High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2171: Chapter 392: Three-Way Notification

”What?”

”What happened?”

”It’s Mr. Zha.”

”Had a nightmare again? ...Scared me.”

The dormitory lights suddenly turned on, and Xin Fat Man and Xiao Xiao both woke up one after the other, peering out of their tents. Seeing it was Zheng Qing who had fallen to the ground, the Fat Wizard grumbled, picked up his pillow again, turned over, and was snoring within a second. Meanwhile, Xiao Xiao fumbled for his black-framed glasses.

Zheng Qing sat blankly on the ground, cold sweat dripping down the back of his neck.

After a while, he raised his hand and gave himself a hard slap—ouch, that hurt, suggesting this is the real world and not a dream?

This still couldn’t assure him.

You know, previously in the dream, he thought he was awake, and it felt just as real as now! Especially the cold moonlight and chilly night wind, blowing on the black cat, felt as if he was really there!

The biggest difference between a dream and reality is the lack of logic and continuity, yet the Magical World also lacks logic. This conceptual conflict left Zheng Qing’s not fully awake mind in a sluggish contradiction, making it hard to distinguish dream from reality.

”Did you get hit by a nightmare?”

Doctor Xiao’s voice sounded again, as steady as ever: ”If you’re not sure whether you’re awake or not, take a look at the talisman under your pillow... better than foolishly slapping yourself.”

The young cost student squinted his eyes, and without a word, quickly crawled back to his tent, lifted his pillow, and looked at the row of Nightmare Dolls under it—these were bought wholesale from Green Grocery after being cursed frequently following his identity exposure not long ago; he had accumulated a lot and hadn’t finished using them—at the moment, two of those Nightmare Dolls had their smiling faces turned into crying faces.

Zheng Qing let out a long sigh of relief.

At least his head hadn’t fallen off; this level of change indicated that the nightmare troubling him was spontaneous, meaning ’daytime thoughts, night-time dreams’, anxiety and worries caused the nightmare.

”No nightmare demon.”

The young cost student raspily responded to Xiao Xiao: ”It was spontaneous... just a regular nightmare... albeit with a slightly richer context.”

Xiao Xiao had already put on his robe and was fastening his belt.

”Richer context? That’s an interesting term.”

He simply remarked without delving deeper, then explained on his own: ”Speaking of which, tomorrow is the Underworld Festival, when Yin Qi rises between heaven and earth, making it easy for those with heavy thoughts or frail spirits to be attacked by it, leading to nightmares. But it’s not a big deal... after early class, have the Fat Man help make a few bowls of Calming Soup.”

Xin Fat Man’s snoring stopped suddenly.

”You should drink a cup of chamomile tea before bed instead of waiting to make Calming Soup after waking from a nightmare.” The Fat Wizard mumbled in his tent, sounding very reluctant, ”Besides, I remember the cafeteria serves free Calming Soup every morning, no need for us to make any... and today there’s Old Yao’s class in the morning, are you sure you want to have Calming Soup before class?”

Despite mumbling in his sleep-talking tone, he clearly articulated these points.

”Then could you please bring us two cups of chamomile tea when going to the classroom? Thanks.” The Doctor calmly responded, rolling up the Bamboo Slip Law Book spread out on the table and tying it up with a ribbon.

He then turned to look at Zheng Qing’s tent, slightly frowned: ”Are you going to the early class? ...It’s just a nightmare, do you really need that long to recover?”

Zheng Qing didn’t respond.

The Doctor waited for a while and ultimately shook his head, walking towards the door. Just then, the young cost student violently yanked open his tent and jumped out of bed.

”Awake now?” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, glanced at Zheng Qing.

”I don’t know.”

Zheng Qing gritted his teeth: ”But I remembered something I heard before. Every time a person wakes from sleep, it’s like a reboot, similar to rebooting a computer. After a long time of use, computers have a lot of redundant information, they slow down, they crash. And rebooting can help solve some issues... you know what a computer is, right?”

”An alchemical product created by Turing Wizards to aid mortals, said to operate using substitute magic energy, possessing a divination magic-like deducing capability.” Xiao Xiao answered without hesitation.

A very magical answer.

Zheng Qing took the washing supplies handed by the sprites, paused for a few seconds, and finally decided to return to the original topic: ”What I mean is, every reboot is like a challenge between life and death. Those who fearlessly accept the challenge are warriors; those who harbor fear yet still accept the challenge are even braver... what is courage? Courage is the most steadfast belief in one’s heart!”

”At first glance, it sounds like a declaration from Starry Sky Academy, but upon deeper thought, it aligns somewhat with Atlas’s pursuit.”

Xiao Xiao crossed his arms, leaning on the doorway with a puzzled expression: ”The only thing lacking seems to be Jiuyou Academy’s philosophy... And what does that have to do with you attending the early class? Besides, it’s just getting up, why all the life-and-death drama?”

”Is there anything more akin to dying and coming back to life than getting up in the morning?”

The Fat Wizard’s head popped out from his tent, roaring at the two endlessly babbling companions: ”Are you going or not? It’s early in the morning, can’t a person sleep!”

Fatty Cat joined in with a supportive yowl.

...

...

Life always loves to strike down those who think they understand everything.

Just like Zheng Qing.

The self-prompting of courage and belief before the early class dissipated immediately after entering the classroom. Because from Li Meng’s mouth, he learned a piece of bad news.

The first class on Monday is the Curse Course.

As soon as Zheng Qing entered the classroom, he saw Jiang Yu reciting a text with Li Meng. In the morning light, the Witch’s profile emitted a layer of holy light, making the young cost student subconsciously recall the terrible dream, avoiding eye contact somewhat guiltily.

Sadly, Li Meng spotted him instantly.

”Zheng Zha!” The Little Witch’s dejected expression swept away, as she leaped up from her seat with excitement, waving her little arms at Zheng Qing: ”Come here, come here, got something to tell you! It’s important!”

”Li Meng!” Jiang Yu’s warning voice sounded almost simultaneously.

The Little Witch stuck her tongue out, obediently sat back down, but continued to wave her arms at Zheng Qing. Jiang Yu slightly frowned, turned her head to look at Zheng Qing, smiled apologetically, and shook her head slightly.

Indicating that she also had no idea what Li Meng wanted.

”I’ll go over first... you as you like.” Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses, passing by the male student, he reminded in a very low voice, ”This is a public place, be aware... of what I mean.”

Zheng Qing, with a dark face, approached the Little Witch.

”What’s up?” His tone was somewhat stiff.

”Greenhill Mansion’s notification!”

The Little Witch wore an expression of smug pride, glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention, then said with a slight tone of disappointment: ”Su Ya asked me to let you know that she’ll deliver Poseidon to you tonight... I suggest she take it to under the Cat Fruit Tree, where there are fewer people, it’s safe!”
