High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2160: Chapter 381: Report

”Professor Montreya? Is that the one calling for the development of demon flesh transplant experiments?”

”You know him too?”

”Of course.”

The puppet raised its arm, giving a slight turn to the brim of its tall hat, and answered pleasantly yet reservedly: ”After all, I once represented you in dealing with the Alliance quite a few times... They are very concerned about the dangerous wizards in the school, and even compiled a roster, which includes this Professor Montreya... But I remember the school already shut down his laboratory, didn’t it?”

”Shutting down a laboratory is easy, but it’s hard to seal off a wizard’s deep desire to explore.”

Elder Ruoyu sighed softly: ”If you stand high enough, see enough, then you can easily understand some of their choices.”

The puppet’s round eyes rolled.

”I heard that the Assistant Team recently dismantled an illegal laboratory in Silent Forest?” It cautiously asked: ”It’s said to be conducting demon flesh transplant experiments.”

A withered hand reached out from the robe, and the old wizard sitting behind the desk raised his hand to press on the silver wolf head staff leaned against the chair. The puppet instinctively shrank its neck back, but fortunately, the old man didn’t use the staff to knock it, merely caressing the silver-white wolf head.

”I heard, supposedly.” Ruoyu twisted his lips into a self-deprecating smile: ”Only by adding these words does it show the school is still fairly well-informed...”

Dong Dong!

Suddenly, there were two light knocks on the door.

The office owner calmly looked towards the door, while the puppet on the desk crouched obediently behind the pen rack hill, hiding thoroughly, and to avoid its tall hat from being discovered, it even took off its head and held it in its arms.

”Come in.”

Elder Ruoyu ordered in a deep voice.

As soon as he finished speaking, the flames of Ancient Gublai Fairy Fire on both sides of the office door slightly flickered, casting two clear beams of light, making the darkness inside ripple like tides.

As if Moses crossing the Red Sea, under the illumination of Ancient Gublai Fairy Fire, the darkness rolled aside, revealing a slender path lit by faint light, extending from the door to the steps below.

A slightly petite figure hurriedly stepped along that slender path to the bottom of the steps, removed her hood, revealing a pale young witch’s face.

”Report to the principal, the Assistant Team monitored a brief interaction between two ’focus’ level wizards, lasting from 7:34 PM to 7:52 PM on November 27th, with no abnormality observed.”

After quickly reporting the main content, the witch realized she had missed the most important part, and a blush rose on her cheeks as she stammered to add: ”The... meeting was between Professor Montreya and Doctor Duzem... Captain Zhang Yu thinks this matter needs to be reported to you.”

Perhaps due to nerves, after finishing her report, she realized the old man behind the desk hadn’t yet given her permission to report, causing the blush on her face to fade rapidly, becoming even paler than before.

In the rolling darkness on both sides of the light path, many vague figures seemed to not have good intentions as they glanced at her, gathering towards her position. Whether it was an illusion or not, the witch constantly felt she heard lots of whispering, but when she focused her attention, she could hear nothing.

”They merely like to joke with the young, without any ill intent.” The old man’s voice was gentle, as he lightly tapped the staff in his hand.

The tip of the staff struck the carpet, emitting a clear sound.

Accompanied by the crisp sound, the magical torches on the office walls lit up one by one, swiftly illuminating the giant, palatial-like office.

The black ’tide’ receded, revealing translucent ’reefs’ beneath the water, yet were vivid stone statues. Many of them were magical creatures familiar to wizards, such as vampires, werewolves, horse-men, minotaurs, fishmen, fox men, zombies, etc., as well as others unrecognizable by the witch, like those with three heads, five legs, or gathered like a mist.

The witch never knew a mist could be sculpted so vividly in stone.

At present, these statues sat orderly on both sides, as if they truly were ordinary stone sculptures. Only the sphinxes on both sides of the steps tilted their heads, their eyes rolling around, staring curiously at the witch whose face had regained some color.

”Sorry,” the elder behind the desk spoke with a smile: ”Getting old, I so often prefer staying in dim places quietly reminiscing... Actually, most times, my office is quite bright.”

The witch hastily raised her hand, making a small movement in front of her chest, wanting to say ’not dark, not dark’, feeling somewhat insincere; but if replaced with ’it’s okay’, it seemed somewhat boastful, still not quite right.

Before she could decide how to speak, Elder Ruoyu spoke again: ”Tell Zhang Yu when you return; he handled this matter well. Hmm, no need to use extra investigative resources for now. For similar situations in the future, you may also report to Dean Yao of Jiuyou Academy. That will be all... Oh, by the way, I am still the Vice Principal... A qualified wizard should always maintain sufficient rigor.”

The witch, with her face white, barely managed to bow before leaving the office on faltering steps.

The magical torches on the walls extinguished one after another, and the black tide once again swept through the gigantic space, with only the two pieces of Ancient Gublai Fairy Fire near the distant door still burning gently in the darkness, like two glowing eyes.

”You scared that kid.”

This was the puppet’s first words after reattaching its head to its neck.

”Did I?” Elder Ruoyu raised his eyebrows in surprise, then showed a bit of thought: ”What I just said... was all measured, even the final suggestion was quite neutral... not criticism, right?”

”Living long has this downside, it’s easy to lose sensitivity towards the world. In this regard, you are not even as good as us wooden ones.” The puppet shook its head, pretentiously lamented then changed the topic: ”Like that report just now, it’s evident that since Vice Principal Shi Hui left the school, the Assistant Team is more inclined towards you, rather than the newly appointed Lady Emma... which is beneficial for the school’s stability.”

Elder Ruoyu caressed the wolf head cane in his hand, neither confirming nor denying.

A moment later, the elder spoke again, bringing up another name from that report: ”How much do you know about that Doctor Duzem?”
