Chapter 1990: Chapter 211: Sevenfold Self-Reflection

”Leviathan is a Witch?” The Black Cat’s voice showed a bit of surprise.

”I never said all the Seven Sins are warlocks.” The Sin Bearer was somewhat displeased, seemingly quite unhappy with the Black Cat’s misunderstanding: ”If you meet her with such prejudice, be careful of getting hit... ’Jealousy’ Miss’s temper isn’t always gentle, even if you are a cat.”

”No, no, that’s not what I meant.”

The Black Cat flicked its tail tip, expressing apology, but there wasn’t a hint of remorse in the voice: ”What I mean is, I remember you said before that everyone in the Seven Sins doesn’t know the identities of other members...”

”Although the specific identities are unknown, you can still differentiate between male and female, right?” The Sin Bearer sighed heavily and gave an analogy: ”Just like I can tell you’re a cat, not a wizard.”

”Then how do you know if she’s ’cute’ or ’not cute’?”

”For a witch whose appearance you don’t know, what better word than ’cute’? The masked warlock responded and self-summarized: ”Similar to using ’handsome’ to describe a warlock, ’kindly’ for an elder wizard, ’cute’ for a witch won’t be wrong.”

”I doubt that.”

The Black Cat murmured, eventually didn’t continue to argue on this topic with the masked man, but looked up at the sky’s round bright moon, tugging its ear uncomfortably: ”When is Leviathan arriving? I have other things to do, can’t waste too much time with you guys!”

”What could a cat have going on.” The Wizard mumbled quietly: ”Could it be dating?”

”Bingo!”

The Black Cat sneered: ”Going on a date, so no time to waste with you... Cats are very busy, at least not like some single dogs running around during Mid-Autumn Festival, annoying others on their dates.”

These words were like a small knife, viciously stabbing at the heart of the Sin Bearer.

”I have witches chasing me too!” The masked wizard shouted, pulling his voice: ”I’m not single!”

The Black Cat silently eyed him: ”...I didn’t say it was you.”

The little knife stabbed in, pulled out, stabbed again, pulled out again.

The Wizard looked up at the round moon in the night sky, silent for a long time. Zheng Qing maliciously guessed that if not for the mask, he might have seen a face streaming with tears and snot.

After a moment of silence.

The Sin Bearer suddenly lowered his head and looked at the Black Cat: ”Did you bring the mask?”

He referred to the small white mask Zheng Qing wore during the last test.

The Black Cat rolled its eyes hard—very difficult for a cat—and used all its strength to avoid snorting: ”I even forgot today’s test, how could I remember to bring that thing!”

”As expected.” The Sin Bearer shrugged, pulled out a pure white mask without features from his sleeve, tossed it to the Black Cat, and the mask spun in the air like a white butterfly, landing precisely on the Black Cat’s face.

The Black Cat suddenly felt much more perceptive.

It perked its ears, carefully capturing the subtle movements around it, but found nothing amiss, greatly surprised: ”Why give me a mask... I thought Miss ’Jealousy’ has arrived.”

”Whether she comes or not, you’ll eventually need to wear a mask.” Saying this, the Sin Bearer stood up amongst the branches, leapt, his wide sleeves flapping in the night like a giant bat, landing in front of the Black Cat.

”Follow me.” He turned and walked into the depths of the forest.

The Black Cat hesitated for a few seconds, calculated the time in its mind, and jumped off its throne.

”Don’t follow me.” It used a commanding tone to stop the restless fruits on the Cat Fruit Tree, simultaneously signaling with its eyes for the one dog on the tree to quietly follow.

Furry Bean wagged its tail happily and vanished into the gap between the branches in a blink.

”Going where?” The Black Cat silently trailed beside the Sin Bearer, steps light, voice brisk: ”Not waiting for Miss ’Jealousy’ anymore?”

”Just strolling around.” The masked wizard walked unhurriedly, hands concealed in sleeves, murmuring: ”Such a refreshing night, it’d be a waste to just wait under the tree.”

The Black Cat glanced at the wizard suspiciously, always feeling he wasn’t being truthful.

But it also preferred to be a bit further from the Cat Fruit Tree, reducing any risk if the Little White Cat arrived early. Thinking of the Little White Cat, the Black Cat couldn’t help but think of the interrupted date tonight, its originally light steps suddenly weighed down a bit.

”The osmanthus is blooming well tonight.”

Passing by an osmanthus tree, the masked wizard suddenly sighed lightly: ”People use flowers and moonlight to praise love, as if smelling that rich fragrance can alleviate pain... But that scent can instead double the pain. Do you think being a cat is an exception?”

These cloud-like and misty words left the Black Cat somewhat confused.

”I’m just a cat, can’t understand what you’re saying.” It interrupted the wizard’s sentiments impatiently.

The wizard seemed oblivious, continued to mutter like a diviner trapped in delirium: ”...if lucky, your love will be like a real cat, beginning with a call, ending in disappearance... irresponsibility is a cat’s habit... and in this process love ends before starting.”

”Ultimately, what do you want to say?” The Black Cat halted its steps, looking at the wizard with unfriendly eyes.

The wizard lifted his hand, adjusted the mask on his face, speaking calmly: ”For instance, I have a responsibility to remind you, after becoming a Sin Bearer, you need to be particularly wary of the sins love might involve.”

”For instance?”

”Like jealousy; jealousy can make love turn from sweet to bitter.”

”No, no, no, I mean, whether I love or not, the Seven Sins care too?” The Black Cat’s tone turned somewhat unfriendly: ”That’s too controlling... If I commit pride, jealousy, gluttony, all these faults, what will the Seven Sins do? Expel me from the group? Curse me with black magic? Or fine me heavily... Hmm, fines are indeed intimidating... But how do you plan to ask a cat for money? You don’t even know where I live!”

Though wearing a mask, the Black Cat distinctly felt that the wizard smiled.

”No fines, nor curses.” The Sin Bearer rejected the Black Cat’s guesses: ”Of course, this has little to do with where you live... Rather, because the Seven Sins don’t completely rely on contracts and interests to bind members... The reason for reminding you lies in ’self-discipline and soul purification,’ self-reflection is a soul-purifying process each day, a chance for pure thoughts and soul... Each introspection strengthens our foundation... It’s beneficial for your future magic path.”
