High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2188: Chapter 409: Magic That Isn’t Sharp Enough

During the recent school hunting competition, the Absolution Hunting Team faced countless ghoul attacks in the hunting ground and held on to the very end, winning the competition—though this victory was somewhat easy.

Earlier, during the Silent Forest tides and on the Black Prison battlefield, the young hunters of Absolution faced endless waves of opponents’ attacks.

They have become experienced old hunters now.

Therefore, the attack of dozens, or at most a few hundred human-faced rats, posed no trouble whatsoever for this well-equipped and enthusiastic young hunting team.

Conversely, the constant snowy weather had a greater negative impact.

Bang!

As if a wine bottle cork was pulled out, the magical barrier above the Absolution Hunting Team shattered under the furious attack of human-faced rats, turning into tiny fragments that dissipated in the air.

Biting cold winds mixed with snowflakes fell head-on.

”Mighty Rabbit Net, placed in the forest!”

Zheng Qing flipped through the law book and cast a classic Net Spell, shouting loudly: ”Wind Spell in the rear! Prioritize Soft Leg Curse and Languid Curse, prepare!”

Spell light flowed, and thick and durable ropes emerged from the void like serpents, weaving a tight and dense trapping net between tall trunks and low shrubs.

Meanwhile, nearly everyone, including Xiao Xiao, raised the law books in their hands:

”Walk Hesitant, heart sways!”

”Walk Hesitant, center drunk!”

”Walk Hesitant, center chokes!”

”I’m a dark horse!”

”I’m a Dark Yellow Horse!”

”A leather with a fierce light!”

”Wolf claws its tail!”

”Caught in a dilemma!”

Dazzling flashes and violent explosions suddenly emerged, mixed between numerous Langurous Curses, Soft Leg Curses, and Chaos Spell, leading the young cost students to burst into curses:

”Damn! Who cast the Shock Curse! Who doesn’t know order!”

The high-frequency sound waves still lingering made his voice sound distorted, and the rapidly fading blinding flash caused a dark illusion, causing Zheng Qing to feel deaf and blind for a moment.

”Ah, hahahaha, just kidding, kidding.”

Xin Fat Man’s annoying voice emerged through the ringing ears, seeming near and far: ”Just some human-faced rats... dealing with them so seriously feels a bit overboard... huuh aah!”

”Unmovable without being shocked, unshaken without being intimidated!”

Jiang Yuqing’s cold spell chant mixed with Xin Fat Man’s screams, a dash of pale green flashed across Zheng Qing’s eyelids, and his ear ringing vanished, his vision cleared up again.

Zhang Ji Xin was clapping as he leisurely returned to the team.

The young cost student had an incomprehensible look, and the red-faced warlock casually explained: ”The Fat Man said he was unsatisfied, so I tossed him out, let him have some fun.”

Zheng Qing’s gaze went past Zhang Ji Xin’s shoulder, looking ahead, only to see Xin Fat Man sprawling in the snow, surrounded by dozens of chaotic-spell hit human-faced rats eyeing him fiercely—if not for the Languid Curse and Soft Leg Curse crippling those beasts, and Zheng Qing’s earlier released Net Spell blocking reinforcements, the Fat Wizard might have been clawed bloody already.

”Hmm... Languid Curse is indeed stronger than Soft Leg Curse’s effect,” Zheng Qing remarked, watching a grimacing human-faced rat stagger by the Fat Man’s side, nodding thoughtfully.

”Environmental factors count as well.”

Dylan drifted to the Absolution Hunting Team Leader’s side like a wisp of smoke, gazing: ”In the forest or the open space here, Languid Curse naturally works better... but in close encounters or in a secret chamber, Soft Leg Curse should be more effective.”

”These human-faced rats are trickier than the ghouls.”

The Absolution Hunting Team’s diviner reminded behind everyone: ”Do not underestimate them! Rodents, especially human-faced rats leaning towards spirits and roaming in the Silent Forest’s magic-rich evil environment are famously tough... defeating them is easy, but completely killing them is somewhat difficult... to describe it in not quite appropriate terms, second-year wizards’ magic is not ’sharp’ enough.”

”Sharp? Sounds unlike a term for magic.” Zheng Qing muttered, casually casting another ’Mighty Rabbit Net,’ making the trapping net around the hunting team denser.

The swarming human-faced rat horde plunged into a giant web, struggling to move.

Not far, the Fat Man had already climbed from the snow, loudly smashing the awakened rats flying one by one, hearing human-faced rats squeal, getting thrashed into the snow, but soon those small creatures, after a roll, fierce and lively, leaped again.

Zheng Qing instantly understood better the ’easy to defeat but difficult to kill’ described by Xiao Xiao.

”You can imagine these little creatures as greasy copper peas,”

The Absolution Hunting Team’s diviner sat calmly in the center of the Array, enjoying the teammates’ protection, happily sharing his stored knowledge, while giving a very fitting analogy: ”...steamed unbroken, boiled uncooked, hammered unflattened, fried unexploded, smashed unbroken, only when magic is ’sharp’ enough can you slice these peas... or if our magic is powerful enough, we can smash these peas.”

He glanced meaningfully at the team leader.

”Too wasteful, too wasteful.” Zheng Qing did not have to turn around to guess Xiao Xiao’s intentions, shaking his head repeatedly: ”Not worth using on these small creatures...”

He touched the charm gun on his waist, ultimately reluctant to use the powerful Fu Bullet.

”Should ’Wind Spell’ be released then? Binding Spell!”

Dylan joined the topic, casually casting a Binding Spell, hanging the most active human-faced rat upside down under a nearby branch, asking: ”I feel releasing ’Wind Spell’ now would be wasteful too.”

”Your feeling is correct.”

Zheng Qing shook his head, promptly changing tactics: ”Swordsman, you and the Gentleman go out and finish them... also, just keep an eye on the Fat Man, don’t let him truly get hurt.”

”Understood!”

Mister Blood Werewolf vanished before Zheng Qing, disappearing with a flick.

Not far, Blue Bird also nodded slightly, a cold light rose from his arms, like a dragon, charged into the dense forest, circling thrice around trees, limbs of human-faced rats fell one after another, red dots on the snow were like blooming plum flowers.
