High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2194: Chapter 415: Chaos Is a Ladder

During the Battle of the Black Prison, Violet Jessop was once corrupted by the Great Demon Shallow Jin Ryoko.

Although Shallow Jin Ryoko left Violet’s body after a post-battle agreement between the school and the demoness, it was obvious that the purple-haired witch’s personality and behavior had been distorted to some extent—such as becoming more passionate compared to her previous indifference, or perhaps ’alluring’ is more appropriate; or, for example, while she used to be diligent and cautious, now she seemed rather lackadaisical and careless.

Initially, this matter quietly circulated only within the Assistant Team, but at some point, Linda Barnes found out, sparking her intense interest. For wizards, any news involving demons had immense news value, let alone news involving a Great Demon.

Therefore, at the start of their junior year, Linda, who had just been promoted to deputy editor of the campus newspaper, sent Violet a warm invitation in an attempt to interview her exclusively.

Then she was decisively refused.

Violet was extremely reluctant to recall the incident on the Black Prison Battlefield, but the new deputy editor of the campus newspaper persistently pursued her, remaining impervious to rejection, sweetly calling her ’sister,’ and constantly circling around her, causing the purple-haired witch great distress.

It wasn’t until a few days ago, with the end of the campus hunting competition, and after Su Shi Jun revealed the true identity of the child’s father, that the entire wizarding world’s attention was drawn to an obscure young warlock, and most of the campus newspaper staff were too busy to bother her, giving Violet some breathing space.

Yet now, at the Winter Hunting Grounds, she encountered this persistent nuisance again.

”Exchange!”

The ’nuisance’ raised her hand, snapped her fingers, and summoned a transparent bubble to encase herself and the purple-haired witch, succinctly stating: ”I recently acquired an exclusive secret intelligence about Councilman Su. Trade it for your exclusive interview!”

”Councilman Su Shi Jun?” The purple-haired witch’s eyes slightly brightened, with a peach blossom just ignited under her feet suddenly extinguishing, cautiously expressing interest.

”Does the First University have a second Councilman Su?” The blonde witch smiled confidently: ”I must remind you, this information is known to only a few people...”

”Don’t tell me it’s about the Christmas Moonlight Ball, I also have tickets for that ball.” Violet warily eyed the journalist in front of her.

”The Moonlight Ball happens every year, even if Councilman Su participates this year, it wouldn’t be much of a secret.” The deputy editor of the campus newspaper quickly scanned around, lowering her voice even more: ”The intelligence comes from a very reliable informant. There is evidence suggesting that the father of Councilman Su’s child has most likely been unfaithful...”

The father of Councilman Su’s child.

Unfaithful.

Violet mulled over these two words in her head four or five times before she snapped back to reality, her eyes suddenly widening: ”That Zheng Qing from Jiuyou Academy? He’s been...”

Linda Barnes, with quick hands, somehow produced a puff pastry and stuffed it into the purple-haired witch’s mouth, blocking the final words she intended to say.

The purple-haired witch ferociously chewed on the puff pastry.

As if she were chewing on the flesh of a certain warlock.

”Deal!”

She grabbed the parchment contract the deputy editor had prepared, scribbling her name across it, biting her teeth as she spoke: ”Honestly... merely burning a few effigies is too lenient for him!”

Linda nodded energetically, joining in the rebuke: ”Men, not a single one is a good thing!”

”Ahem!”

Outside the bubble came Victor’s loud coughing, causing both witches to turn in unison. They saw a burly warlock helplessly spreading his hands: ”I say, ladies, we are still on a mission...”

...

...

”... That’s the general plan, does anyone have any questions?”

The depths of the Silent Forest.

Further from the outskirts of the First University’s Winter Hunting Grounds, beyond a wind-shielding hill, more than a dozen towering two-headed ogres sat in a circle, each holding heavy weapons like wolf tooth sticks, iron maces, and steel whips.

These ogres didn’t dress in heavy cloaks or warming talismans like the young wizards participating in the winter hunt; most wore only simple leather armor, their muscular arms exposed to the howling wind and snow, appearing as hard and gray as rock.

Speaking was a short, stocky hoop-headed ogre, leaning on a pitch-black magic wand. New growths on its chin blurred the features of additional faces, number seven in total, making it a very powerful presence even among the two-headed ogres.

”Any more questions?”

The hoop-headed ogre repeated its question, glancing at each ’companion,’ their eyes flickering with intelligence uncharacteristic of the ogre race.

No one spoke.

All the ogres maintained cautious silence.

”Since there are no questions, proceed according to plan... head to your designated positions.” The hoop-headed ogre lowered its eyelids, paused, and added:

”A final reminder, I know many of you have impressive backgrounds. Dark Assembly, Withered Yellow Land, Abyssal Seabed, Moonlit Ancient Castle, and perhaps some of you are even from the campus of this university right before us...”

There was a subtle unrest among the ogres, many began discreetly eyeing their ’companions’ from side to side, trying to guess which thoughts under the Tutan Body came from the First University.

The hoop-headed ogre remained calm, its tone unchanged: ”...Many adhere to the philosophy that ’chaos is a ladder,’ believing chaotic situations make anything possible, including betrayal, vendetta, or infighting, and so on. Normally, I wouldn’t concern myself with these details. After all, those who become ’wandering hunters’ rarely regard the Wizard’s Code as their code of conduct.”

”But this time is different.”

”Even though we use these Tutan Bodies refined by the Great Divinor, and further enhanced by magic, this is still Buji Island. Standing here, without looking up, we can feel the enormous magic power swirling above the university... I believe no one wants to feel the wrath of the school... so, put away your little schemes. Do not touch what’s not to be touched, do not take what’s not to be taken, do not provoke what’s not to be provoked.”

”As long as you stick to the plan, at the correct time, drive those few wild dragons to appear at the correct location, and draw away the outer patrols, your respective tasks will be complete. Do not wreck everything for a moment of greed.”

With that, it forcefully tapped its magic wand.

Flawless snowflakes whirled upwards, quickly forming a short, stocky tornado, engulfing the hoop-headed ogre’s silhouette. Moments later, the tornado dissipated, the snowflakes fell, revealing not a trace of a figure behind the windbreak hill.
