone had no intention of stopping, he had to heavily cough twice, interrupting the heated atmosphere.

”How do you plan to pay the reward?” He tilted his head towards Lucifer, eyes sparkling with curiosity: ”Or rather, how will you determine whether everyone has completed your task?”

Not knowing each other’s identity, thus not knowing to what extent the task was completed, naturally makes task settlement a dead end of sorts.

The conference room fell quiet again.

”Before answering this question, there’s one more small matter.” The warlock wearing the bat mask raised a finger: ”Do you know about the magic ring recently used by the Northern District Wizards?”

As he spoke, he conjured up a projection.

The protagonist of the projection was Nicholas, the only enrolled Northern District Wizard at the First University. In the image, he was walking with Liu Fei Fei under the tree-lined road, smiling broadly while talking, his raised hand blocking Liu Fei Fei’s ear, seemingly brushing her hair back.

Lucifer twitched his finger, zooming in on Nicholas’s raised right hand—on the middle finger was a brass ring embedded with an irregular red gemstone, shimmering in the magical image.

”A Subordinate Philosopher’s Stone?” The Black Cat narrowed his eyes, ears twitching like airplane wings.

Mr. Arrogance gave the Black Cat an astonished look.

”No wonder you’re part of ’the authorities’.” his tone carried a hint of amusement: ”My second task lies here... I want the method for making such a Magic Gem.”
