High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2162: Chapter 383: The Fat Wizard’s Plea for Help

After leaving the deep alley where Doctor Du Zemu resided, Zheng Qing didn’t find an opportunity to take a moonlit stroll with Jiang Yuyue.

On one hand, there were prying eyes everywhere, like annoying mosquitoes in a summer night, buzzing and whining, making it impossible to find peace; on the other hand, he had another ’appointment’ tonight.

”Later tonight, I might have a chance to visit the Cat Fruit Tree.” As they were about to part, the young cost student whispered hopefully.

The witch seemed oblivious, giving no response whatsoever.

Watching her retreating back, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed, wondering if his voice had been too soft just now or if what he said wasn’t clear enough.

Carrying this sense of uncertainty, he hurried back to the dormitory.

It was already past eight in the evening, Dylan’s coffin had just emptied, as Mr. Blood Werewolf still needed to attend classes tonight; Xiao Xiao hadn’t returned from the library yet, and besides the snoring Fat Cat and the little sprites hanging on the curtain, there was an unexpected figure in the dorm room.

Xin Fat Man.

”You didn’t go to the editorial department today?” The young cost student was full of surprise.

Upon hearing Zheng Qing’s voice suddenly, the Fat Wizard seemed startled and shivered, but when he turned his head to look at the door, his face was full of smiles as he greeted loudly, ”Evening, good evening... just got back? Want some supper?”

As he spoke, he pushed the plate of preserved fruits toward Zheng Qing. Noticing the young cost student’s bewildered look, he mistakenly assumed Zheng Qing didn’t like eating preserved fruits at night: ”... Right, eating preserved fruits at night can make you fat... How about some dried fruits? Salted roasted Arhat Beans, stir-fried sunflower seeds, all good for passing the time!”

Zheng Qing suspiciously patted the grey cloth bag at his waist, using a lot of effort to suppress the urge to pull out the charm gun because the corner of his eye noticed that the copper mirror hanging under the ceiling by the door wasn’t reacting abnormally.

This meant the Fat Man wasn’t possessed.

But an unpossessed Fat Man would never share his delicious treats for no reason - whether it’s preserved fruits or dried fruits - as that’s neither scientific nor magical.

”What kind of supper at past eight?”

The young cost student hesitated, shuffled forward a couple of steps, looked at the fake smile on the Fat Wizard’s face, and couldn’t help it: ”If there’s something, just say it, don’t scare people here, I still have to go out later... If nothing, then forget it.”

Xin Fat Man immediately retracted his smile.

”I heard this sentence at the editorial department, and I think it’s quite reasonable.” He cleared his throat, speaking in a low voice: ”Even if a famous person takes a dump, someone will clap and cheer... I need you to do a little dump for me now.”

Zheng Qing was astonished by this strange proposal, standing frozen.

For a long while.

He tentatively glanced toward the bathroom and quietly asked, ”Is there a specific shape you require? I ate some enoki mushrooms for lunch... the ’texture’ might not be that pure.”

Saying this, he rubbed his belly and added: ”... Also, I don’t really feel the urge right now, could it wait a bit? Maybe take a stroll first?”

Xin Fat Man gave him a speechless glare.

”Not actual, you know!”

He rolled his eyes, trying hard to maintain a polite fake smile, though the crushed Arhat Bean in his hand indicated certain issues: ”What I mean is... among all the people I’ve met, your ’jerk value’ is the highest, so I thought since you’re so good at it, you should know about these things.”

Zheng Qing jumped up on the spot like a cat with its fur bristled.

”What do you mean by high jerk value? Are you inventing some weird term again?” The young cost student shouted loudly, waking the previously content snoring Fat Cat.

Tuan Tuan shook its ears in annoyance, lifted its eyelids and bared its teeth at the two boys in complaint. The little sprites, in a flurry, brought out hot towels, tea, and fruit platters—this seemed to have become a standard response for them, whenever the dorm got noisy, they would use this way to calm everyone’s mood.

Most of the time, it worked well.

Like now.

Zheng Qing annoyedly took the steaming towel, wiped his face, then drank two sips of apple juice. The freshness on his face and the sweetness in his mouth quickly smoothed over the anger rising in his heart.

”Jerk value is the value of being a jerk.” The Fat Wizard explained considerately, then transitioned: ”Of course, that’s not the point, what I’m saying is, you should be quite skillful at giving gifts to girls, right? After all, you have so many... right?”

Zheng Qing’s heart skipped a beat, feeling inexplicably guilty.

Honestly speaking, although he’s given quite a few gifts, he never felt that any of them were particularly outstanding—like the Bohemian dress for Elena, the gemstone for Jiang Yu, the greeting card for Su Shijun—at most, they could be considered ’decent’.

Conversely, the gifts he received from others were excellent.

Like the two charm guns, a gift from Jiang Yu and Su Shijun after Zheng Qing won the Absolution freshman competition last year, which even now are his most important weapons.

And the cat fruits from the Cat Fruit Tree often presented to him by the fluffy balls up there. Some of them contained gemstones or lost magic books. When he remembered giving those as gifts to others, the young cost student couldn’t help feeling more guilty.

The Fat Wizard didn’t notice his roommate’s slight discomfort.

He rambled on by himself: ”It’s just that you guys mentioned this morning... giving laurel isn’t good, what does that mean? If not laurel, then what should be given?”

So that’s what it is!

Hearing he didn’t have to analyze his gifted presents, Zheng Qing felt a bit more emboldened. Then he recalled the Fat Man mentioning in the morning that Senior Linda from the campus newspaper recently took on her pre-graduation practice task and needed to guard the Silent Forest. At that time, the Fat Man was preparing a magically blessed laurel branch as a gift.

But because he had to give a return gift for the sprites’ Thanksgiving offerings, the Fat Wizard had to pluck many leaves from that laurel, which worsened its appearance somewhat.

”Giving a gift should show your sincerity and express your intentions.” Freed of concerns, the young cost student immediately began to spout off: ”If you just see Senior Linda as a respectful mentor, giving a stack of standard talismans can’t go wrong; but if you intend to go further, a bottle of ’Luck Elixir’ that brings good fortune is much better than a pointless laurel branch.”

”Luck Elixir, huh!” The Fat Wizard groaned softly, face full of distress: ”That advanced magic potion is too expensive... Will she accept it?”

Zheng Qing’s mind stirred, and he added: ”If you think the Luck Elixir is too expensive, you could give her that talisman Old Yao gave you, which is precious yet not expensive, and suits her needs perfectly.”
